  1. ? Points From A Guaranteed #4 Draft Pick.

We've already started tanking. Remember how, earlier this season, when we had an injury, we immediately went out and got and NHL'er (Dowd)? But, what happens when we get an injury now? Right, we call up an AHL'er instead.

Jesus, read the article. If you'd read the article, I wouldn't have to make you look so foolish! In this case, here is what NHL draft-picks are worth. You'll notice that first-round picks are worth way, way, WAY more than all the other rounds. An average first round pick is worth 2 to 3x a fourth, fifth or sixth round pick. So, when you are analyzing draft-value and you remove a player that was selected in the 1st round from your analysis (of a GM that only had 5 first-round picks), that's actually a tremendous amount of value. Especially when you consider the fact that the GM had no second-round picks for two years in a row and had a lot of picks in the later rounds. So, removing that one data-point ends up creating a huge difference in the numbers. For good reason. Which you'd know - if you actually bothered to read the article.

You clearly didn't read the article! Because it wasn't a margin of variance - it was with and without a specific trade (that was questionable to include). Posts like this (and abject homerism) are why I laughed at aGENT for using you as a source for 'reality'!

Isn't it funny how people have to resort to finding anything at all wrong with your comments (going so far as to look for spelling errors, grammatical errors and the like) - after you destroy their main argument? And, oh boy did you have to stretch here! My God, did I use the word 'we' to refer to our team??? The horror! The horror!

My references: direct quotes from Benning himself, the Vancouver Sun, Canucks Army and the CBC. Your references: oldnews (twice) Ummm, OK then...

Isn't it funny how people always resort to personal-attacks when their arguments get utterly destroyed?

Benning would (and did). And, it's even worse than that. We got fined $50k for tampering because of it!

No, you have confirmation bias. For instance, you just said that Benning has been focused on the future. Well, someone just did an analysis about that - and found that Benning has traded away tons of value from his draft-picks. Rebuilding teams acquire draft-picks, they don't give away 20 to 46.7% of their value! So, tell me again how a GM who trades away massive amounts of draft-pick value (for veterans), tries to sign the most expensive players in the league, tries to trade their 5th overall pick, claims his team is good, and avoids saying the word 'rebuild' for 3 years is actually rebuilding!!!

Yes, you are right, these are totally the quotes of a GM who's rebuilding! /sarcasm EDIT: Oh, I should probably mention the fact that, 2 years ago, Benning tried to get PK Subban and mentioned his desire to sign Steve Stamkos - those are totally things a rebuilding team does!

I guess there's no point in arguing with someone who's willing to blatantly lie like that...

You are right, it's not the same scenario! Gillis got us two top-2 caliber defensemen literally out of thin-air (all it cost us was two prospects who had already busted). He didn't have the luxury of numerous top-6 picks. Benning, on the other hand, chose a defenseman with a top-5 draft-pick - who is currently getting healthy-scratched (two games in a row) in the freaking Liiga (then was placed on the bottom-pairing after he got back into the lineup)! And, he passed over the consensus pick (who is currently a star in the NHL). Oh, and Benning has also put together a defense with not a single top-2 caliber player on it. Very different scenarios. Gillis went out and got us what we needed - Benning has not.

    1. You argue that Benning was rebuilding from the start - then I provide direct quotes from Benning and the Vancouver Sun proving you incredibly wrong - and, all of a sudden, I'm not arguing facts??? It's just semantics? Utterly ludicrous! 2. We are currently in 28th place (and tanking) - and you think we've turned around??? Even more ludicrous!

You are forgetting Gillis brought in our #1 defenseman (Ehrhoff) for table-scraps - and flew to Sweden to sign the Sedins at the last minute when it looked like they were going to become free-agents. Oh yeah, and then he signed Dan Hamhuis (our #2 d-man). Then there was Mikael Samuelsson (who had 15 points in 12 playoff games his first year as a Canuck). And Manny Malholtra. And, we won't even mention Bo Horvat... Has Benning gotten us a #1 and a #2 defenseman? Or, is our defense abysmal right now with an equally abysmal prospect-pool?
  14. Benning Extended (Official)

No, you're the one fudging facts. Here's a Benning quote from almost 4 years ago: From the same article: Oh look, he didn't plan on rebuilding at all!

Gillis inherited a team that won 39 and lost 43.
