  1. he's a RD he's cheap and relatively young. if he have value there'll be more teams in on him than basically just vancouver. if he have no value then with only a 1 year deal as a rfa he's not all of a sudden going to have value being a pending ufa at the tdl
  2. lol no one is going got give u a 2nd.. if he's worth a 2nd carolina wouldn't give him away literally for free as an rfa he's no better than schenn for what he brings
  3. ya don't see a reason for him to sign anything for 1-2mil prior to seeing what other teams would offer in the ufa. rfa means nothing because it's highly unlikely the canucks will qualify him at 2.2 and if they do bear already wins as if they can't agree on any 2-3 years sub 2mil deal he already have the 2.2mil this season to fall back on to bet on himself.. and unless he falls off the face of the earth.. he will get a similar contract next season.. or if he does well an get a bigger contract.
  4. i don't think bear will re-sign with vancouver for anything less than the qualifying offer 2.2mil.. i mean why would he sign for anything less?? if the canucks don't qualify him i'm sure there'll be plenty of teams that'll offer whatever the canucks are offering undering the qualifying offer.. and if he plays great.. they can flip him at the TDL for free asset even if it's a 3rd 4th or 5th round pick.
  5. so what about his 75 points in 56 game season? plus being a year younger and 10x better than miller defensively? if they both enter ufa? zib will get more than miller pretty much every single time?
  6. i don't know why anyone thinks any of our player left money on the table.. Hughes is exceeding his contract.. but that doesn't mean he left money on the table when he signed it. he was coming off a horrendous season defensively with people questioning whether or not he can play defence or more of a tyson barrie all offence no defence.. it was a gamble and based on his last season prior to the contract.. he maximized on it.. imagine if he's a consistent 60-70 point guy but a -25 every season.. would you say he'd be worth almost 8mil? Miller also didn't leave any money contrary to what people believed. he wouldn't even have hit the open market till this year.. and based on his play?? he's prolly worth 8mil on the open market.. i'm sure he knows he's not a 99 point guy and his assist rate in the 99 point season was an anomly along with the players he played with. also he's going to be 30 when he hits the open market if he never signed.. demko didn't leave any money on his contract.. he was paid basically on potential and his body of work up to that point didn't warrant 5mil cap hit most players don't really "leave money on the table" unless they are in a low tax state where they'll make more than other teams even if they signed them for 1-1.5mil more.. it's only whether or not the players decides to gamble on themselves or not.
  7. for sure EP easily is worth around 10.5+ now.. i rather get it done this summer before he works himself into the selke next season and all of a sudden it jumps to 12.5
  8. i actually think this is really important this gets sorted out in the summer and not linger into the season. while he does have 1 year of rfa left after his contract is over.. there's the risk we have to qualify him if we can't get a contract done and he takes the 1 year qualifying. the flames literally had to file for arbitration against tkachuk to prevent him from being offer sheet and him taking the 1 year qualifying offer. If EP doesn't get a deal done and this drags on into the season.. EP's gonna be asked about it everyday during the season by the media.. he may say he will not discuss contract till end of season.. and depending on if the canucks make playoff or not.. it might just limit them to 2 months to negotiate. also if EP gets injured or misses signficant time.. there's chances the management will use that to lower his contract offer and EP declines it and bet on himself for 1 year. it's very rare for a star player to be 1 year from their final rfa year without an extension. way too much risk involved if EP doesn't get deal done in the summer.
  9. I don’t disagree with millers current value to the team. But again I don’t see the Canucks making any noise in the playoff in the next 2-3 years when miller will be 33. I doubt he will be a ppg player then. I mean he might but most likely not. He’s going to be a 8mil 3rd liner with more than 50% of his contract remaining most likely. His antic still worries me. When things are going great he’s awesome. When he’s struggling he tends to show it on the ice with his tantrums. He’s been great for us the last 4 years but what have we achieved? Nothing. We don’t know if OEL will bounce back but say he’s paired with hronek. He’s going to continue be playing in a defensive role that really never was his game even in Arizona. Who knows what we replace myer with will work or not. We signed Myers and pretty sure didn’t expect this either. We are missing a 3c maybe 2w and 1 or 2 top 4 depending on OEL. If it’s that easy to replace with ufa then it would have been done long ago
  10. i dunno where you get ur stats from.. the only thing u got corrept is Miller is a ppg guy.. he doesn't lead the team in hit forward or defence.. he doesn't lead the team in faceoff taken that's EP. he doesn't lead the team in fights that's burroughs.. i wouldn't trade for the sake of trading miller at this point, but if there's an offer with values i wouldn't say no to it. by the looks of it we are going to have pretty much the exact same team on the ice next season with no buyouts. maybe we can move or boeser or garland but they don't move the needle either way. i've said it over and over and over again.. there's literally only 2 teams that's not near the cap floor.. every other team is or will be at the cap floor once they sign all the minimum roster players even at minimum wage.. so where's this "financially struggling" team going to come from? Chicago and anaheim are literally the only 2 teams that won't be near the cap floor right now.. and by the time september rolls around.. it's more than likely they are already at the cap floor thx to all the teams in the league needing to dump caps feeding them assets.. something the canucks can't afford to do.. and even if they are willing.. then there's the NTC which i'm more than willing to bet Chicago and Anaheim are on them. the cap situation is as dire as it looks. we still need to sign a backup goalie.. let's assume they qualify bear... they literally don't have the cap space as it stands to fit pearson and poolman on the roster on day 1 of the season prior to placing them on LTIR even running the bare minimum 12 forward 6 defence 2 goalie.. i don't think the canucks wants to be operating in LTIR prior to season to f their ltir pool.. other teams can see this.. i don't see any team out there willing to help you out with a boeser garland or myers.
  11. not really.. demko's numbers was just as bad if not worse than martin prior to coaching change and him coming back from injury.. both of their play could just be a result of the "structure" delia was awful too until the coaching change. so doesn't hurt to give martin another chance as he's been fine in abbotsford.
  12. stevie y have amassed over 50 draft picks including the upcoming draft.. even with his team close to a playoff spot this season right up to the TDL he have the guts to be a seller. unlike our GM unable to be a seller in neither lost year and traded out a few draft picks. heck if u want to just compare the first year or 2.. he gotten 23 draft picks vs 13? JR tenure in vancouver have gotten off horribly.. he brought a lot of bad PR with his handling of a lot of things.. and the botched pearson injury.. like it or not there's a very good chance there's going to be a lawsuit against the team and medical staff once pearsons contract and likely his career over.. he's probably not saying anything now and nothing will come out till the eventually lawsuit.. 6-7months later.. your hand is still in a cast.. for a "broken hand" that was only gonna be out for couple weeks and now hes just worried about getting his hand back. the only thing JR have done that's competent is the value of the trades ain't far off.. but everything else from cap management.. amassing draft picks.. the front office firing of rachel doerrie.. the whole boudreau thing.. the pearson thing.. all have been pretty epic fail.
  13. i disagree QH have averaged even higher toi last season when we were actually pushing for a playoff spot down the stretch same with EP Miller.. they already shown they can play those mins and don't need to "develop" stamina.. feels like they just want to win to show the fans the team is better than the record indicate if they play desperate every game.. but too bad 3/4 of the games were against lottery teams and the playoff teams we were sub .500 and badly outshot in most of them.
  14. it's not even the same. they played all their players within their roster vs mavericks sat all their star players. the NHL teams are doing what they are allowed to do within the CBA.. spend to the minimum and see what happens.. you don't see the NBA fining Detroit.
  15. i like Islanders chance and prolly the only wild card that have a legit chance of going thru. Canes are well balance but losing Svech and not really doing anything at the TDL hurts. i think sorokin will shine and shut down the hurricane.. offensively i think it's a wash between the team defence prolly a wash too. but goaltending advantage islanders.
  16. the problem is not tanking or top 5 draft picks or what not.. it's this team never rebuilt properly once.. the last time we "rebuilt" was the brian burke era when we drafted the 2 sedins.. since then when was the last time the team "rebuilt" after 2013 2014.. we should have been rebuilding.. but instead we retooled.. instead of amassing a mass amount of draft picks and pray we hit 1 or 2 gems in the later round.. every single season. with the exception of 2014.. the canucks have less pick than they started off with and always missing 1 or 2 of their own picks in the first 3 rounds every single season.. the canucks have been taking short cuts every step of the way. With the exception of Vegas Seattle and probably Boston.. which teams havent gone thru a rebuild in the past say 10-15 years? maybe throw minnesota and nashville into that mix but that's prolly while they are stuck in mud in the realm of good enough to compete for the playoff.. never will be a threat for the cup. Hughes EP Demko and Miller is prolly good enough to make sure we don't bottom out and be the worse team in the league.. but that doesn't stop the GM from being a seller... and there's no reason for the team to not alternate goalies in march or stop playing QH almost 30 mins a night... they are coaching and deploying players like they are fighting for a playoff spot against the worse teams in the league for crying out loud.. i don't know what exactly it shows.. we can beat the bad teams if we play desperation game 7 hockey every game? anyways i hope whatever they are planning will work? EP kuz and hughes are exciting to watch.. but we have way too many holes to plug imo for this team to be a cup contender.. if the prospect in the system can plug those holes maybe we have a chance.. but i really don't see us plugging those holes with value UFA signings.. good players usually don't get to ufa.. and when they get to ufa?? it's coz they want to be paid.. nor are we loaded in prospects to be able to swing a trade with a team for a coveted player.
  17. unfinished business ∞ we are so good against bad teams every year people will believe we are cup contenders every year or we are so close
  18. i'd do it but i don't think the rangers would. what i meant was there'll be other teams in the 10-15 range prolly willing to offer straight up if he's available but whether or not the rangers will bite is another question. if they ever move schneider it'll be an nhl ready player that maybe further along.. if you are to ask me.. i think the rangers window really is going to be the next 2 years or bust. shesterkin is going to need a contract after the next 2 seasons.. and i'm going to say he'll prolly be looking in the 8mil+ range or even higher if they end up going short term as he's gonna be 30. they have so many big contract locked up it's really hard to see them able to field together a roster deep enough past the next 2 season.. they are able to now coz they have so many cheap ELC contracts on their rosters.. so if they move schneider.. i think it'll be for a win now player not something 3 years down the road. if they miss this window now.. they might be on the downswing and looking to rebuild/retool again in maybe 3-4 years.. Panarin zib kreider trouba trochek will all be 32+. and they are all locked up to big contracts
  19. ya schneider definitely is worth way more than a 19th pick right now if rangers were to move him i honestly don't think they'll move him for anything less than what hronek traded for.. i really don't see anyone outside of bedard fantilli michov and carlsson as guaranteed players. all have high potential but i'm sure rangers would want a sure thing if they are moving a sure thing in schneider.. on top of giving up a 1st rounder. some teams would prolly offer up their 1st rounder in the 10-15 range straight up for schneider alone
  20. ya but the difference is it only cost them a 3rd round pick to move up 3 spots. not a blue chip 1st RHD + 1st the type of capitals they'll need at the TDL if they are going all in on a player. Schneider if available will get a massive haul by himself. if rangers made schneider not available last 2 years.. i don't see them making him available this year for a draft pick when it's not even a sure thing regardless if they have it in their top 5 or 6
  21. i dont see why rangers would trade schneider and give up a 1st rounder on top just to move up in the draft to draft a players that's more than likely even further behind and not nhl ready for couple years at least. tbh Schneider will probably be better than whatever u end up with in the 10-11 slot alone... and they are pretty stacked at young forwards.. and drafting a defenceman makes 0 sense when they already have schneider.
  22. Mackinnon>>>>EP makar>hughes rantanen>>kuzmenko Landeskog=Miller their #2 3 4 defenceman prolly = or as good as hronek and better than anything we have outside of hughes/hronek their supporting cast of kadri nush burakovsky is prolly than what we have in our top 6 boeser garland i dont see any similarities
  23. Yes use his cap saving the first 2 years when we are still irrelevant spend to the cap and then dump a 5 mil player in 2 years time to make up for the cap penalty after factoring the increase to hronek and EP. So you save 6 or 7 mil the first 2 years.. spend another 6-7 mil to the cap.. then factor in the cap penalty 5mil in 2 years? So stuck with spending equivalent of 12 mil in cap?
  24. sure those matters.. but there's absolutely 0 reasons QH is playing 25-30 mins every game he's avg 27+ mins since tochette took over. sure the defense sucks it's injured missing players etc.. but you can still have structures and good habit by balancing the mins in mean nothing games? QH should be around 22 mins avg.. every once in a while in a close game or what not sure u can shorten the bench.. we are still sub .500 against playoff teams and dominating the garbage team.. kinda like last season when boudreau took over except slightly worse.. we were .500 against playoff teams and dominating the garbage.. i mean i see signs of this team improving and playing with better structures.. but i kinda don't like their approach to a lost season.. wins are fine.. but i prefer them to roll the lines balance out the mins instead of playing like a desperate team but still looking mediocre against the playoff teams and needing the goalie to bail them out.
  25. So you are comparing 8 years or total money to 7 years? And 4 years? So might as well say a 4x 10mil contract is also comparable because of total money? the difference between a Horvat say 6.5x7 or 8 vs a miller 8x7. Both are guaranteed to decline and prolly not live up to their contract. Let’s just say everything is perfect and they decline at 33.. you would have gotten 50-60% value out of the contract on Horvat vs you wouldn’t even get 50% of the contract value out of miller. again if management had 0 negotiation with him the entire summer until after miller was signed and then come with a low ball offer. Why bother countering? They could have easily negotiated with both at the same time I don’t see the reason why they have to get miller signed or traded before negotiating with Horvat. As for boeser? Of coz his contract will matter. They could have chosen to move him or walk away from him. So either bad asset management or bad cap management and they decide to go with bad cap management. Heck if they were planning on moving on from him anyways even at the TDL or whatever they could have filed for arbitration I’m done on this topic because Horvat is no longer on the team. What he say about the fan base he’s free to say what he feels just like you guys have the right to continue trash on him. I didn’t find his comment as bad as some of you that’s taking it to the most extreme negative comment ever maybe coz I’m not thin skinned like some of the people here that takes everything to the extreme on every issue like the pride night etc
