  1. If greed wins the day and the NHL expands to 36 teams. That might be it for me. I see nothing but disaster with that. Short term gain for long term headaches. And Vancouver will never win a cup.

4 teams with the generous expansion rules? It will destroy existing teams rosters.

I think 32 is the perfect number.  Half the teams make the playoffs, and then those teams get eliminated by half until there is one champion.

It's this perfection that makes me feel like the NHL is guaranteed to muck it up.

  2. Any true crime fans here? I am, but I mostly listen to podcasts. I don’t watch documentaries very much.

I just started getting into it, especially with limited hockey content available over the summer.  From a recommendation, I started listening to My Favourite Murder.  I've also tried out Buried Bones and Canadian True Crime.  What have you been listening to?  Any recommendations?

Given his injury and the signings that already happened, I would say the chances of that are very slim.

  4. Hot Take: Instead of hating on Vegas and Seattle for getting favourable entry draft conditions that have allowed them to be competitive from Day 1 blame the NHL for handcuffing  previous expansion teams.

That said, it'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever cheer for Vegas.

  5. I'm going to work in Kamloops for a couple of days and my clubs are coming with me.  Where should I play after the work is done?

@Cromeslab - I played Kamloops G&CC Monday, Eagle Point yesterday.  Both were spectacular.  Thanks for the tips!

I'll be playing Tobiano on a non-work trip next month, but I like the looks of the other two.  Thanks!

  7. what if we trade miller or boeser and bought out OEL?

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

@smithers joe - The $6M cap hit goes with him.  It might be attractive to a team looking to stay close to the cap floor.  For $1M in cash, they get $6M in cap hit.

I don't like the buyout route.  It means we are stuck with his cap hit for double the time.  There has to be a better way.

  9. No world championships for Petey. Insurance issues.

@Drive-By Body Pierce - I think it was on the Marek podcast, they were saying that it's not that Sweden doesn't want to pay for it, it's because the insurance companies won't insure a contract that doesn't exist.  The value of Petey's next contract is unknown and the insurance companies won't insure an unknown value.

It's insurance related.  The way I understand it, he's going into a contract year and you can't get insurance for a contract that doesn't exist yet.  If he had a career impacting injury he would only be covered for one year.

An official range has yet to be confirmed, however Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini's chief technical officer, estimates it at somewhere between six to nine miles.

Reminds me of the time in 2011 when the Canucks' injuries (except Manny) all worked together like Tetris to get them through to the playoffs.

      The Canucks were innovators.

  15. Bought some resistance bands for work. Last experience I had was with Cher resistance bands. One snapped and nearly took my eye out. This time I bought cheap, made in China clearance bands. I live dangerously.

I get enough resistance at work without having to order more online.

      goalie13

It's quite likely.  That's the only one I can personally remember.  I just remember thinking at the time that it was a pretty good deal, until it turned out that the future considerations were Jim the House.  Although he didn't pan out as hoped, he was still one of my favourites at the time.

@6of1_halfdozenofother - The only one I can remember is from the trade deadline of 1993.  The Canucks acquired Murray Craven in exchange for a 3rd round pick and future considerations.  After the playoffs were done, those future considerations were settled up in the form of Jim Sandlak.

  19. Why isn’t Quinn Hughes talked about more. Not only did he become the fastest defencemen in NHL history to 200 assists he’s also underrated af defensively

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

He isn't talked about more because most of the talk around here is about who people want to trade away.

  20. Random question. Is there some sort of rule against a team signing a goaltender that's just a dude so obese that he fills up the entire net?

Maybe Ryan Reynolds has promised Gary a cameo in the next Deadpool movie in exchange for his group winning the bid.

  24. Sometimes I wonder, is Bedard the next Crosby / MacKinnon / Stamkos, or is he the next Yakupov / Stefan / Daigle?  Or somewhere in between?

@HorvatToBaertschi - I also remember watching Justin Pogge at the World Juniors.  World Junior success doesn't always translate to NHL success.

  25. imo, players should also carry some risk for their futures.

say a player gets an 8x8 contract

..their base salary should be 5 mil with bonuses to take it 8 mil.

then if their skill decline, so should their bonus money.

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

I think a better solution is to bring back option years.  That way, after X number of years on the contract the team or the player (depending on terms) can choose to extend the player or let them go to free agency.
