  1. This is a tough spot for this franchise. You have two aging stars in the Sedin's who are no longer able to drag this team along with them anymore. They aren't able to play against the physical teams and their age appears to be catching up with them. How do you let them walk, yet you can't have them as your first line players and achieve playoff success. They really should be complimentary players (second line) at this stage of their careers like they were when they first broke into the league. This should be Keslers team, however, he needs two top line wingers (preferably with some size and attitude)to help him take over. Gillis should have done something about this over the last season and a half. He didn't. We currently have a second line, two third lines (none properly constructed to play third line) and a fourth line. A shutdown defenceman with some size is also a glaring issue and has been for some time. I also don't like the fragile mental state of this current roster. They don't appear to believe they can win anymore. It shows in all the early goals and late goals given up that would have never happened before. I would have tried to trade the Sedin's this year. I know, to who and for what. I don't have the exact answer. But I wouldn't have been against a true reset that may have taken a couple of years. I am tired of the same old movie and I don't beleive this group as it stands will get it done anytime soon. I don't think they believe it anymore either. The problem is that these are not usually quick fixes and they should have been addressed individually. They haven't. Reset........
  2. I can't agree that they are rigged, but I definitely think that they are managed. The officiating is predictable because it is so inconsistent. By that I mean when they are managing a game or series it becomes pretty evident based on calls, non-calls and the timing of either. The league wants and somewhat needs parity. Equal opportunity for success in each market place would be ideal. It makes for a better product which is easier to market making it more profitable. It all comes back to money and market share. The NHL is a business run by business people. So conspiracy? I don't think so. Managed? Most definitely in my opinion.
  3. How were Vancouver fans treated by fans in Boston and continue to be treated? How were the Vancouver media and the citizens of Vancouver portrayed during the Stanley Cup final and it continues to this day? How were the players for the Canucks vilified and treated during the Stanley Cup run by the media outside of Vancouver? These rival teams just finished an emotional game hours before you go out and party. Now add alcohol. These aren't excuses, just tips that may have helped Lucic understand you don't go out and get drunk in said city until the wee hours of the morning no matter where you "were" from. He should be safe in public, but based on the above circumstances he isn't the brightest bulb in the box.
  4. I can get on board with this. Hansen just doesn't seem to fit into this current player mix. Not that I don't think he belongs in the league. Sometimes the fit isn't right on a certain team based on needs.
  5. I don't really like saying it because he seems like such a nice guy and it's an awesome story, but I kind of agree with not re-signing him unless it's relatively inexpensive and I would prefer a two way deal. (I know it isn't realistic) He has been an excellent signing, a huge bonus from what was expected and it's a great story. But he isn't a top six forward on a serious playoff contendng team unless he is surrounded with some size which we don't have. I don't like him in the mix for the bottom six come next year with our prospects and the legit need for a solid third line center that can eat up minutes and play a strong defensive game (Horvat). Maybe we trade him to a team that will give him a legit longer term deal now that he has proven himself. This way he gets an opportunity and we get rewarded for giving him an opportunity. If not I think we try and retain him but I wouldn't spend alot.
  6. The Canucks are no longer an elite team. They are on the downward trend, hopefully, headed back up when some of the youth pans out (or not) and they address some obvious issues. Legit shutdown defenceman, top six forward, added size on the third and fourth lines (that are capable of chipping in on the scoresheet) The elite teams have these intangibles, the Canucks don't. I will continue to support the team, but my expectations with this group have been tempered. It's not their fault, the effort is there. The lineup on the ice is not what I would consider capable of success in the playoffs.
  7. I think the Booth for Erat deal is worth a try. If Erat doesn't work out then he gets bought out instead of Booth. Erat may not score at the same pace, but he can at least pass the puck, something Booth is unable to do. Erat on Keslers left wing would look better than Booth. I would prefer neither , but unless the Canucks waive Booth and he gets taken (highly unlikley) we are stuck with his cap hit. I would prefer to try Erat over Booth.
