Gonna need a celly competition at future superskills events. Lind and Gaudette will likely be the finalists. Who will take the title remains to be determined.
  2. Elias Pettersson | C/LW

He’s baaaack! Playing at 2RW today.
  3. Cole Cassels | C

He was around the same listed height and weight on the last couple training camp measurements (including the “staff only” one that got leaked in 2016-17). Maybe he’s bulked up a bit this year but I don’t imagine he’s all that much bigger now.

I didn’t even notice McKenzie picked up another assist on the OT winner. Wasn’t a standout play at the time, but looking at the highlights, he made a nice pass the length of the red line to a streaking Phillips who was able to skate in easily and get off shot from the high slot that just trickled through for the winner. His other assist (also a primary) came on Owen Sound’s 4th goal where he made a power move to the the net that created a rebound that Sushko quickly backhanded in off of a defender’s skate. McKenzie hasn’t quite had the numbers I hoped he’d have post-trade (I believe he has 16 points in 22 games with OS), but he’s still contributing at both ends, playing a heavy game, good defense, taking lots of draws, and putting up around 4 shots on goal a game. Not sure he’s doing enough to earn a contract unfortunately. Maybe a strong season finish and big playoff performance could still get him a chance at a deal, but it looks like a long shot.
  5. Elias Pettersson | C/LW

The long wait is nearly over!
  6. Adam Gaudette | C

He obviously would have gone to the Olympics and been honoured to play for his country. But I’m also sure he values the Beanpot win more than any missed opportunity for being part of Team USA’s quarterfinal elimination at the hands of the Czechs.
  7. [Rumours] Vanek

Interesting to read his comments in the longer article from The Province: http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-vanek-wont-turn-page-on-canucks-if-dealt-by-trade-deadline Vanek talks about how he wants to wait until July 1st and see what’s available re: an extension. He definitely sounds like he’d like to come back to Vancouver, but he wants to see what’s going to happen with the twins and the overall roster. He also wants to see if he can secure an NTC on his next deal, given that he has kids and wants some security for his family. Right now, they’re still in Minnesota (because the kids were already registered for school there before he signed his current deal last September) and he doesn’t want to keep moving his family around. Given everything he’s said, I think we definitely should trade him at the deadline (which has been my feeling all season). Doesn’t sound like he’s interested in doing an extension before the summer anyway. So there’s not much negotiating value in maintaining his rights (if management wants him back next season). He sounds like he intends to test the market. But it also sounds like the Canucks would be at the top of his list if they came with an offer July 1st. Given that his family is out of town anyway, I can’t see him having any with issues moving to another team at the TDL. Not that would cause him to sour on the Canucks anyway. He’s playing away from home and family already, so moving to another city for a few months wouldn’t make much difference. Seems like no reason not to move him this deadline and then see where things stand once the summer rolls around. If the fit is right on July 1st, I wouldn’t have an issue giving him the one year deal with trade protection he’s looking for. But for right now, we need the assets we could acquire by moving him at this year’s TDL.
  8. Jack Rathbone | D

Yup. Looks like a three point night. USHR has him up to 28 points (11G 17A) in 15 games (1.87 points per game).
  9. Jakob Stukel | LW

Stukel continues to roll with a goal and 2 assists tonight and named first star. Now up to 48 points (29G 19A) in 58 games.
  10. Adam Gaudette | C

Yup. Exactly what I’m thinking. And I’ve read recently that both Sikura and Stevens may actually be considering the free agency route.
  11. Adam Gaudette | C

I’m thinking I could live with us standing pat at the TDL if Sikura and Stevens both hold out and go FA and we somehow managed to grab both. Honestly boys, it’s just a few months wait. Think about how much fun you guys are having with Adam. Come on Dylan and Nolan, don’t break up the band! Take the show on the road in Vancouver!
  12. Jonah Gadjovich | LW

Wow, Guelph has scored 3 unanswered, including 2 in the final 5 minutes, and now leads 6-5. Gadjovich is +4 and clearly it’s not his line that’s bending to the pressure. And OS ties it with 30 seconds remaining! OT underway... Attack win 7-6!!! EDIT: Gadjovich is named 1st star. 2G 1A +4 6 SOG
  13. Adam Gaudette | C

Just pretend he was a 1st or 2nd round pick and everything suddenly gets a little clearer.
  14. Adam Gaudette | C

Both 2nd assists: And now 8-0. Wowza!
