2018-19 Utica Comets Thread
Hafizzle replied to stonecoldstevebernier's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I wonder what Utica looks like without Demko... -
So so glad he decided to go back to Michigan. Definitely feel like it was the right decision and absolutely won't hurt him in the long run. Has anyone checked on Alf? He's probably devastated somewhere right now that Hughes won't become the best D man in the NHL this year

Vancouver is going to be such a let down for him in comparison.

I rarely post on CDC these days, but I religiously check this thread mostly for your updates Sid. Keep up the great work.

HAHAHA Rasmussen goes before Vilardi. Where are the guys who didn't think Vilardi would even make it to 5?? -
2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
Hafizzle replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I have a feeling Makar won't make it to 5. Just checked out McKenzie's list and saw that out of ten scouts surveyed, 1 had him going first overall and 7 of 10 had him going in the top 5. Apparently there are many scouts who believe that Makar might have the highest offensive ceiling of any of the players including Nico and Patrick which wouldn't be that surprising. I see it going Nico, Patrick, Heiskanen/Makar, Makar/Heiskanen...leaving Glass, Petterson or Vilardi for Vancouver. -

If JB doesn't feel like any of the centres available can project as more than a second line C, I would be quite happy with picking Makar. It would be a very gutsy move as Makar is the definition of high risk/high reward but man that would be a big move if he pans out. -

I'm hoping for one of Mittelstadt, Glass or Petterson in that order. On an unrelated note, I think Makar may end up being one of the best players from this draft so whoever has the balls to take the risk on him will have it pay off big time in 2-3 years. -

haha I know what you mean. I was trying to keep my post as neutral as I could so my feelings on Virtanen didn't come through. Don't want to derail this thread into a Virtanen one. -
2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
Hafizzle replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I personally think Virtanen was a safe pick as well. Especially compared to Ehlers and Nylander who everyone knew had higher ceilings but many thought they couldn't achieve it. Soft Swedish perimeter player and small player who lit up the Quebec league which everyone stated was a notoriously easy league to put up points. Virtanen in contrast was the lowest risk of those 3 especially because he had the tools to make it as a 3rd or 4th line player. -
It's interesting to see how Virtanen brings out such passion in people. There are some people who are trolling, but the delusional hopeful fans are even worse. I mean I don't think there's anything wrong in being disappointed with him right now. Will he ultimately become a bust? Maybe. Or maybe it'll take him a few more years and he may be able to put it all together and become an amazing player. Or perhaps he's destined to be a 3rd or 4th line energy player. Who knows. But it's annoying reading all these posts trying so hard to defend him that they're coming up with the craziest arguments. I'm looking at you guy who compared Jake's AHL points to Bo's points in 5 games coming off an injury. Quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've read in a long time. I thought Forsberg's post with all the players drafted in Jake's year was quite telling. It's hard to argue with stats especially when Jake's points per game are by far the lowest even taking defencemen into consideration. Yes, I get that the goal with Jake was to work on conditioning this year and not necessarily offence but it's still disappointing for a top pick. I don't think he was the BPA at 6 that year but he had a lot going for him: local boy, playing in the dub, size, speed, hitting and he was safe in that a lot of people compared him to Raffi Torres in that even if he couldn't put it all together he had a good chance of making it to the NHL in a diminished role. I'm not here to troll Jake though. I don't think he was BPA, but we picked him and I really do hope he can pull it all together. The kid definitely does have the tools so I don't think anyone can label him as a bust just yet.

Thanks guys. I've got about an even split of friends on Xbox and Ps4. I may just end up flipping a coin haha
-
Naturally when you want the Canucks to win against LA they never can, but when you want them to lose they go and win. Canucks will always find a way to frustrate the fans haha
-
I'm still torn on the decision between the xbox one and the PS4. No idea how to make my decision.
