  1. nasty puck in the face, took it right in the nose... staying on the bench edit 1 - FYI - even the play by play guy pointed out that virtanen needs to be smarter in the offensive zone. I noticed in the WJ as well as in this game, he will burst with speed wide down RW and circle behind the net, only to blindly throw it out front hoping someone is there. edit 2 Hitmen 1 - Tigers 0, scored on a 4 on 1 rush, virtanen not on ice
  2. Adding a bonafide scorer isn't going to help in the big picture. The trading of Lu is the first domino in what should be a very fruitful retooling. Our G situation gets younger and much cheaper. Albeit we lose the experience, recent successful teams have gotten through playoffs with mediocre goaltending supported by an abundance of scoring. Trading Kesler and Edler for young cheaper versions on themselves + the extra cap room means we can be competitive next year AND add some prospect depth in the process.
  3. mixed this a while back.... felt appropriate to post here <iframe src="https://www.spreaker.com/embed/player/mini?autoplay=false&color=e8e8e8&episode_id=1435224" style="width: 100%; height: 71px; min-width: 200px;" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe> link if player doesn't work https://www.spreaker...tyle_dedication Track List: Kidd Kaos - Exit 9 Yoji Biomehanika - Hardstyle Disco Lisa Lashes - Come to this Benjamin Leung & Tasix - Raindrops Riot Brothers - Guyver Unit Barely Legal - Goose Bumps Blank & Jones - Summersun Armin Van Buuren - Control Freak Heaven's Cry - Till tears do us part Amber D - Rush on me Lisa Lashes Unbelievable
  4. yes the EB games across canada along with bestbuy are doing nidmight releases.. I also know that a gamestop in pittsburgh is already selling their copies. i have a friend that lives there that already has and is playing it.
  5. to make a long story short... driver's need to pay for everyone benefit.... sorry driver's no choice in the matter, you've been selected to pay more money yet we'll let everyone reap the benefits of us drilling a hole into your pocket. as stated before, these benefits are for EVERYONE and thus EVERYONE should pay. --- interesting artice, don't know how credible... source average bus co2 emission 1.3kg/km with an occupancy average (peak and off peak - all routes) 9 passengers... 0.144 kg / km per person another article.. source worldwide average car emission 0.198 kg / km per person that's a savings extra emission of 0.054 kg / km per person hardly a savings... what the first article talks about is the correct placement of transit for high volume areas to maximize the usage... at current statistics.. driving is not much different for the environment than you "so-called" green bus-goers.
  6. I know there are a lot of people we need to move off the roads, but I'm being punished for benefit of others.. "too bad so sad analyst, you choose to drive...." or "that's life, it's not fair" It great that at least this is on the table for debate, but what i'd really like to see is my tax dollar go to something that's actually for me.....
  7. <3 ahzdeen, you feel my pain.... you guys are saying... there's extra cost and you're under-estimating you consumption. there's a $1388 difference in cost... add $1000 per year... there's still a 388 savings for me while driving. not to mention the value of my time... which i put at $25/hour - that's $12,000 obviously some people's time are worth more than others.
  8. fine let's add to the equation me selling my car.... SOURCE: buysell 2002 Mazda Protege 5 2002 MAZDA PROTEGE 5 167000km 2002 MAZDA PROTEGE 5 ES, 167,000 km, $7500 (negot) 5dr, Manual, FWD, 2.0l, 4 Cylinders more... $7,500.00 July 26 1300 + 1040 + 280 = 2620 annual expenses. or sell car 73 x 12 for 1 zone bus pass (876) + 161 x 12 for WCE (1932)= 4008 annually Extra commuting cost, 1388 per year - in 5 years, i would having paid the same amount as the value of the car and yet end up with no asset in the end.... hmm that makes a lot of sense...
  9. my car is bought and paid for, and in fact you add my annual insurance of 1300 + gas of 20/week + 70 quarterly oil changes... (plus i can use it whenever i feel like not tied to train schedules) 1300 + 1040 + 280 = 2620 annual expenses. or sell car 73 x 12 for 1 zone bus pass (876) + 161 x 12 for WCE (1932)= 4008 annually or 4x28x12 for parking at wce station (1344)+ 161 x 12 for WCE (1932)= 3276 <not to mention with this method I still pay for my car> give you heads a shake
  10. exactly, for the majority, driving is an essential part of living and working. Those those who are forced to do it, you're penalizing... these are supposed to be improvements for everyone... thus, everyone should pay. I have no problem paying them, if we're treated equally. the point is to create alternative to driving, giving solutions... give the drivers an incentive, not a penalty. My time is valuable. I lose money and my company loses money if i'm not there able to perform my job. To some people, you could care less if you waste away in gridlock for 2 hours... I on the other hand have more important things to do.
  11. You give me $50 per day for my time wasted on transit and then I'll change my stance.
  12. Ok, I totally agree, I've been telling my wife for years that our buildings need to be bigger... but there is obviously a reason why they are not doing it... I have no clue why... but it's not being done. now that i think about it, why would the supplier want to flood the market with units and dilute the property values....
  13. inane, not that this is really related to provincial tolls, buildings are privately owned and operated. So good luck using "we need more housing" as a plee to get companies to arbitrarily tear down and rebuild for a 20% expansion. The cost just does not justify the need to expand.
  14. and the cost of living in brentwood apartment??? no much less than a condo at the corner of robson and thurlow.... so yes, it's a great idea (for those who can afford it) to live in those area, ironically, those who can afford it, generally don't care that they pay an extra $15 to park daily.
  15. bucky, No, I didn't forget the taiwan and mainland migration... I just don't know the current statistics to back anythign I say. and LoLz at inane... you can't MAGICALLY ADD TO EXISITING BUILDINGS... you need to completely tear down the building, have engineers construct a new building to withstand the new height. WOW, I'm no engineer, but adding to a 20 story, 30 year old building???? get real.
  16. We can't expand upwards because of the city of vancouver's building height by-law.... We can only expand outwards, moving development into the north fraser and fraser valley... And there is a large number of people coming but there is also a large number of people leaving as well... The uncertainty of Hong Kong's return to Chinda 1997 is by far over and a large number of popluation has moved back. The rise in the Canadian Dollar and high cost of living is making Vancouver not as viable option for tourists, temporary residents and landed immigrants. Since the US has eased its policies on temp green cards, the cost of living here is nearly the same as LA... (which is more attractive to a tourist?)
  17. Yes I know about electronic tolling, I was just so mad I didn't put 2 and 2 together and realize that was the system being proposed. Yes I understand driving is a privilege. But as someone stated earlier, our income sure does not reflect the increase in cost of living expenses. I can't afford to live downtown, so you want to make it less affordable now that I've chosen to live in the suburbs. You want to make it easier for the $8 burger flipper to get to work, and make the trades people, white collars and general population pay to SUSTAIN service at it's current levels. I'm all for improvements, but who should pay for those?? EVERYONE not just the car owners. Am I going to get more privileges than you for riding the bus? Theoretically I paid more, so am I getting First Class you economy? no.... we're equal and should be penalized equally.
  18. In an earlier post I mentioned that I agree the issue is real and that a solution is to be found, but the solution to every problem in this province seems to be, "Let's gauge the Driver" did a tax hike in fuel stop people from driving? No, because a lot of people have no choice, driving is the best solution. So we drivers get punished for improvements on a system which "should" indirectly make our communte quicker... (not literally because now we have to wait to pay the tolls.) Meanwhile, the "save the environment" tree-huggers get more buses to get to the Art Gallery to protest. As stated before, give drivers a better option, such as: Licensed Class 5 (minimum) drivers receive a free monthly Fare Card (1 zone would be fine) with their vehicle registration.
  19. ^^ exactly and I felt that re-quoting my post is relavent to that same arguement. It's the middle and upperclass people that pay for the mistakes made by the over-population of 3rd world countries??? I work hard and earn a living and I'm being penalized for living in a vastly growing city.... hmmm....
  20. do incredibly high taxes stop you from smoking or drinking??? didn't think so....
  21. Again, here we go with the "reduce our air pollution" and "our carbon footprint is too big" arguement. Fact of the matter is, Vancouver and it's inhabitants make up a SMALL portion of the world's population. We seemed to be brainwashed to be concerned of our own contribution to the environment, and yet we continue to export massive amounts of coal to countries for use in coal power energy plants. Let's be real, instead of trying to make themselves look good by charging taxes and fees to drivers, maybe the provincial and federal goverment should spend their money providing alternative energy resources to places that need it. NOT PUTTING THEM ON A MOUNTAIN IN A PLACE THAT USES HYDROELECTRICITY. It's so hypocritical to make an arguement that this is for "a better environment" when we need to look in the mirror and see what's really going on in the big picture. This is simply a way for translink to get cash, not save the environment. The cash maybe to cover a shortfall, but that's EVERYONE's issue, not just the driver's. If so, add a 1% sales tax to be applied to all and have that cover transportant and import/export costs.
  22. don't get me wrong, in the opportunities i can, I take co-workers to and from work... my wife come with me when we work at relatively the same times.... so I do my best to contribute and I understand the need for improvements. I just feel in my situation I've got no choice but to drive. Yet nothing is being done to help me (the evergreen live is potentially being scrapped) and your asking me to pay more and more each year for someone elses benefit. There are hundreds of thousands of people living in north fraser and the fraser valley that don't work in their area. Yet we aren't receiving any help at all.... the golden ears bridge.... that's it, at least that is a step in the right direction and the toll is understandable. solution?? 4 lane highway (2 each direction) that runs along the south end of the inlet (next to the west coast express tracks) that is a $3-5 toll for direct connection to the port at the north end of clark road. I'd pay $10 daily to cut my daily commute from 2 hours to 45 min.....
