  1. If we are not making the playoffs this year. Which high probability then you sell whatever you can outside the core of (Petey, Boeser, Miller, Horvat, Hogz, Hughes) and other top prospects and accumulate as much draft capital or other prospects as possible. The collection of picks can then be used to help get rid inefficient contracts like Loui, Beagel, Roussel etc giving us much needed cap flexibility when it's going to still be a buyers market in Free Agency or even be able to take advantage of trades if teams have too many players to protect. But Jimbo is likely to much of a simpleton to think 10 steps ahead to make moves like these. Likely run out of time just deciding whether or not to even trade.
  2. Watching those highlights looks like he has amazing hand eye coordination.....Really reminds me of Holstrom (sp?)....he made a living in front of the net. Hopefully JG can do the same for us. Definitely complimentary to the skill players we have/drafted recently.
  3. I think more than confidence his conditioning is just not up to par. If you look at him his speed is not that special anymore. I think all the weight he added on has actually hurt his agility and separation speed. I want JV to be a more skilled forward and I think if he is a trimmed well conditioned at 210 lbs he would be so effective.
  4. So confused by this trade....its not that I think the value isn't equal its just why the timing. I would rather have taken the risk to see what Shinkaruk would have become then get Granlund for right now, when you don't really need him. He isn't going to help you make the playoffs. You have Vey, Cracknell and McCann that can play behind Bo & Hank for the rest of the year. Even if there are injuries just call up from players from AHL. This actually harm us in getting in a higher draft pick. Also don't understand how Granlund helps us next year. We have Hank, Bo, Sutter and McCann. If you want Sutter to play RW what we actually need then is a 4th line C that is great at face-offs, at PK and preferably is RHD....complete opposite of Granlund. I have a feeling there has to be another trade coming to move a C. My guess is McCann involved in either Drouin trade or for a good young D. If this is it to the trade I don't like it at all. Hopefully there is more coming.
  5. The biggest thing I have noticed about JV is that he is continually moving his feet and handling the puck more....the previous games I just felt he was too cautious in the offensive zone....backing out too quickly as not to get caught and I think that might have looked like he has low hockey IQ. I think after WJC he has decided to just play his game...i.e. Handle puck, make moves & plays in the O-zone and try to hit open areas then skate back hard for D.....I just hope he continues this trend and puts together solid 2nd half of the season.
  6. If Benning allows him to be on the Nucks after this WJC it just goes to show he is playing favourites.......Jake did nothing to prove he belonged on the team at the start of the season and he has done nothing to prove he can stay. If GMJB really preaches roster spots based on play then he actually needs to show it........Virtanen is not ready.....he really needs to be back in Junior to continue to develop and maybe AHL next year if he is not ready
  7. I don't think he played actually. When they showed Chezch lineup his name wasn't there so don't think they dressed him.
  8. Not sure if anyone saw this one defensive play he made in the 3rd I believe. Our LD stepped up outside our blue line on the wall and the puck and a sharks player got past him....As he entered our zone, and there was potential for a 2 on one....Bo came out of nowhere rubbed out the sharks player along the wall...took the puck away did a quick stick handle to avoid another sharks player pressuring him and smoothly chipped the put to Dorseet at the Left wall to start the break out. It was a beauty of a defensive play. I don't understand people saying he is not ready. To me he is a stud on defensive, as long as his face-off percentage continue. People are concerned about his offensive play but I am not sure what you want from me except create chances, and by my calculations he has had atlas 2/3 per game. I would be more concerned if he wasn't creating chances and was unable to even handle the puck in the offensive zone, which is not the case. He is playing limited 4th line minutes with Hansen and Dorsett and his line is creating chances regularly while being a less of a defensive liability. He has been sheltered but I don't think he needs to be.
  9. Frack this is just great....this season is such a wash. Blaming this season on Torts he has bad juju
  10. We need someone like Ehlers in our system....We have too many prospects that are average to below average skaters....Gaunce, Horvat, Shink (more shifty then fast) and Jensen ( a little above avg but not elite speed). I want a prospect that's going to get you out of your seat and Ehlers provides that......Also in some sites I have seen him listed at 5'11 and 175....Still small but he can put on weight....like Nyquist, Zetterberg and Datsyuk or even Kane...enough that he can play. If Ehlers is gone then Virtanen will do but I wouldn't want to take Ritche.....big guys with skating problems always look good in junior but unless they improve their speed vastly it will be hard to dominate in the big leagues...see Bernier, Cheechoo, even Kassian for now.
  11. Amen...him and Bieksa are a horrible paring..one of then needs to go..hopefully Edler
  12. I am not sure what is it with every coaching staff first AV now Torts both pairing Bieksa and Edler together.....that has got to be one of the worst D pairings in the league....not saying they are bad individually but they just are horrible together....neither of them can cover up for the other ones mistakes, which there are a lot of.
  13. Not a big fan of Sam Reinhart. I know he has the playmaking ability and is gritty but his skating concerns me. I think he will be a good 2C in the NHL but no the franchise player. Saying that if we got the 1st Overall pick he wouldn't be a bad choice but I just wouldn't trade pieces to try to get him.
  14. If we are trading Kesler & Edler together. It's most likely going to be for at least this package Schenn/Couts - Simmonds/Voracek - Laughton/Hagg + 1st or 2nd round pick and Meszaros for cap reasons. I would do any combination of that deal. I prefer Couts over Schenn but that likely means we won't get Voracek. To me its either Couts & Simmonds or Schenn & Voracek as the starting point.
  15. FML guess this year we can chalk up to injuries....Think we are a playoff team if healthy and a bubble team with the amount of injuries. Say we ride out this year with what we have and see where we end up....no need for additions unless its helps the team long term. Great opportunity in the summer with the cap going up and young player developing further.
  16. Watching Daniel play pre-olympic was so frustrating....the guy refuses to go to the front of the net....he would pass off down to Herink behind the net and then just stay on the boards or go to the blue line....when Daniel is on top of his game he is darting in and out of the slot and then uses the accurate shot to score after Henrik gives him the perfect pass. If you watch his lone goal from the olympics you will notice he goes to the wall but then circles back around to the net and score form a good pass from Erickson or Backstrom. Hope he continues to do that after is gets back. I don't know what it is, whether he is injured or just physically drained but he doesn't look the same. When someone just stays to the perimeter you can tell they don't have the energy to fit for those good positions.
  17. Thank you someone with actual knowledge of how Weiss played....he did have some offensive ability for a 4th line guy but man he made some horrible plays in the D Zone....see Chicago game for most recent...the guys can't get the puck out along the wall in the D zone if his life depended upon it.
  18. Watching Edler and Bieksa F'UP time after time is starting to get real old.....When you have 2 of your top 4 Dmen have brain farts one after another its going to cost you on the score sheet. You can only have 1 risky Dmen on the team which means one of them has to go. You look at Anaheim's D not spectacular but consistent. Also I don't have the stats but seems like our PK has gone downhill since Edler has come back not sure if he is on for PPGA but yesterday's one just showed it might be possible. He make horrible reads and is not quick enough to recover. Just hoping we win enough to get into the playoffs and get healthy by then. Don't even care how far they make it because its really about the next 3-4 years with some minor changes and youth addition.
  19. I don't understand why we don't keep Kesler on the point for PP and work Hank of the left board. It's worked well in the past but we keep going back to Kes in front of the net. Regardless of this change we need Sedins to crash the net once the shot is taken. We can't expect to score when 4/5 players on the ice are no where near the net. GET YOUR ASS TO THE NET DANIEL.
  20. TEAM Radio ‏@TEAM10401h MT @BradZiemer: Lots of talk about Henrik's "hand" injury. More specifically, it's a finger.Fitted with a splint earlier this week. #Canucks Update on Hank's "hand" injury. I don't know much about finger injury. Can anyone comment on whether or not it can heal while he is still playing?
  21. Daniel Sedin pisses me off when he stays at the blue line in the offensive zone when our D are already there passing back and forth. For god sakes get your ass in front of the net for a deflection or a rebound. I have noticed this few times, understand he is trying to circle and get open but once he reaches the blue line he just stays there expecting a pass from our D.
  22. Thanks for the corrections (not being sarcastic). Though it doesn't really change the fact that his numbers are still bad. Note for 12/13 his GAA drops from 3 to 2.57 only because he played in relief for Cory in Game 4 otherwise for the 2 starts he had its still 3.
  23. That's true but his overall SCF series stats don't lie...they are not of a elite goalie or even a consistently good goalie. I don't blame the SCF loss completely on LU or even the team for lack of scoring...we just had too many injures. What bothers me the most is the way Lu looked in that loss. All his inconsistencies came back to light. If we lost the SCF with Lu playing consistent no blow outs people would forget the previous 2 years of meltdowns but he just proved with that series as much as he possible of playing AMAZING it is equally possible he can play HORRENDOUS. That is not a making of a good goalie. Also say I take out 10/11 out of the above equation it still shows he has performed bad in the other 4 years. The only reason people (including me) liked Cory over LU is because he was consistently able to hold teams to around 2 goals a game which is what you need in the playoffs. Can Lu provide that when he is hot, definitely but you can say that about any other goalie. What makes elite/great goaltenders different is they can hit that peak performance on a consistent basis vs an average goalie is. Lu hasn't' shown that during the playoffs.
  24. I was a avid Lu fan the first year he came here when he was TRULY ELITE..he continued his dominance even though we missed the playoffs next year but ever since then he has gone down hill...especially in the playoffs. I think he can still be a top 10 regular season goalie there is no doubt about that but Playoffs is a completely different story for him. If you truly want to see how he does in the playoffs check his series eliminating stats. 08/09 - 3.83GAA vs Chicago in 2nd round - 7GA in game 6 elimination match 09/10 - 3.83GAA vs Chicago in 2nd round - 5GA in game 6 elimination match 10/11 - 3.29GAA vs Boston in the Finals - 4GA in game 7 elimination match 11/12 - 4GAA vs LA in 1st round - Played only 2 games - For comparison Cory 1.33GAA in 3 games 12/13 - 3GAA vs San Jose in 1st round - Played 2 games - Cory 4.5GAA in 2 games (though everyone knows he shouldn't have played) I don't think the LA & San Jose elimination where on him but he definitely wasn't ELITE. He was at best good/average. So the question is can we win with good/average goaltending. I think maybe as long he doesn't have meltdowns. At this stage in his career I just want him to provide consistent goaltending. I can see why he is not on that list. One he has had a steady decline from Elite status due to his playoff performance and two I think him being a back-up last year he has to prove all over again if he should be in discussion of top 10-15 goalies in the NHL. I think he is going to have a great regular season maybe even the Olympics but I just don't have any faith in him come playoff time. This is based on 5 years of what he has shown. Though I would love nothing more then him to shove that in my face and be the star of the playoffs. I don't even care if we lose as long as Lu plays out of this world.
