[Report] Canucks name Quinn Hughes as captain
nuck-lifer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Yep, never a mention of Demmer actual being an option for captain, just his needed leadership for the group. We all know how captain goalies turn out anyway. -

Myers will have an A if others are injured until he's traded. Even Hughes mentioned him as a source of support -

Perfect choice, and it takes part of the up coming Petterson contract drama out of the way. Outside of being one of our best if not the best, his competitive demeanor and communication skills are key for the captaincy. -
His foot speed is an issue but he took a step in the right direction last year. He was projected as high as Kevin Bieksa with his aggressive play, decent size, right side D, and taking a leadership role on the farm team. Really liked his play last playoffs when it counted. The diff is Bieksa put up better offensive numbers but if Woo can continue with his solid defensive play and chip in he could be a decent 3rd pairing option 24-25 season or later this year if he continues to build off of last year. He's 23 and Bieksa made the big team at 24.

I think we have a perfect blend of accountability on the ice from Petey, Level headed spokesperson from Hughes and wear your heart on your sleeve leadership from Miller who be the first to speak up when things go south. I think there's a better chance of it having more of a negative impact on the team play overall if they choose a captain right now. Leave r be! They're all good leaders in their own right.

Who here is actually happy with the Hronek trade?
nuck-lifer replied to Odd.'s topic in Canucks Talk
That's the price you pay for an RFA Top 4 RD Dman that should put up 35+ points and the jury's still out until he gets 20 or so games under his belt with Van. -
Watching Bains excel from day one to the end of the playoffs was amazing. This year he should be on their #1 PK and shutdown line while adding to his offensive output. Smarter player overall then the other 2 but he needs to increase his foot speed for NHL action. I wish one of these guys was a center though!

[Buyout] Oliver Ekman-Larsson
nuck-lifer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is rinse and repeat. They just did the same as Benning when he traded for OEL. get rid of cap space for short term gain. The 2 years of 5M cap hit are in Petey and Hughes prime years and they wont be able to advantage of it. They should kept him for at least another year or 2 and see if he could bounce back after his injury this year. And hopefully I eat my words in 3 years but certainly can't agree with this today. -

Calgary has a lot of fire power but we played them pretty well last 3 games. Hogs line has been red hot so hopefully that continues. Hogs has improved his 200' game by leaps and bounds and should easily make our top 9 on the big team in the fall. Dowling/ Karlsson line will need to start producing to balance out the attack and the PP needs to connect this round. One player that may not have stood out on the scoresheet but looks really good is Arshdeep Bains. Great defensive awareness, PK and good hockey IQ out there. Not sure if he makes the big club in the next year or two but if he does, it will be his D game that gets him there. Could be a good PK option and 4th liner for Van. Needs to work on his skating. Both teams have great goaltending right now so should be the difference in the series. Just nice to have one Canucks team playing meaningful games and what better opportunity to add some salt to the Flames wounds this year! -

This year Winnipeg and Seattle are captain-less but it's not common. Because we have 3 candidates with no obvious choice another year of A's wouldn't hurt, or.... maybe Tyler Myers sneaks up the middle to take it! haha -

May be best to let the 3 wear 'A's until the end of next season and then evaluate who wears the 'C' if anyone. Also seeing how Hughes really stepped up this last few months may make them think to let it ride with the A and if Hughes continues his trend give him the C. He speaks well, pushes himself as much as anyone, rarely loses his cool, but one more year could cement him as 'the one' rather then a close comparison. -
The Calgary Flames Excellent Season
nuck-lifer replied to aqua59's topic in General Hockey Discussion
They should make the playoffs next year but Marky is not the same. He played pretty well down the stretch but still made mental mistakes and seems to crack under pressure. Don't see them going past the first round if they make it. Demmer (if healthy) is a superior tender. Tanev is also aging and injuries are catching up to him like in Van. Must admit it felt good when Winterpeg sealed it. ABC any body but Calgary!
