It's all about the term. He had some injury troubles in the past, wouldn't be a stretch to say it might be a problem again in his mid-30's.
If he was willing to take bigger money on shorter-term ($11M x 2 years?), then hell yeah I'd sign him.

So we got the SHL MVP, the Allsvenskan MVP, the NCAA MVP, and the guy who may have won the Calder if he hadn't got hurt.
...Just need some defense!!!

Obviously, if a bad team could only have Duchesne on their roster, it would make them competitive.
...Oh...wait...

One Meeeeellion Dollarrrrs!

Since the trade:
Hodgson - 8GP, 0G, 0A, -2, 7 hits
Kassian - 6GP, 1G, 1A, -1, 19 hits
ZOMG!!! We won the trade!!!
Seriously though, most of the detractors of the trade said that this hurt us NOW, because Hodgson was already developed into a key contributor, while Kassian was still pretty green. The truth is, though, neither are developed to the point where they can be relied upon in the playoffs as key contributors.
This also adds proof to the argument that Cody didn't score points with us IN SPITE of his spot on the 3rd line, but rather, may have been successful BECAUSE OF his limited minutes, and his quality of competition. AV has consistently showed the ability to get the most out of his players (with few exceptions), and Cody's production may be a shining example of that.

"If you're going to finish second you might as well finish last."
That's stupid. It was a good run, provided much entertainment, and made the team a lot of money. Sure, not winning the last game sucked, but to say that Edmonton in effect accomplished more is lunacy.

Ryan Callahan over Marian Gaborik?
Erik Karlsson over Sergei Gonchar?
Claude Giroux over Mike Richards and/or Jeff Carter?
Only 1 representative each from the Flyers, Canadiens, and Kings - who are #2-4 in the league?
Neuvirth? Are you kidding now? What has he proven, other than he's as good as Jose Theodore?
Iginla is still a big star. So is Pronger, Thornton, etc. People like to see those guys. The all-star game is not about the absolute best this minute, flavours of the month, or who will be a star by next year. It's all about NAMES.

If a D goes to a franchese team in year one, then what would get an F? How about an E?
Florida was 27th in the league in offence last year. In the offseason they traded their top offensive forward (Horton), and didn't add anybody to replace him. Stillman and Reinprecht were already showing severe decline, and are now are a year older. I would say they are likely the worst in the league. And yet...they get a B-?
Outside of Streit, Islanders don't have anyone who would crack a good team's top-4 - Wiz included. And their bottom 3 are even worse.

If he comes back to NA, my money would be on Filatov.
IfWhen the Flames crash and burn, they will likely be giving Backlund all the prime icetime he can handle. If Iggy is his wingman, that should equal a lot of points.

So nobody in the Eastern conference has anything less than a C+ in ANYTHING???
Why wouldn't the Islanders get a D for defence? Why are Florida's pack of rag-tag forwards in the B's for offence? The Habs currently have Alex Auld in net, and the rights to a basketcase who doesn't even want to play there, and you give them a B for goaltending?
Somebody needs to learn the concept of grading on a curve...

Whoa...glad there's no more games on Sportsnet!
As for the point about the back-to-back cups for Art Ross winners, how does that work against Henrik?
-
Wow, picking the overwhelming favourites...way to go out on a limb!
I would not be surprised if anyone but Washington lost the 1st round, but the most likely upset I see is Ottawa overcoming the cup champs. Of course, that will depend on goaltending, but the Senators have had better stretches of it than the Pens have. In the West, call me crazy, but I see the Blackhawks primed for an upset.

#14 - Peter Mueller? He was traded for Wolski.

Not a bad article, but research a little more. Toronto CAN'T throw money at Kesler as an RFA, unless they re-acquire their 2011 1st rounder from Boston. And last I heard, Ryan is seeking over 5.
I expect this to end with a 5-year deal worth about 4.75 per.

The guy I think Gillis should target is Eric Belanger of the Wild. Impending UFA, who contributes offesively and is a top-10 faceoff guy. A package deal with him and Zidlicky would fill our most glaring needs (depth at center, and another R-handed offensive defenseman).
-
I've heard a few quotes from Kesler's agent, both in print and on the radio. All signs point to him being a huge di*k.
November 23: is Sergei Bobrovsky the answer to the Canucks’ goaltending woes?

Probably not...but it very much depends on what others are offering.
