  1. Evolution of Canuck Strategy

Choosing Sbisa over Bieksa, which is effectively what they did, was just plain dumb. Signing Miller, playoff push or no, was just plain dumb, and tied their hands significantly to the point that they had to move a Bieksa for cap room and are still short a fourth C. Dorsett's contract is a joke. Our D is in shambles, and we have no top-four pairing guy in the pipeline aside from Hutton (hopefully) and Brisebois (long way out). I understand the idea of a rebuild. But, rebuilding and getting younger just for rebuilding and getting younger's sake is dumb. The moves last offseason were unrealistic and have limited our options this year. Its dumb chasing after dumb. Therefore, whereas I appreciate that you tried to rationalize all this, and admit you may not be too far off in what they're telling themselves around the conference table right now, this whole thing smacks more of them all just winging it more than a coherent strategy. And, results suggest they really don't know what they're doing.
  2. Well...that's sorta my point, though. If things are so bad with our Cap (which they kinda are) that we need to move a guy like Bieksa to free up space, what is the point in giving Sbisa $3.6 over three when Bieksa is a UFA next year anyway? That's $8.2 in room available to us beginning 2016, and there's no drama. I understand that someone on the blue line has to go. We can't afford nine contracts on the blue line, since Corrado and Clendenning are no longer waiver-exempt. GMJB seems to have chosen Sbisa, then, over Bieksa. Fancystats guys argue that Sbisa is one of the worst possession blueliners in the NHL right now. The guys at canucksarmy.com make very compelling arguments as to how bad Sbisa really is. Yes, Bieksa is getting older. But, he's fought a lot of battles for us over the years. If he wants to walk away as a UFA after next year, you tip your cap. He's earned the right to be a third-pairing guy for us, in spite of getting on in age. OK, maybe this is just asset management in their view point, and that theyd have gotten nothing for not tendering Sbisa and letting him walk, as well as they'd get nothing for Bieksa leaving as a UFA next season. That, and saving $1mil in cap between the two contracts. For me, though, if its such a priority to move Bieksa, it was a pile of dumb to retain Sbisa as well. Take the $8.2 mil and make runs at either Franson or Sekera.
  3. If this team is so hellbent on moving Bieksa to free up $4.5M in cap space, why on earth did they commit $3.6 over three to Luca Sbisa? Its dumb move after dumb move compounding even dumber moves... In this case, however, we're talking about one of the cornerstones of the locker room for the last decade. And, as others have said, now its drama time. Benning may be a great scout, and I certainly like what he's doing in the draft. But, their management of the roster is borderline incompetent to date.
  4. Reality of the situation - we're a bottom feeder

I'm going to expand on this thought. In terms of skill, we are absolutely not a bottom feeder. We aren't that far off of the Top 10 finish we enjoyed here this past season. In terms of belief, however, we are absolutely a bottom feeder. Despite the bodies, the experience and the talent, I don't think there is a person in the organization or fan base who thinks that this bunch in its current form can sustain a Cup run. How does that change? I have no idea.
  5. Fracking Henrik....ridiculous...absolutely no excuse for our first liners....
  6. Ha ha ha!!! Right??? Just saying, though, he does a lot of chirping out there...Bert kept his mouth shut and just did his thing....Kass could learn a bit still, I reckon!
  7. He needs to stop chirping refs the whole fracking game, really...every little thing, he chirps refs...just lay low and bring the Kassassination when he needs to!
