  1. Jim and Larry Playfair who weren't exactly known for their Fairplay.
  2. After 18 months I FINALLY have my fire hall pager! I'm a provisional member right now filling in for injuries, but I should have it for at least a month (we have to wait before actual positions on the department are available before we can become full members) Have responded 3 times and only on the truck once. Seems to be the name of the game, race to try and get 1st truck then potentially sitting in the 2nd truck waiting to go or be stood down. Such a rush when the pager goes off and have to head to the hall!
  3. Anyone still hustlin' CSGO? GN1 looking to que up with some Nucks fans.
  4. I have made my way back to playing some CSGO on the PC. Computer still handles it well, i'm definitely nowhere near the player I was years ago. I've been having fun just doing solo que competitive. I do not miss how toxic the community can be, which i'm sure is just like any online community. I'm only a Gold Nova 1 right now, close to ranking up to GN2. If there is anyone in the Silver/GN range that wants to que up, I'm a solid player with a 'hit or miss' shot from game to game!
  5. I neglected to start on Assignment 3 for my English class to try and get notes caught up for Psychology. I have to write a research proposal and annotated bibliography. Was thinking about doing it on Restorative Justice but coming up with a thesis statement for me is like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube.
  6. Do it, man. I wasted a lot of years thinking what I was doing what 'right' *Narrator* It wasn't. Mid 30's, back in school, working part-time. You feel slightly like Benjamin Button aging backwards, but there is a weird feeling of satisfaction that I now have total control of what my future holds (from a career standpoint). Nobody puts baby in a corner. Arrested Development + 2 movie references in 1 post. Today is going to be a good day. Wait a second, this isn't the post when you're high thread --------------->
  7. Some more praise for Arvid Costmar. Could he be a diamond in the rough? What a solid season! https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/vancouver-canucks-prospects-update/c-315101022 "Arvid Costmar has been on fire in the SuperElit league. Since our last update, he has played in two games and scored three goals and two assists in that time. He is now up to twenty-one goals and twenty assists in twenty-four games with Linkoping HC J20 and has eleven more points than the second leading scorer on his team despite player 12 fewer games. His 1.71 points per game is tied for the best point-per-game rate in the SuperElit."
  8. Who knows, he might feel that the 'new' NHL defenseman is all about that first pass. If you have a D man who can snap the puck up in quick transition, that's half the battle. Maybe he just wants time and space taken away and to force turnovers. The canucks have the speed and forecheck, but sometimes doesn't seem like it's consistent (which game in game out, consistency for all teams is pretty tough unless you're the '76 Habs or something). Green seems to trust that this offense can score in bunches, the D is more reliable than he thinks, and Marky is an animal (Fact). Disclaimer: I was just a bum defensive systems Junior Coach, these guys know way more than I do and i'm sure there is plenty of rhyme or reason for what they do based on their specific personnel.
  9. Exaclty, when I was with teams that ran 2-1-2, we always instructed X2 to hang around 'home base' mostly around the far post, so he is in position to put pressure in the opposite corner for D to D, or to pop back out front in case X1 gets a stick on the pass, causes a turnover, or a poor pass to a curling C ends up out front.
  10. There needs to be pressure put on the puck carrier. It's not lacrosse or basketball where you give up possession and drop into a zone defense. X3 needs to stay high in order to be on the back check. If the D doesn't have FWD's backchecking, they are unable to gap up because it could cause a 2 on 1 coming in over the blueline, which happens a lot to guys like Myers who try to take away time and space at the blue line, just to have the opponent pass the puck over to his winger and create a 2 on 1 from top of circles in. If teams are going to forecheck, they need to still get back and put pressure in the neutral zone. It's not so much a systems error but the game being won or lost in the neutral zone, the Canucks need to be tighter checking and harder on the backcheck. I personally used to run the 1-2-2 because it is a really nice way to create turnovers using the '10 foot rule' on either side of the blueline, creating or having turnovers within the 10 foot rule is crucial. Plus, when you have the 2nd forward high as well, you have that much more support in the neutral zone. But hey, it's Green's team and if the Canucks make the playoffs, he might have to adapt because you can't constantly give free passes in the middle of the ice.
  11. It's just a 2-1-2 forecheck. X1 pressures puck carrier to force a play/pass, X2 is moving into a passing lane or to pressure puck carrier outlet, and X3 stays high on strong side to get any clear attempts up the wall if X2 has taken away the low option.
  12. I'm the same way with the Comox Valley. It's weird here. People constantly complain about 'outsiders' for which they honestly believe ALL of the cities problems with theft, vandalism, and 'traffic' as everyone from the mainland moving to their once prized secret location of Vancouver Island! It is actually quite annoying. I always just feel like a guest here. I have friends here, but not 'real' friends. The type of friends who text to ask if I want to go golfing 15 minutes before a tee-off time because their 4th bailed last minute. Friends who talk about their old highschool days because they are all still buddies and never actually left, but have also never asked me anything personal about my life nor do they really know me. I've become the guy who always says no and finds an excuse. Everything is the same, meet at the same 1 or 2 peoples houses, they all want to get super drunk and talk about the same boring crap. Now, most of us are getting to the age where it seems like 1 couple has a kid and they all start getting pregnant and having kids. I'm not having kids, so I don't fit in with the 'new parent' group, so i've lost some friends there, because once they all start having kids at the same time, it just becomes play dates, sharing new parenting inspirational memes on facebook, and selling essential oils or skin care products. It's so beautiful to live here, but the people are a little too territorial? or proud? not sure of the word, almost condescending because they grew up here and were here 'first'....except not really, because white. Thursday morning coffee confessions rant, over. Sorry for quoting your post with this follow up, @Psylocke hahaha!
  13. Me thinks Kirby Dach is going to be hard to play against for years to come.
  14. That Tyson guy was recently a radio jockey here in Courtenay, didn't realize that's where he ended up.
  15. Man, I LOVE Gaudette. I hope this guy is our 3rd/2B Center for years to come. Look at how jacked he is when he scores goals. Guy who plays the game the right way. WOOOOOOOOO!
  16. Anybody else get as heated as I do when people refer to the Sedins as The Sisters? Some of the comments on the NHL twitter feeds when they announced the jersey retirement were rage inducing. Maybe I need an internet break...or a beer!
  17. Note: Tags are mandatory only in the Trades, Rumours, Signings forum and in the Proposals and Armchair GM'ing forum.
  18. Marky was incredible. Entertaining game, guys and gals! See ya Wednesday!
  19. Random Markus Naslund factoid. He had 24 points (13-11) in the 1993 World Juniors in only 7 games. He also added 33 PIMs in those 7 games.
  20. Thank you, Miller! Need as many as we can get, our D is getting exposed.
  21. Is the timing accurate? If you move too fast does it still pick it up?
  22. I have still never tried VR. I'm on fire recruit training with a younger guy who plays on some sort of team in a tactical/military style game that is 5 vs 5. They show up at the local VR place here to practice and play their matches. It sounds like a blast and I really think I need to take a crack at it.
  23. Ask ANY player in the CFL and they would say 3 down ball is a joke. They head north for a paycheck but not a single player in the CFL would prefer 3 down over 4 down football. I think Alberta, Saskatchewan, and maybe Manitoba play 3 down, that's it.
