    Lawyer in me has come up with a new idea to weaponize cap space. If team X wants to sign, say, Panarin for a cap hit of 8m whilst Panarin still gets paid 12m AAV, team X can agree with team Y to sign Panarin at 12m AAV, then trade him immediately upon signing whilst retaining 4m, for some form of consideration. Technically legal. But way too ballsy.

      the issue will be cap circumvention

      it is not a friend of bettman

      if he views a transaction as being framed to accomplish cap circumvention

      he'll bring out the big guns and luongo the teams
