  1. A 2nd round draft pick might be fair market value, but I don't see the point of trading a young goalie with promise for a pick that could mean nothing?
  2. It's just one or two guys really, a lot of people including me are pissed. Moves like this validate Burrows at 4m. Vrbata, Bonino and maybe Hamhuis are our only cost effective players at this point.
  3. Maybe, but in that case would you not be more excited to over spent on a FA this summer?
  4. Just cuz you have more money to spend does NOT mean you offer it to the first players that ask. These new contracts have just been TERRIBLE, including Tanev's. Don't you find it strange how you have to defend all these contracts with the Cap is going up, if you look at "ADVANCED stats"... if they continue at their current pace of improvement, 2 years from now they'll be worth their contracts, and (my favourite) JB must know someone is getting moved? People getting moved and more cap money should be spent on signing another Vrbata to replace Higgins on the second line, not solidify Higgins' position on the second line by giving the money to 4th liners and fringe 3rd pairing d-men.
  5. In Edmonton's case a trade is the best route probably. After a certain point, rookies cannot develop if all the other player are rookies. Last thing that team needs is another # 1 pick to displace the leadership hierarchy.
  6. Oilers can't suck forever...
  7. I mean yeah we have a weaker team thanks to Kesler's departure, where's the surprise. Hopefully in 3 years we will be back to contending for the cup. To those saying wait and see, it's too early... We have a very decent team, but it is NOWHERE close to SC contention, we have holes everywhere. The only thing we have going is our top line. The Penguins have been having problems getting to the SC finals...what is so special about our team? Really? Let's just enjoy some hockey! Watch the Leafs or the Canadiens this yr, they have better teams
  8. So by the looks of it, we get to trade a non-existent Schneider for a top 10 pick again this season? Decent pick-up the way the season has gone. Looks even better when you consider Calgary got some junk and a LATE pick for Iginla. Meanwhile we pick up 2 top 10 picks without intentionally tanking a season.
  9. Pretty sure if we finish with the 9th overall pick and get the 30th overall for Kesler, we could snag the 3rd or 4th overall, which is a pretty good deal.
  10. Realistically, best case scenario is we don't push for a PO spot and give some young guys some play time here. Really figure out what we have in Guance/Jensen/Corrado and then play the offseason well. Put Kesler with the Sedins Let the younger guys fill the rest.
  11. Yes, this is MG's plan. If Kes is traded for something nice and we draft top 10, we would basically have rebuilt in 1 season. Let Lack dig his feet in b/c he will be starter next yr, lets tank a bit more. It doesn't even matter if we trade up or not, this pick if top 10 is for the future and a mere bonus, it won't immediately help in the rebuild.
  12. "Exactly. Picks look nice but it's a long term solution and we don't replace even a portion of Kesler with it. Need a roster player young, prospect and pick " This Teams should just give up honestly
  13. Also there is nothing that you can really give up. To MG I'm thinking it would take a 2011 Cody Hodgson + prospect + 1st to get this done.
  14. Ooooh nice picks
