  1. Yep, if we changed nothing I would expect us to be a playoff team next year, maybe 3rd in out division. PODz , HOGS, Petey, Hughes will be better while Horvat, Miller, Garland, Boes, Demko, Boes would probably be comparable. BUT not a contender or even pretender. Must find a way to unload salary with Myers, Dickenson, Poolman, while getting Miller on a favorable contract (7.5-8M) or trade him for a studly young Dman.
  2. Don't disagree he's had his best year as a Canuck. A lot of that is thanks to OEL whos defensive play against the top lines has been very solid. Tops on our team. so you have 2 D over 7M in Hughes/ OEL so he has to go along with Poolman . Keep Schenn, Burroughs, Dermott (great pickup), and trade for a top 4 RD. Both Poolman and Myers will be tough contracts to trade but for sure Myers should be out CAP wise It may take bundling Garland or Boeser with Myers for a top RD but have to look long term here. Should be a very interesting summer as the JR/PA put their stamp on our future.
  3. Boom. That's exactly it. Hansen is gunning for Beiksa's throne with no nonsense comments like this He also reminds me of Motte early in his career on the 4th line until the Sedins upped his value.
  4. Why not get something for him. That 4th pick may or may not turn out, but that same 4th pick could also garnish us a 4th liner like Motte that's paid under a Million rather then 2-2.5 Motte also has 2 very good role playing line mates that upped his value and they will be paid in the 1M range. A good 4th line is a must for any teams success but the salary has to be inline with 750-1.5m range.
  5. exactly, just like we overpaid Beagle / Roussel at 3M each as a rebuilding team supporting the rookies. Now we do have a core of young talent so keeping a handle on our bottom 6 and bottom pairing salaries is critical
  6. If you look at contenders, like Tampa/ Florida / Flamers they have 5-7 forwards at 4+ M and the bottom 6 are generally under 1.5 M with ELC players giving them great dollar value to compete. Motte fits a 4th line role and could be 1-1.5M at the most. Paying 2M +just cuts into paying a top 4 RD what they're worth. Lammikko is actually worth more being a center for the said 4th line and he may be offered just over 1M Myers/Poolman is impacting our cap the most right now so hopefully they can swing a deal in the summer to free up that space JR/PA have a pile of work to do this summer!
  7. Agree Love Motte, but love the Canucks more, so knowing this is a cap decision to take advantage of a top 4 D or top 6 forward in the summer, then we should be all in. Can't afford to over pay the Beagles, Roussels and Mottes of the world for 4th line duties anymore if we want to build a pretender to contender IMO
  8. Hate to say but I don't think the team displayed any confidence from the drop of the puck likely due to Halak in net. All hindsight but it would have been interesting to see how they would have played with Martin in net.
  9. Past 10 games Canucks are 6-4 Past 10 games with high danger chances for and against, Canucks are 2-8 Halak was as bad as half the team tonight but man BB has he work cut out for him to reduce these grade A chances Rutherford says we need more speed in the line up, completely agree.
  10. Buffalo is our next back to back, currently 29th 2 steps below Jersey so maybe we get a loser point, right?
  11. I don't think its time to move on, but time for Bo to shed the human suppression system that Green had in place when they were pushed around, not just physically but also on the score sheet. Wouldn't expect Horvat to fight someone every game, but would expect out pure frustration to play with more edge and get in players faces, like Podz did last night even if it causes a PK. BB has talked about most of the players, good and bad but he hasn't brought up Bo much at all. Feeling that he would like to see more emotion from Bo knowing the type of coach he is. He's had Getzlav and Crosby as captains and both of them are known to take no prisoners when the chips are down.
  12. Agree , Horvat for some reason is not showing up when we need him the most. Have been a massive supporter of his character but for some reason he's stop trying and driving play. Not saying Miller should take the reins (that's like picking Kesler over Henrik) but Horvat needs a serious awakening to earn some respect again and put this teams on his back for awhile. Not just him though, Dickenson, Pearson, Brock, Myers, Hamonic, Poolman, should all be considered when it comes to our future. Whatever makes sense. Bottom line is we need to consider moves now, and do the best for the team long term, and not wait 2-3 weeks while others are making meaningful trades now.
  13. Our PK was working well until we stopped pressuring all over the ice. We need to get back to this and I agree that we don't have the personnel to be really effective. Dickinson was supposed to be that PK defensive forward that can chip in offensively. He was touted in Dallas as that teammate so I have no idea what happened to him. Maybe Green ruined him, not sure but he has to step up and play the role he was brought in for. Also I think Horvat needs to come off the PK and focus on his offensive game and defending other teams top lines. He seems to be lost out there sometimes when he use to drive play all the time. On the PP, I like the idea of trying Hughes down low dishing the puck while OEL handles the line. Get some more movement from Petey and Brock as well, but don't get too cute with puck until your firing on all cylinders, just get shots to the net which OEL is very good at.
  14. Yeah, Peteys hitting the dirty areas and he sounded very relaxed and confident in his interview. Best one in a long time. Putting him now with Garland and Pearson is good timing IMO. Him and Garly have chemistry and should give those Ducks nothing to quack about tomorrow! GCG!
  15. Pearson stepping in for Garland is just another sign of a different coaching style Where Green pushed a passive game of self fear, Boudreau pushes an aggressive game of dictating pace including doing the right thing even if you take an instigator call. Besides the Gordie Howe hattrick, Pods and Hogs looked great together with a boost of confidence. Hughes was the first star especially on the D side of his game tonight. What a turn around from this driven kid!
  16. Awesome win last night. From an opposing teams point of view , which line do you focus on? Pettersson, Horvat or Miller. They keep pressuring one shift after the other The Garland / OEL trade is paying serious dividends in the last 7 games man!
  17. This is crazy. While everyone wants to watch a Laffs/ Canucks game tonite it makes no sense to not cancel. 4 AHL'r D is justification alone.
  18. That period ain't no Picasso, that's for sure. Hopefully we come storming back whether we win or not, just to prove that the Green Canucks are no more.
