  1. Pffffft! Green is sitting him because he has too many vets to manage and Virtanen is paying the price. Also because we got a win and he didn't want to change the lineup. Telling him he needs to get more hits is an excuse. Hopefully this BS doesn't confuse Jake too much. We've got to stop messing with this Kid and let him play. He was going play for play with Boeser in the preseason. Give him some rope. Once again Jake is being held to a different standard than his teammates. There is no lack of players who could take a turn in the press box. It's Jake time!
  2. Guby. Oh, Guby! I want so much to like this player's game. But he is struggling to be average. Unfortunately it usually isn't good to watch a player's game under a microscope (like Bieksa some years, and Sbisa). But once I start doing it I have a hard time not focusing on all the little things in said player's game. Guby is not the player I want him to be. And that sucks. He is big. He can deal with bigger, slower players, like Lucic, on nights when that is needed. How important is that? Very. How much do you need to pay a guy to play that role? It depends what else he can do. What else can Guby do? Come on, Gubester! Play some power hockey, lock down your defensive game, and truly become useful to your team. Or...???
  3. Dang it! I wasn't whipping on Louie so he'd get hurt. I was whipping on him to get going. Now I feel bad. Curses! lol
  4. We gave Eriksson a year to get his butt in gear. Hardly anyone said anything. That is patience. I think he's had more leash than almost any Canuck player ever. But the time for that is past. As much as the Canucks are paying that guy he deserves a wakeup call. Maybe we let him off easy last year and he now believes he can float through the next 5 years of his contract. It sure looked like he quit on himself last year. For sure he is the new whipping boy and it is entirely fair. You don't get paid the big bucks in a Canadian market without getting the intense scrutiny as well. I don't think it is unfair to say he's been a Gigantic Disappointment. So much so that no one even knows what to expect. Can he still score in the NHL? As a Canuck fan I hope for a lot of things. Sometimes all it seems I have is hope. I'm sick of hoping Louie Eriksson can do more than just piddle along on the third line. I'm tired of hoping he's not a total waste of time. This team has too many other things to worry about. To have to worry about Eriksson actually being the player he's being paid to be is disheartening. Prove me wrong Louie...please...you've only got five years. FFS!
  5. Eriksson. Sheesh! J-Pat and Botchford were talking about how no one is/was speaking about Louie Eriksson. I honestly think that after last year we are all holding our collective breath, hoping that this guy does SOMETHING this year. But the fans won't be holding their breath for long. The contract is looking so bad, and Eriksson is looking, well like Eriksson. We can't trade him and no one would want him. The years of uselessness disappear into the fog of the future. WTF? What I really don't like is that he has taken no ownership of the team, doesn't hold up his end of the bargain by doing interviews, and is showing zippo leadership in that direction. When the Sedins retire (possibly next year) he is our highest paid player. He's been a ghost since he arrived. That can't continue. Seriously, get it together Louie! At this point MDZ seems like more of a Canuck than Eriksson. And he's only been here two months.
  6. I am super stoked we didn't lose Gaunce to Vegas. He had a perfect storm year to avoid being plucked in the expansion draft. Played all year, was dangerous but had no puck luck, then hurt his shoulder and had surgery. If he had had a great year he'd be gone. Anyway, I've been a fan of Gaunce since we drafted him, I watched him at the young stars tourney way back. He has always had intelligence, solid skills and a good work ethic. He should have been on the team two years ago instead of Cracknell, and outplayed him in preseason. Then he went back and killed it with Green in Utica playing all three forward positions. Green already knows what Gaunce can do and I predict he's going to have his best year yet!
  7. That thing where a guy that shouldn't even be on the team plays for the Canucks all year and gets given prime ice time he doesn't deserve and didn't earn.
  8. Rarely has a signing of a free agent worked out for us. Eriksson has been a non factor. Definitely not what I was hoping. Maybe he'll be better next year? But, how are we not trying everything in our power to keep Hansen, including trading Eriksson. I guess we can't move Louie because he got the bulletproof contract for 6 freakin' years. Stupid...stupid...stupid!
  9. Love it. This guy is a boss!
  10. "Big Bedroom Community" "Suburban Sniper" lol
  11. Big Country? Really? The nickname of one of Vancouver sport's biggest disappointments. Plus, Virtanen ain't no country boy, he's from Vancouver. How about "Big City"? now we're talking.
  12. It's a tough question. The Detroit model would send him down. We're deep with forward vets. While he is useful to us, we don't need him right now. This is a very critical time in his development. If he goes back to Junior and uses the opportunity to get even better, like some of his peers, it would be the most prudent thing to do. But He has shown flashes of offensive prowess already at the NHL level, like the wraparound last night, and maybe he's only a bounce or two away from contributing more consistently. I'm sure Bo feels that way. How would he feel if he was sent back to Junior? As a fan, of course I'd like to see him all year. What to do?
  13. He's a true #1 goalie in the NHL, bonafide! How often do franchise goalies like Miller become available? How old is Tim Thomas? If we can pick up Miller at a reasonable rate and term, we'd be nuts not to do it. It won't take long to get tired of our young Swedes if they don't cut it. We've been spoiled with great goaltending around here for a long time.
  14. I just can't get over the Ritchie hilights. The kid is a huge talent. Heads up player, likes to use his size. To me he looks better than Virtanen.
  15. This is a great day for my Canucks! My favourite player is now trading the "C" for the "P"! I'm a Canuck fan to the core, no matter who's in charge, or on the team. I was supportive of Gillis, I even believed Torts might work out. Bringing Trevor Linden back has changed my mindset from "WTF?" to "Oh, Hell Yeah!" Because I honestly believe there is nothing he can't do. What can I say? He's my HERO and I couldn't be happier! It's like putting Superman in charge!
  16. Luongo is my favourite goalie, all time! That said. This is a breath of fresh air for everyone. Thank gawd it's over. I'm super happy Luongo got his wish to return to Florida and his family. It's a dang travesty how the best goalie the Canucks have ever had got jerked around so hard in his tenure here. I hope he realizes that a tonne of fans wanted him to retire a Canuck. Markstrom and Matthias...Sweet!
  17. As a fan, I just want to see some normalcy coming from my team. Seriously. This year is nearly a write-off anyway. Can we just have our fan favourite, Luongo, in the Winter Classic? Why does everything have to be such a travesty with this team?
  18. Gillis says he isn't going to panic and start trading all his players. Injuries...the cap...blah blah blah! These players have been on a steady decline since their Stanley Cup final appearance. While it would have been crazy to blow up the team without giving them another chance, they have been in need of an overhaul for a very long time. This isn't the first time this team, with these players, has done this. Implying that this current slump is an aberation and not part of an ongoing, and ingrained, pattern for this team is ignoring a lot of flashing, warning signs. Of course Gillis has to say what he said. He has no choice. There really is nothing he can do this season. The point is, the present problems were birthed long before this season. Yes injuries and streakiness play into it, but this team as presently constructed, just does not have the necessary players, or inspiration to withstand any kind of emergency. They NEED someone, anyone, to take the scoring pressure of the Sedins. This is not a new problem. He wasted the last two years focussing on fixing his goaltending, a place where the team had no issues, instead of getting his team help when and where it was really needed. Gillis has been standing pat for so long he's rooted in place. If a GM doesn't make the hard decisions at the right time, the decisions get harder and harder, until someone else is making the decisions for them. This season may be a write-off, but that doesn't excuse Gillis' part in making it that way!
  19. I liked me some Dale Weise! So long, Weisee! "The Dutch Gretzky is Dead! Long live the Swiss Gretzky!" Diaz looks like he could help us.
  20. Until Colin Campbell and his cronies are gone, there can be no faith in the league rules, referees, or the process of "going upstairs" to the war room. Campbell was outright caught sending emails to the head ref to lay off his son, calling Savard a diver, etc. Forget about the lack of class and basic intelligence. This just stinks. Oh...his son was on the Boston team that won. He stepped aside...I think in the playoffs... and handed over his duties to his best friend, and then brought in Shanahan to be the new voice. The Canucks then proceeded to get fed a boatload of baloney. The Rome suspension. Marchand being allowed to punch Daniel in the face 10 times and Danny gets the penalty? Everytime there's a call on a goal that could go against us it does. Danny's kick in... And how could we forget the Burrows/Auger(sp?) incident? The ref was so arrogant and sure of himself he told Burrows he was going to get him and he did. Burrows couldn't believe it, said something to the press, and the Canucks have been paying ever since. Reinforced by the crap games called against us in the last month. And...the refereeing has gone downhill since the cup final. The rules and the way they are enforced are so subjective that there is plausible deniability by the NHL in every situation. True fans know what we're watching: poor refereeing, games being managed/mismanaged. It saps a fans energy. It really does. For the first time ever, I find myself disinterested in the NHL...a sure sign that something stinks at the very core of this game. Frustrated fan? You better believe it!
  21. Man, what a dog and pony show the refs are running these days. Stop throwing everybody out of the games already. I'm trying to watch hockey. Or what passes for that in the NHL presently. Go Torts, it's great to have a coach that ain't gonn take it!
  22. Gillis has done plenty for the team, mostly good, but sometimes he made mistakes. But...what does he do now? We need an infusion of energy on this team. The West is rough. Tortorella (I think we can agree) might have ridden his star players too hard in the first half of the season. The teams ahead of us have a few more horses, even when we're healthy. The low cap is handcuffing us, and everyone else. If Gillis can make an effective move in this current NHL climate...he'll be back on the path to good times. If not, well...it's going to be an interesting season.
  23. The Vancouver media is ridiculous: "Wow the sky is blue what a great day!" (A cloud rolls by) "Oh my God, the sky is falling!" Sheesh! I am a Kassian fan. But he was skating around with his head up his dumpster, kinda clueless, but trying hard. He deserved to be benched. So then he has ONE so-so game where he doesn't make any bonehead plays, and the media starts shoveling this story at us. Come on! I was a huge Hodgson fan. But he is gone. Even if Kassian only ever becomes a fourth line fighter with a touch of skill...he is still a player we need on this team. SIZE! He is young, he's going to improve, and I hope Gillis keeps him around. I would say trading Hodgson was "a disappointment". But Kassian is younger, a different player, and needs more time to develop. At this point he is a prospect with a ton of upside.
  24. Gallagher's article has the sky falling. No team can know how their draft picks will turn out. Ours stand as good a chance as any. Kassian, Gaunce,Jensen, Connauton. We're doing all right. Tony, MG has been busy winning President's trophies and challenging for the cup. Our prospect base reflects this. The REASON Schultz didn't choose Vancouver is because MG wouldn't guarantee him ice time, as no self respecting franchise would, or should. Schultz, like anyone in any industry anywhere, needs to pay his dues. He wants to play in the NHLright now. Detroit and Vancouver develop their kids in Junior, like it should be done. The future is bright for Vancouver...three years...most of our core will just have turned 30. The Sedins will be 34. Ridiculous, Tony.
