  1. That longer term argument is valid. And makes a good case for Hughes. But it’s disappointing that so many fans fall for the Vancouver Inquirer deadbeats in this town. The “distraction” was exclusively stirred up by certain media members making a mountain out of a mole hill. And please find one interview where JT made himself or the team look bad. IMO he is by far the best with the media . He’s as honest and humble off the ice as he’s passionate and forward on the ice. So happy he’s here. One time he gave a curt response after the stick slam. Because he nor his teammates were concerned about it. All players have a bad day. There are interviews of Quinn where he’s looked quite arrogant. Denying his own sub par performance on the ice. Petey has been short with reporters a couple of times as well. Miller wears his heart on his sleeve which is endless fodder for the amateur hacks in this town
  2. It will be interesting to see how Captain Quinn handles the questions when the team goes on a bit of a losing streak. With the local media. But also in the dressing room with other players some of whom are older vets. But the team won’t go on a losing streak ever again now that we are contenders.
  3. I also think JT was the clear best choice. Just saying he was “antagonistic” to his teammates doesn’t make it true. He wasn’t. At all. Or even to the media. All of his interviews have been thoughtful and honest. I have no idea where these BS stories come from. Actually we do. From a few of the sports media personalities who need listeners. In fact Vancouver has needed a captain like Miller for a long time . A natural leader, and an experienced veteran, with a passion for winning. Quinn as of right now, is not in the same league Okay before the flames, I just had to get that out of my system. i said previously in the thread that I’m 100% on board. Because it’s still a good choice. Any of the three would have been. And also it’s done and I have no choice but to support the team as they are. So I will find the positives Quinn is younger highly skilled player. What if Miller play drops off in 3 years (I hope not!) but it’s possible. Quinn has a higher potential to keep the respect of his on ice play with his teammates (and other teams) for a longer period of time This decision will most likely stop any ruminating about him leaving for NJ. And that would also have an influence on Petey sticking around. Because he’s still young he will grow into his new role. It may push him to be more forward on the ice as well as the locker room. That edge that we admire in Miller we should see develop with this new responsibility. I expect a feistier Quinn on the ice He seemed to really want it. That’s important. If it had to be a choice between three reluctant candidates that would not be great. He wants to lead. He, by all reports, is not afraid to call out his teammates. All to make his teammates rise to be as competitive as he is. All in for Quinn!!! Go Canucks Go!!!
  4. Congratulations Quinn! Gotta admit he wasn’t my first choice, but all things considered probably the best choice. 100% behind this decision.
  5. Yup I’d say that Quinn, JT, and Petey each have SOME of the qualities to be captain but no one has it all. Quinn wants the job and is the most even keeled personality but he doesn’t have the same grit and passion and proven leadership as Miller who doesn’t have the franchise superstar quality as Petey (who if he was named captain it would almost garantee he’d sign long term) my first choice is JT, but I’d be fine with any of them, or three A’s for now
  6. “I understand where I can be better, in the attack zone. Usually, for me, one shot in the game, two shots is good, but it’s not in the NHL. Usually, a forward needs two or maybe three shots in the game because I have a lot of moments.” I wonder if Tocchet agrees that it’s in the attack zone and shooting more that’s the area he wants Kuz to be better at
  7. Yeah even though Hughes wants it, I think Miller is the better choice for the reasons you gave. Bo always seemed to do the bare minimum. Cookie cutter captain. When some intangible like the pandemic comes along that’s when real leaders step up
  8. I get the impression he’d be really bummed if he didn’t get the captaincy.
  9. What happened? Did "lets not talk" Bell buy Rogers or something?
  10. Sounds like management dropped the ball in regards to dealing with injuries again if Mikheyev is not ready to play at 100% by the start of the season. It would have been optically terrible to announce Mik would have to undergo surgery right after training camp last season, right after we got him. But it sounds like it would have been the correct and prudent move in the long run. He may have then even been able to test it out for a few games at the end of last season. And more importantly be able to work out more aggressively this summer to be ready for this season. Hindsight is 20/20 of course. But if its true a player needs at least one full year to recover properly from this kind of surgery, ie. Roussel, then management has shot itself in the skate. If he's questionable for training camp, that does not bode well for any thought that he will be the player when he signed here to start in October this year. And may take most of the season to catch up, maybe taking him off the top six. I hope not. I do not get why any team would delay a needed surgery to a top six player, unless they were regarded to be a team on the cusp of a Stanley Cup contending season.
  11. Waiting here so bored The season to get on board For this message board
  12. 46 pages of opinion on being happy with the Hronek trade. A player who has barely suited up yet for the Canucks. Only on CDC
  13. I was quoting canucklehead44 there and accidentally hit the submit button too soon But I did pick Hodgson as most disappointing as a Canucks player, not as a league player. ie my disappointment with Grabner here (another one!) is not affected by his eventual success in New York. Disappointed in Cody’s on ice development being projected as future captain material and that he developed that injury/disease (though not his fault there) and in his overall attitude together with his helicopter father’s interference that Cody seemed in lock step with.
  14. “It is kind of hard to put it in rankings, but I'd put it in this order: 1. Most underperfrming signing - Eriksson 2. Most disappointing draft pick - Juolevi 3. Saddest signing based on potential - Ferland 4. Saddest draft pick based on potential - Hodgson 5. Worst trade (at the time and in hindsight) - OEL” Yeah you almost have to categorize the failures into different kinds. Like one of the failures said “you can’t just eat one” what is it about this franchise hiring people from other teams that had just eliminated us from a SCF? Keenan and Messier after 94, and then we hire Benning after 2011 to implement the “Boston model” Virtanen, I never watched him play in junior so there wasn’t much to base any disappointment on. He basically played well below expectations from the start. I guess if it’s based on his draft position then I can see that. Same with OJ. OEL whom Benning had tried to acquire a year before he finally landed his man, was already showing signs of decline in that final year in Phoenix. But that didn’t cause one moment of pause in our GMs quest. One of the dumbest signings in franchise history considering what we gave up and that we only had to wait out one more season for three other of Bennings questionable signings to be off the books I’d have to say Cody Hodgson especially after watching him play in the World Juniors. Maybe tied with LE, and OEL for other reasons
  15. This thread has the same painful longevity as the contract itself
  16. yeah I find him frustrating to watch at times. He's like Ronning without the hockey smarts. During one of his mesmerizing ice capades with the puck in the O zone, he might skate a couple of circles right around the net, deeking out 1, 2, 3, opposition players even, but during that time there are different moments (actually seconds) where a teammate is open for a pass & shot, but he'll keep the puck himself until he finally is pressured to shoot it from a terrible angle, many times right on the goal line. Fun watching him skate around and make the opposition look foolish, but that's not going to help put the puck in the net.
  17. Or a 25 point LE But on Boeser, I wish him the best. It happens to other players finding their game again, so no reason he can't, especially under Tocchet. I wasn't going to compare him with LE but there is one thing in common. Every season there was/is renewed optimism that this will be the season he will rebound to how he played when he was younger. No other comparison I can make between them though....I feel dirty now
  18. I'm glad to hear Bieksa is remaining with HNIC. Yeah I see the original post came from a giant word salad at the end of a blog. Dam, I hope its true. Please not Kenward or Tomlinson. Tomlinson is not as annoying as Kenward but almost. Both are amateurs compared to having Bieksa, Ferraro, OR Cheech. We were lucky and blessed to have Garrett here while he was here. If Bieksa is out, Hansen or Ferraro please. Not gon happen but: wouldn't it be fun to have Brucethereitis as colour?
  19. Good choice. Ray has his flaws. Gets a little stubborn and bent out of shape on some topics. But he's always enjoyable to listen to, and insightful. I was honestly dreading this decision, that it might be someone like Joey Kenward *shudder* or another of the schmoes from 650 I honestly thought Ray was 'too big' for us. I thought he's made it into the national, and American market now. Why would he come back to BC, in the remote corner of the hockey world, to start a new job. Doing games when half the country is already going to bed. Hearing how Bieksa is being let go in HNIC, if I had my druthers, I think Ray is better suited to Kevin's spot there speaking nationally, and I'd then rather have Kevin come back here to do colour for the Canucks. Hansen would have been an okay choice too. I really like his radio spots. But his voice, and delivery, could get a little tiring IMO.
  20. On Kuzmenko, I agree that there was probably some in the media who questioned how ready Kuz might be for the NHL, right after he signed here. A shorter season in the KHL. Less skill to play against there. A new culture and language to deal with. etc etc.. I'm saying this from my memory. I do remember a few off the cuff questions right after he was signed from radio personalities. They have to fill their time slots. But I found no actual articles written with the topic being about a concern with his NA game. Unless you have a source. Here is one early article by MacIntyre after the first times we saw him at training camp, Where he was already impressing media and fans alike https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/rookie-kuzmenko-shows-early-star-potential-at-canucks-camp/ Rookie Kuzmenko shows early star potential at Canucks camp I can understand raising those questions before he got here. Perfectly legitimate questions that might come up on talk radio. I think we were all asking them. And hoping for the best. And the best is pretty much what we got from the get go. And so the media, and fans, had their answer. And pretty much shut up about questioning his readiness once the season began. I just don't see any controversy or overstepping their roles in simply asking these questions especially before he played a game in NA. Totally different if a pundit was going on about being certain that Kuzmenko WOULD be a bust, not fit in, be bad at the NHL game, etc... (And I don't know how they could if he hadn't actually played here yet.) Its easy to say.."it was all over the sports media" but then its kinda difficult to take you seriously if you can't produce just one article to back that up. Questioning JTs signing...yes I can find one source easy. .......one minute later..... Canucks Army did a piece on that https://canucksarmy.com/news/9-reasons-hate-canucks-jt-miller-extension. I just think there are so many other more legitimate dumb, and incendiary things some say in our sports media that to use this is a weak example, and takes away from the more egregious crimes of idiots and rumour mongers like Sekeres.
