  1. I guess we were never a bottom 5 team. We just needed the right type of coach and players buying in. A team that had 3 40 goal scorers in Pettersson, Kuzmenko, Horvat, a 30 goal scorer in Miller and an elite #1D in Hughes and an elite goalie in Demko should not be a bottom 5 team. Too bad we played like a bottom 5 team earlier in the season. I guess that why management wanted to fire Bruce quickly and put Tocchet in but they should not have picked the option year on Bruce if they really wanted Tocchet in the first place. Bruce was a good coach but the team is playing a lot better on Tocchet, let's be real.
  2. OEL can't be bought out but let's see what Tocchet does with OEL. Maybe he can turn him back to the old OEL and have him focus more on defending while having Hronek focus on the offense. It's not ideal for Canucks to have a 7 million dollar defensive dman but I think if OEL just focuses on D and forgets jumping in from the Blueline, simplifying his game may just improve his defensive game.
  3. Why not get both?? Just offload the giraffe and his huge cap space.
  4. Canucks can hopefully get Clifton in summer free agency to complete the top 4 if they also manage to get their NCAA player. Hughes-Clifton Malinski-Hronek OEL-Myers/Bear
  5. I trust this management will get him just like Kuzmenko. He will be offered a top 4 D position on a regular NHL roster and a team that has Hughes and Hronek and he will take it in a heartbeat. Canucks are a young up and coming team that is retooling quickly to become a playoff team. This is an attractive proposition for any college UFA.
  6. Now people need to shut up about trading Miller or Demko.
  7. Always nice to beat these bozos, doesn't matter what time of the season or what stage the team is at. I would give up chances on drafting Bedard just to beat Leafs and shut their cocky fans up
  8. Ok so you are trying to making someone like Benning who traded high picks for trash overpaid players as your example of what our current strategy is? This management is a lot of different than previous one and if you think they are the same then I don't even know if I want to take anything you say seriously. Did Benning ever get a top player for free like Kuzmenko? Did he ever trade a 7th round pick for a high ceiling player like Kravatsov?? Did he ever get a good young defenseman that is not overpaid and can also defend like Hronek. You keep saying we are buying high but you fail to realize what we are buying. If someone buys a house in Vancouver for 1.5 million, you probably say the same thing, " You bought high" but fail to realize the house value will be 2 million 2 years down the road. Rising assets always trounce cash when it comes to value. Difference between a rich and a poor person. A rich person uses cash to invest in rising assets while a poor person stashes that cash in the bank. JR and Allvin used that 1st and 2nd to invest in a rising asset. If Hronek develops into a Morrisey then his value will be way more than a middling 1st round pick and a 2nd. Not only that but it will be a good investment for the team and would make Pettersson and Hughes sign here long term. The difference between you and a GM is that you look at a trade in a vaccuum while a GM looks at the big picture and how a trade affects the team in the long run.
  9. He was stoked because he was thinking about the picks. Doesn't even know what that pick could become. Remember how Boston amassed 3 1at round picks in the position of 13, 14, 15...what did they pick?? Zobiril, shenshyn and Debrusk. So they hit on one of their picks that turned out to be a 3rd line player. Unless the pick is top 5 or at least a top 10 pick, it's really a shot in the dark after that. Even top 5 to 10 picks can be a bust...lots of examples; Juolevi, Virtanen, Kakko, Laf, Yakupov etc.
  10. Okay but we are trying to build a hockey team not a Walmart store. It's a stupid analogy because Petersson is now worth more than a 5th overall and will require a lot of "cash" to get. Are we in the business of selling cars or are we trying to win the cup? Am trying to see Canucks win the cup and get the right players. Trading your core piece for picks doesn't get you any closer to the cup. Getting core pieces that you identify as important components gets you closer to the cup. And picks are just mystery boxes, they don't have a finite value because you can either get a gold or a sea shell. With money you can buy thing you value and guaranteed to get.
  11. Will they keep selling high while signing Players like Larkin to 8 year deals?? Even their fans are confused when they are so close to playoffs. Will they trade Raymond next?? I mean 1st round picks are great but to trade young elite players for them seems like nonsense. Also they better be hitting on that 1st pick or Hronek was given away for free if they missed on their 1st pick.
  12. Guys like Drance have zero hockey IQ and just look at picks like they are guaranteed elite players like Petersson. To them, it's like we traded Bedard for Hronek when the pick will probably end up being 17 to 20. Hronek is sure as hell worth more than a 20th overall pick. Benning traded a 9th overall for OEL so a 20th overall pick for a 10 times better D man with much lower cap hit and much younger player is a good trade in my eyes
  13. Yzerman did get a good return though but it's confusing for their fans as well. It's similar to us trading Kuzmenko now for a conditional top 12 protected 1st and 2nd? Would you do it? I wouldn't do it that's for sure. https://youtu.be/GKZJdaiJF84
  14. Doesn't make sense. You want some players that are young and promising to stay and become vets to teach younger players. Trading away players for picks which eventually become players that are valuable but you trade them again doesn't make sense. Yzerman is a good GM and did get a good return for Hronek but I wonder if he just developing players to trade for 1at and 2nd round picks? What's the end goal there? Because draft picks can take time to develop and not all are 100% guaranteed to become players like Hronek.
  15. Benning during his 7 years of being a GM only added: Pettersson Hughes Demko Miller Podkolzin Boeser Garland OEL - negative Myers - negative JR/Alvin in one year added: Kuzmenko Hronek Beauvillier Kravatsov Raty Bear Joshua Mikheyev I mean look at what Benning got after all the top 5 drafts, trades, finishing bottom in the standings the last 7 to 8 years which accumulated to very little when you look at the overall picture. Our prospect pool is bare and we also have no defense at NHL level except Hughes and the 2 anchor boat of contracts that play like AHLers. So am impressed by what the new management have done in little time. Am sure they will trade Boeser and Myers too in offseason.
  16. We won't get to mediocre. This new management already got us a defender that Benning couldnt get the last 8 years. Also he got Kuzmenko for free through FA. Plus Beau, Raty, Kravatsov, Bloom, Bear, Joshua, Mikheyev...all within this year. They have made lots of smart additions and quickly fixed mistakes like Stillman. I believe at the pace of the additions and changes they are making that this team could make playoffs either next year or year after at the latest. They will probably trade Boeser and get rid of Myers and makes some trades to add 2 more top 4D. People don't seem to listen to press conferences. The goal of this new management was to turn this team around in 2 to 3 years and they are doing why they said they would do unlike Benning
  17. So Pettersson, Hughes, Kravatsov, Raty, Likkermackie, Podkolzin, Hoglander and Rathbone would fit your description. Some are younger and some need more time to develop. Obviously draft picks aren't a guarantee to any bonafide players that will be elite and we got lucky getting Hughes and Pettersson while we missed when we picked Juolevi and Virtanen with our top 5 picks. We got Podkolzin with top 10 pick and how long since the draft has he been developing? So the new management doesn't want to draft the whole damn team, since it will need tons of luck and 10 years to draft and by that time those young elite players like Pettersson and Hughes will be on another team, rinse and repeat. They need to draft but they also need to trade for young players when they can to speed up the process. No cup contending team won a cup without trading some of their picks to get players they need. Think of Chicago who got Hossa and Sharp via trades. LA Kings traded for Jeff Carter and Richards. Tampa traded for McDonaugh. Do you think those teams would win their cups without those trades to complete their team? I would say not a chance. Maybe Hronek will become as valuable as a McDonaugh for us in the future. So people complaining about us giving a mid 1st round pick need to check themselves, we got a valuable piece not a crappy piece which Benning used picks for like OEL trade.
  18. True, I think Canucks are further ahead the the wings. We also have a lot more offensive forwards comparef to them and they only have Larkin and Raymond while Zadina was a bust.
  19. They shit the bed last year and this off season so now they want to clear cap space and fix some mistakes. They are over the cap next year so this had to be done. They still need to trade Boeser, Pearson, Poolman and Myers
  20. I do consider 24 to 26 be young enough for a 5 to 7 year playoff run. No team will trade a 23 or younger player that is great so we would have to draft those players and wait 3 to 4 years for them to develop.
  21. Hronek is 25 yrs old. Is pretty young and same age group as Kuzmenko, Pettersson, Hughes, Demko etc. I think we are surrounding our young core with similar age players. It won't make sense to draft a D which will take minimum 2 to 3 years to develop which by that time our core would be 3 years older. A forward top 5 pick could very well make the team in a year or right from the year they got drafted if he is very talented.
