  1. JR honestly just likes to stir $&!# up. Arguing about whether or not Tkachuk was the "consensus" pick or what "consensus" means is stupid. Fact is that the majority of the scouting world had Tkachuk over Juolevi, meaning that the consensus was Tkachuk. Canucks went against the grain and picked Juolevi, who made the right choice remains to be seen - end of story. Stop polluting this thread with your consensus bullcrap.

I think we'll agree to disagree with that. Gardiner, Rielly, Zaitsev and Carrick is definitely a good start. They are most likely going to trade JVR for a young top 4 defenseman in the off-season, a move like that would significantly help their backend. I would probably take that core over Vancouver's current group of young defenseman, unless we draft a Liljegren this year. Frederik Andersen's been really good. He's a relatively young goalie and can develop with the core. It's been proven that you don't really need a franchise goalie to win a Stanley cup, or be competitors for one. There's been several instances of a goalie getting hot and carrying a team in the playoffs, or the team being so dominant that the marginal difference between a franchise and a good goalie is small enough to be cancelled out. Regardless, their players have developed insanely fast, almost unprecedented. Realistic timelines on players like Stecher, Hutton, Baertschi, Granlund to reach their ceilings for Canucks will take another 2-3 years. And then we need to wait for our top draft picks like Juolevi , Patrick?, and future picks to develop. Toronto's been only one of 2 teams to go from last place to playoffs in the last little while, quite impressive I would say. I, like all Canucks fans hope for an accelerated rebuild, where all our players take huge steps in a short time frame, and we luck out to some franchise talents. However, banking on that is unrealistic, to say the least. The more realistic timeline we have is 5-6 years to become a cup contender. We put our rebuild back 2/3 years with some of the poor strategies and directions this team has given us for the past 3 years. EDIT: And the way people are so consumed with Demko being a franchise goalie, is the problem with Vancouver fans. The current management group keeps hyping up Demko to be a future "franchise goalie", something that not many goalies are. And when/if Demko becomes that player, it will take a long, long time. The whole notion that the management group is banking their goaltending plans on a 21 year old rookie AHL goalie is worrisome to say the least. If Demko busts, then what's next? It doesn't seem like this management has an alternative plan to anything really. I've also read rumors that they didn't want Tkachuk because they thought Virtanen was going to be that guy, well hah. There's no plan B with this team. Putting unfair tags on our prospects/young players is really going to be the demise of this management group. Hyping up the expectations is not going to go well, and the past 2 years have already proven that not all Nucks fans are stupid and enclosed.

More uneducated, uninformative, immature posts. Though I shouldn't have expected anything more.

I joined CDC before you did, been surfing this board for 11 years. CDC is so fickle and sensitive. You criticize anything about the Canucks, you get shat on. Be realistic and suddenly you're a "Torontroll". I have no association to Toronto and could give a rats ass. The truth is, we are years behind Toronto because we failed to commit to a full rebuild. You can choose to believe otherwise, but regardless of coach or management, this team is behind on every organizational aspect. The fans of JB and TL largely resemble themselves, similar to how they fired Gilman because he disagreed with them and wanted nothing to do with the horrid Sbisa and Dorsett contracts. Refusing to believe the facts and focus on the bs that management feeds them. The team is not on the horizon, the future is not bright. All our prospects/ young players have not shown the ability to be game-changers. Every cup winning team has 3/4 game-changing players on their team, we have none. If we get lucky, we can score some through the draft, but that will take time. This team won't be competitive for the cup for another 5/6 years IMO. I feel sorry for those who expect a quick turnaround. EDIT: With regards to Willie D, he'll be coaching in the NHL in some sort of capacity. Whether he'll be a head coach or not, that's anyone's guess. I think he has a solid reputation across the league. Here in Vancouver, he might be viewed negatively, but reputation is essential in a country club league like the NHL. He's a class act and seems like a great person. Best of luck.

Bar's set so low around here. Brock Boeser is not a blue-chip prospect/young talent. He's going to be a great player, but not a franchise changing one. He's in the same tier as Horvat. The Canucks desperately need game-changing players. Auston Matthews is. Connor McDavid is. Drew Doughty is. Patrik Laine is. Boeser is not. Sorry to break it to you.
  6. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Smartest thing you've said in the entire thread. 100%. Donnie and the Moj are absolutely bang-on. Making the playoffs gave management false hope, and allowed them to justify their decisions, even though many fans and experts knew the team punched above their weight, and wasn't good. It delayed the inevitable of committing to a proper rebuild.
  7. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Canucks fans are content with mediocrity. They love their mediocre prospects and young players.
  8. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Leafs came out and told the fans that pain was coming, losing was expected. They didn't bs the fans and take them as idiots. They rebuilt properly and did it the right way. Canucks came out and claimed to be playoff contenders every year, and their actions correlated with their message. Their acquisitions failed miserably, causing them to accidentally tank and get top draft picks. The goal of your management team, is not to lie, manipulate and bs your fans like Trevor has done. I can't take your opinion seriously, sorry. If you think Loui Eriksson's contract won't affect the rebuild, then you really have no credibility at all.
  9. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Rebuilding on the fly isn't rebuilding, it's called retooling. Trading for young core players can be considered rebuilding. Acquiring the likes of Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson and Bolland, is not rebuilding.
  10. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Actually, none of that ever happened. You can try to bring it up, but there's nothing there.
  11. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Honestly, you're the most important type of fan to this fanbase. Blindly loyal, unreasonably optimistic, and will support management decisions no matter what. You are the type of fan that will fund a rebuild, even through their lies and poor decision making. That list is unimpressive, I could list 20+ teams with better futures. No blue-chips. Boeser's an arguable one.
  12. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Can't really take your opinion seriously if you think Loui Eriksson's contract won't affect the rebuild. If by skewered, you mean pestered by Canuck groupies that can't accept any criticism, then yeah.
  13. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

The catch is, you can't do both at the same time. Otherwise you'll end up like the Vancouver Canucks. No blue-chip prospects and no playoff results. I'm genuinely curious if current management group is paying off posters to spread their branwashing garbage. By your logic, Pittsburgh and Chicago have been "Rebuilding" forever. They constantly turnover their roster and bring in younger guys, does that mean they're rebuilding? You can't rebuild and compete for playoffs at the same time. It almost never works.
  14. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Don't let the facts get in the way. Please, I really want to watch these fools continue on.
  15. [Report] Canucks fire Willie Desjardins

Why do I care if he scores 20-25 next season? We'll still be a bottom five team regardless. It's years 4/5/6 where we MIGHT be a competitive team again, that contract WILL hold us back. No current evidence we have indicates that Eriksson will be even an average player by his 4th, 5th, and 6th year, let alone a 6M cap hit player. Eriksson might turn out to be one of the worst contract ever, period. He's a support player that relies on playing with offensive players to generate offense. He won't be David Clarkson bad but it will be a contract that will hurt the rebuild.
