What's the hardest exam you've ever had to write?

I took the timber scaling course and exam this spring out of Nelson. 90% certain 100% roughly 60 of us failed. Several of my cohort who did worse than I took the same test in burns lake and passed. Pretty un impressed thankfully it was just an add on for what I do and my livelihood wasn't depending on it.

Random thought: Kadri for Tanev and Sutter?

@Fateless sure, doesn't change how your other arguments were poorly thought out. Also your dismissive and idiotic comment about weed not being legal.
Loui Eriksson was 31 when he signed his contract and his slower style of game wasn't a fit. That's not a good analogy. That and being 6 million bucks a year for 6 years knowing you can't be moved. Kadri is no Eriksson so I just don't get why you're pushing that so hard to crap on him. Kadri is a decent player who has wheels and Christ, as I pointed out, Kadri isn't scoring only because of his line mates. Nor am I suggesting we ship out Dahlen for Kadri. How does it help? Grit, toughness, scoring? All three things everyone was complaining about last year. Oh man.
I'm not even that invested in the idea, I'm just completely baffled by how blind and biased some Canuck fans are.
Not even going to comment on Pettersson. If you watched the World Championships you'd know he's a player. Already creative than Backlund. Won't be a super star next season, but he'll be a heck of a player.
-
@NHL'er - The pot comment was clearly a joke. I apologize for your feelings getting hurt.
Its not about being biased towards Kadri. He's a good player. He just doesn't fit on this team (in relation to how much we'd be giving up to acquire him). He's going to be a productive player for another 3-5 years. The problem is that by the time our team is contending for a cup, he won't be productive anymore. 27 isn't old, but its too old for the core that our team is building. By the time Pettersson is in his prime (24 years old), Kadri will be 32(?) and well past his prime. Then Kadri is just taking up roster space and likely on an overpaid contract (assuming he plays as well as you think he will for the next few years and Benning hands out his usual bloated contract extension) while we're trying to load up the team with complementary pieces.
I stand by my Eriksson example. No one thought he was going to regress the way he has. He'd just come off his best scoring season in his career. He met the criteria you're claiming we want Kadri for (grit, toughness, and scoring). Yes I know that he was further along in his aging curve and had a higher risk of regression, but my point is that the aging curve isn't an exact science and the further Kadri gets along that curve, the more likely the bottom falls out of his career.
Not to mention he's like to have a career ending injury over the next season or two considering how much he's disliked - particularly if he puts on a Vancouver Canucks jersey. Then we REALLY wasted Tanev and Sutter.

How do you guys get out of a rut?

Would you trade Gudbranson back for McCann right now?

Anyone with awkward roommate situations in the past? How did you resolve it?

@JM_ na I'm at a point in life where I'm earning enough money I'll just take the hit and move into a boujee new place myself. She was the kind of roommate who probably wouldn't have gotten me meds if I got seriously sick.

@NHL'er was this a girlfriend that was your roommate or a friend that was your roommate?

Would you do Tanev, Baerstchi and our 2018 First (Non-Dahlin) for Sam Reinhart?
- Show previous comments 16 more

Sam isn't going to be a 1C. I love Sam and I will always cheer for him there is no other player I have followed so intensely and for so long.
His development hasn't gone the way a lot of people thought it would. He won't be that perrenial 70+ point center. He's more than likely going to stay as a wing and be a 55-65 point player. I could see 70+ as a career high.

How can the Wild be so competitive yet still have so many good prospects?

Outcasts?
Buttman gives them a sweetheart deal in the draft, and in addition allows Vegas to do side deals so instead of taking good players that were available, they allow them to do side deals.
The only outcasts in Vegas is the GM and their coach. The coach was fired by their stupid GM in Florida.
The GM was fired because he made a boneheaded deal with Nashville.
There's no outcasts. That's all media spewing garbage on an NHL spin.
This is not Columbus/Minnesota type expansion where they got 4th line plugs and are on some plucky luck with a former 1st overall goaltender.....
-
Just coming to realise just how atrocious MG's drafting was. Even taking into account that we were contenders during that time. So glad we have JB

Problem is for a while we were never the worst team in the league, just meh. This was before there was a lottery for the 1st round (where finishing dead last meant you did get the first overall pick). Could mean the difference between getting a guy like Gilbert Perrault instead of Dale Tallon. Look how the Pens got Lemieux, Crosby, and Malkin.
-
@NewbieCanuckFan I don't buy that. If you suck at drafting and developing you find a way to suck: Nugent Hopkins, Yakupov.
-
Suck at developing? Schneider didn't suddenly get better after being traded to New Jersey. Sedins didn't become Art Ross winners overnight nor Kesler a Selke winner immediately. Gillis was lucky he inherited a good coach. Who heard of Bieksa before he became a legit top 4 guy or Tanev. A shame Gillis couldn't draft well to sustain the teams success.

If you meet a cute Aussie gal from travelling Europe but she'll literally be a world aways soon, what would you do?

@Agoork solid advice, thanks! And thanks rest of CDC ahaha especially @debluvscanucks
-
I was actually in the same boat. Met a girl from Denmark in the Caribbean and we only had a week together before she went back home. After keeping in touch, I flew to Europe to see her 6 months later - was only supposed to stay a week, but extended it to 2 weeks, we fell in love, then shortly after, spent the summer together camping and travelling around BC and Alberfta, and fate was sealed. I married her overlooking Bow Falls in Banff, and we now have 2 teenage kids.

Bring back Vanek next year? Yay or nay?

One decent forward UFA please.
Kane at the high end of acceptable, Bozak, Vanek, but only one. No probs for some PTO's in case the young guys ain't ready. Wont panic if a Gaudette, Juolevi or Dahlen starts in Utica. They should play a fair bit in the bigs.
Utica should be pretty good? Lind, Jasek, Brisbois, Brassard, Sautner, Palmu, Gadjovich, maybe Dahlen etc. Weak at C? Unless EP & Gaudette play there??

Brock probably won't win ROY but Petterson sure as heck will. And probably MVP too.
EDIT: IN THE SHL THIS SEASON.

@J-23Why? The Canucks are almost as bad as the Sabres!
-
I think he'll do well in his career. I just don't want the Sabres to rush him into the lineup and burn a year off of his contract. The Sabres aren't a playoff team and won't be for another 2-3 years at the least unfortunately. It all depends on how quickly Jason Botterill can build up a decent roster.
-
Here's how I see it: We paid nothing for Vanek and Holm ergo Benning got us Leipsic and Motte for free. That's a win in my books

@zzbottom who are you addressing?
-
@zzbottom - I'm not sure how I'm being hyperbolic. Perhaps my opinion of a good draft is overstated because of our franchises historically terrible at drafting, but Benning has been very good so far based on how our prospects are projecting.
Boeser has been fantastic. Tryamkin has been fantastic (issues with him not returning are irrelevant to Jim's choice to draft him), Virtanen has been admittedly a bad pick. However, Benning picked Pettersson who has been shatting SHL records set by the Sedins and Peter Forsberg and hes outpacing William Nylander by a wide margin. Lind and Gadjovich are looking like steals based on their draft position. DiPietro and Demko are both doing very well for their draft positions.
Overall Benning has done great with the draft. Giving him more bullets in the chamber would only be a good thing for this team.
-
If he is still available at 33, would you use that pick on Jake Oettinger?

@smithers joe I actually rather enjoyed it. Would definitely eat it again but I'm not going to go out searching for it.

Would people be happy or disappointed if Juolevi turned out to be a replica of Olli Maata?

@coastal.view give Tanev the C just to make botchford shut up about trading him

Tony Gallagher is the most annoying and ill-informed man in sports broadcasting history.
- Show previous comments 9 more
-
Gallagher loves skill and he's grumpy when the Canucks aren't doing all they can to get skill. He was by far the happiest (well, happy for Gallagher anyway) when the Sedin's and Vigneault were the Kings of Vancouver. He has high expectations and a realist, which can come off as being anti-Canuck, but if you know that slant going in, he doesn't seem so doom and gloom.
-
tony had a grudge against pat quinn. he used his column to attack quinn. every column. one game, the canucks won like 7 to 1. tony's column said the canucks played well, and then added in, no thanks to pat quinn. when pat died, tony wrote, i don't know why it took me so long to like him. i always thought the province should fire him for that but maybe he sold papers. i quit buying the rag.

LOL just heard GM JB call Byfuglien on the radio “Be-foog-Len”. Love him even more now.

Would you do Kuemper and Dahlin for Dumba in fantasy?
-
In your opinion, was Brendan Morrison a first line centre in his prime?
-
Jake and EP may eventually be great together. Jake has strength, speed, physicality that EP "lacks". EP has the IQ, playmaking, dangles that Jake "lacks".

Sutter was 6th on the team in goals last year (including Vanek), while playing hard minutes in a shutdown role despite missing 20 games. He was also one of our few + players. He is far from the offensive black hole you portray him as. LE wasn't far behind and wasn't a minus player either. These guys won't create a ton of offense but they won't drag a line down due to their presence.
-
Yost thinks Tkachuk and Dahlin actually have a chance at the Calder. What a joke. Just on entertainment alone Pettersson wins by a wide margin.

Coming back to Vancouver after 2 years locked away in England. What’s changed? How’s the mask situation?

Would you trade Tanev and Tryamkin for Drouin?
- Show previous comments 7 more
-
More like straight-up or no dice.
Stevie Y will be in a bind financially, needing to re-sign him, Palat and Johnson (all R.F.A.'s) and media are already reporting that either Johnson or Drouin would be dangled as trade bait if things get tight money-wise (they can move Johnson with Brayden Point's emergence). If they want to patch up that right-side defense they better be willing to offer Drouin straight-up for Tanev. No to adding Tree.
