  1. They don't know the cause of the virus. They won't for a while. Because they're still working on stopping it. Could easily be a person from Wuhan who traveled on a previous Diamond Princess cruise. Could be from an area that isn't monitored like Syria or N. Korea. They won't know conclusively till much later.
  2. I was initially worried about the border crossing with Washington State but they've been doing a good job. There is a chance that their higher numbers vs other States is due to earlier detection. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/14/coronavirus-washington-state-us-outbreak
  3. Quick comparison: 193 confirmed cases in Canada. (1 death, 8 recovered) 64 in BC (1 death, 4 recovered) . 2134 confirmed case in the US (46 deaths, 12 recovered) 568 in Washington State (37 deaths, 1 recovered). source- https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6
  4. There seems to be 2 fights at the moment. With the virus. And with selfishness. Come on Canadians, "Remember I'm pulling for you, We're all in this together."
  5. Can't find a YT video but Rep. Katie Porter today got Dr. Redfield to promise covered testing every American even without insurance.
  6. A very simplistic comparison of between how the US and Canada are handling things today: Trudeau (Mr & Mrs) have tested and self-quarantined as recommended by health experts. Trump although confirmed direct contact with multiple people who have tested positive, doesn't feel he needs to get tested because he thinks knows better. Now think of the message this leadership by example sends to all citizens. I am very happy to be in Canada and not the US right now.
  7. Evangelicals aren't helping. Like in Korea. https://qz.com/1808390/religion-is-at-the-heart-of-koreas-coronavirus-outbreak/ Mike Pence, CDC director Robert Redfield, etc are all evangelicals. Nothing wrong with that. But many people are concerned that Faith was the primary criteria for the selection of the Coronavirus Task Force, not medical knowledge.
  8. Canada is actually doing comparatively well. https://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/could-canada-be-flattening-the-curve-of-coronavirus-cases/
  9. Travel ban on China? Cases in China are decreasing. Because they took it seriously. The only country that isn't taking it seriously is the USA. Where the President thinks he's a doctor, the Vice President thinks he can pray it away and half the population watches FOX news and thinks other sources are fake.
  10. This may sound obvious but some don't seem to understand very obvious things. The more the virus spreads the harder it is to control. Stopping the spread is paramount. They also don't know everything about the virus. Being cautious until we all know more is in the best interest of everyone. As the saying goes, better safe than sorry.
  11. The 2nd wave of the Spanish flu actually infected more younger people, 20-40. Theory is because younger people were in more contact with others. At hospital, train stations, etc... Especially those coming home from the war.
  12. A Utah Jazz player joked around with the press and touched all the mics thinking that was funny. He tested positive. (damn it I forgot, don't touch my face) https://www.nj.com/sports/2020/03/jazz-thunder-game-postponed-is-coronavirus-to-blame.html
  13. Simple but not so simple way to improve Canada is more urban centers. TO, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and more importantly the surrounding areas, suburbs are too concentrated. In the Amazon delivery, internet movie theater age we don't really need to be so close like we did in the past. The cold robotic logical way of solving this problem would be to "force" population growth in the least desirable places first and work backwards. Force population growth by pouring the maximum capital to the least desirable places first. #1 Create a "Marijuana" city. Middle on the country, Saskatchewan. Research centers, Universities, pharmaceuticals, etc....
  14. The more places I go the more I appreciate home. One of the things that makes me proud to be Canadian is - So I guess if I had one suggestion to make Canada great again, it's for more people to remember this. -------- Plus j'y vais, plus j'apprécie la maison. L'une des choses qui me rend fier d'être Canadien est ... * used Google translate to make official.
  15. This situation made me think, what if there was a measles outbreak here? Would the rest of the world just lump us all together and say it's because Canadians chose not to vaccinate their kids.
  16. It is racist by definition. Not necessarily of the offensive kind. But very unprofessional journalism. And should be called out. One of the biggest errors in history is attributing the Spanish Flu to Spain. Which resulted in greater spread of the disease due to misinformation.
  17. Americans are stupid suckers who want any excuse to go to war. They cheer as they watch their family and friends die. Then blame others so they can go to war again. Everything the US has done lately has helped ISIS.
  18. For Italian style I like Pizzeria Ludica. There's one near Rogers Arena and another in New West near the Skytrain. For North American style, I order Papa John's online. I find it super convenient. Not too greasy. Best I've had in the area, I'd go with Via Tevere Pizzeria on Victoria Dr. For slices, I like Pizza Garden.
  19. Claims to be Hindu and has on many occasions claimed “Hinduphobia” when asked about her religious past. But as documented by many publications and well known in Oahu, her mother (from Indiana not India) joined a Hare Krishna offshoot called The Science of Identity Foundation when Tusli Gabbard was a teenager. Her father (staunch catholic) is a well known politician, also questioned about ties to the cult. Her husband and several campaign advisers also have ties to the cult.
  20. China - Hong Kong situation is starting to feel like Russia - Crimea. While Trump and Boris Johnson are sucking up so much attention from the US/UK public and Intelligence. The timing is terrible. This really sucks for democracy. America and the UK need to get their heads in the game.
  21. When you join the Canadian Military, first they ask you if you shoot right of left? Then they ask you if your slap shot is as accurate as your wrist shot.
  22. A list of Russian arms sales in the news from July-Oct 2019. July - Turkey buys S400 missiles. Sept 9 - U.S. eyeing sanctions over Turkey's S-400 buy https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-turkey-sanctions/u-s-eyeing-sanctions-over-turkeys-s-400-buy-mnuchin-idUSKCN1VU1DF Sept 9 - India to receive delivery of S-400 missiles within 18-19 months https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/s400-missiles-delivery-india-within-18-19-months-1597023-2019-09-09 Sept 16 - Russia has offered to sell Saudi Arabia the same missile defense it sold Iran and Turkey after U.S. systems failed to detect or intercept a recent attack on key oil sites in the kingdom. https://www.newsweek.com/russia-saudi-missiles-same-iran-1459510 Oct. 4 - Speaking at an international affairs conference in Moscow on Thursday, Putin said Russia had been helping China develop such a system. He added that “this is a very serious thing that will radically enhance China’s defence capability”. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/oct/04/russia-is-helping-china-build-a-missile-defence-system-putin-says
  23. So if the purpose of the protest was to get people talking. I guess it can be considered a success. Ironically due in large part to people like some in this thread still mad about it a day after.
  24. Uncharacteristic short sighted move by China in my opinion. This will set an international precedent where comments by private citizens or businesses can be used for political retaliation. China naively thinks they have complete control over all their citizens but as their economy grows greed will obviously override nationalism, if it hasn't already. It might work against the US today but other countries will now be able to use the same tactic against China as they expand to countries they do not control.
