@Spoderman Sorry about that, forgot about the whole spoilers thing.
-
A team without Edler, Tanev, and Tryamkin would be really hard to watch next year.
-
So is the entire Canucks fanbase rallying behind Burrows and the Senators to win the Cup now?
-
No excuse for Jake Virtanen to not get at least 20 goals and 20 assists this season.

@Tom SestitoEven if hes paced to get 40 points Baer still hasn't done it. We can't say Boeser has scores 30 goals even though his pace says he could last season.
And Baer is more developed of a player than Virtanen

Wonder what the Canucks would have to offer to get Tom Wilson from the Capitals.

First off, I strongly disagree with your view on Eller--in fact, I'd say he's become one of the best bargain deals in the league. He brings a lot at only $3.5Mper--a perfect veteran 3C who can move up to a 2C in an emergency and his offence is still getting incrementally better.
And if the Canucks (or anyone else) took on Orpik's salary, then they'd have the cap space to keep both Wilson and Carlson (re-signing Carlson from $4M to $7M would be and additional $3M, Wilson might warrant a raise from $1M or so).
If Wilson is to be traded, it will be for significant futures as I stated originally.
All that said, I think if we're patient with Virtanen, we'll have a player with similar attributes, minus the nasty Wilson brings.
-
@Undrafted What do you think the Caps would offer in a potential Orpik cap dump? Beck Malenstyn was a player the Canucks were looking at and hoping to pick if he reached the Jakub Stukel pick. Not sure the Capitals would give up a guy like that.
-
Honestly, I don't know much about the Caps farm or prospects, so I couldn't say--I just watch their games on a regular basis with my friends. I rely on them to pass on news about organizational stuff and that name hasn't come up at all.
If I were to wildly guess what their GM might do, it'd likely be trying to convince one or both of Carlson and Wilson to take a hometown discount. Carlson might bite if they give him the 8th year; Wilson might agree to a 1-yr deal with the assurance that he'd get paid the year after, once Orpik's deal is off the books. Both players seem to genuinely want to stay with the organization.

I wonder what Galchenyuk's trading value is at this point?

What to do with Loui Eriksson?

I'm reminded of the following goodfellas movie scene whenever I think of Eriksson (whether he has a good or bad game):
Now the guy's got Paulie as a partner. Any problems, he goes to Paulie. Trouble with the bill? He can go to Paulie. Trouble with the cops, deliveries, Tommy, he can call Paulie. But now the guy's gotta come up with Paulie's money every week, no matter what. Business bad? "**** you, pay me." Oh, you had a fire? "**** you, pay me." Place got hit by lightning, huh? "**** you, pay me." Also, Paulie could do anything. Especially run up bills on the joint's credit. And why not? Nobody's gonna pay for it anyway. And as soon as the deliveries are made in the front door, you move the stuff out the back and sell it at a discount. You take a two hundred dollar case of booze and you sell it for a hundred. It doesn't matter. It's all profit. And then finally, when there's nothing left, when you can't borrow another buck from the bank or buy another case of booze, you bust the joint out
Eriksson had a great game? Loui says, I don't care, **** you pay me.
Eriksson had a bad game? Loui says, I don't care, **** you pay me.
Team is in a tight cap crunch? Loui says, I don't care, **** you pay me.

Since they've come into the league have the Sedins been top 10 forwards? Hard to argue against it.

Note that the Bleacher report article was written in 2012, before Hank had 1000 points and before he was even was the all-time Canucks leader in points.
To answer @TheHitman's question, the Sedins sit at 6th and 8th in points since 2000, with Daniel being the closest player to 1000 points in that era, meaning 7 players have hit the 1000-point mark since 2000-01.

@S'all Good Man That list is so bad smh.
-
Does Guentzel get suspended for the shoulder to Carlson's head just now? Very much the same hit as Wilsons but Carlson didn't even see Guentzel coming.
-
Couldn't they just have younger players room with the veterans? This Fortnite ban on the road is just plain stupid.
-
Why is Kunitz getting a pass for his dirty play tonight?

It's between Buffalo and Vancouver now for Pronman's number one ranked farm system on The Athletic.

@Tre Mac Even though I'm a Demko homer, I'm gonna guess that on a list made by a pro writer, they'll probably have Luukkonen cancelling him out considering that they were both considered the #1 Euro goalies of their classes.
-
@Alflives generational? No.
-
Quinn Hughes will prove to be the best player in his draft, and a unique - generational talent - who will lead us to at least three Cups.

I miss Sportsnet Pacific, can't believe I'm watching Oilers/Leafs highlights to open the show rather than the monumental night for Daniel Sedin...

His NHL 2002/2003 stuff was great too.
"Top shelf where mom keeps that sack of potatoes everybody seems to keep talking about"
"Wow Don, that was really incredible!"
"Then don't eat it!"
"I said incredible!"
"Oh"
"I'd rather get hit with a medicine ball in the face than take a hit like that!"
This is just off the top of my head. I spent so much time playing NHL 2002

I'd enjoy if Hartnell was reunited with the Sedin twins next season! Suck it Phaneuf!

@goalie13 I think he's referring to 1 all star game. Not sure where the Phaneuf part comes from though.

@apollo watch the video that DBTR posted above.

Bo Horvat is the Canucks Derek Jeter.

Could MDZ be getting traded at this years deadline? He's looked good so far and the contract isn't bad for a team like the Capitals who needs help on defence.

Maybe, but with our shallow pool on D, it might not be a bad idea to hold onto him for another season. Vanek, on the other hand, is doing exactly what he needs to to fetch a decent return at the deadline, and we have a pretty decent surplus of young forwards in our pool that could fill in. Maybe Gaudette slots in towards the end point of this season.

What do Baertschi, Granlund, and Virtanen cost us to re-sign?
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
If Baertschi (35) and Grandlund (32) have repeat seasons point wise, based on league comparables (age, position, points, games)
Granlund 3 years @ $2-$2.5M AAV
Comparable: Hyman (4x2.25)
Baertschi 4 years @ $4.0M AAV
Comparable: Boedker (4x4)
Virtanen, at this point is impossible to predict. Maybe close to Josh Anderson or Andreas Athanasiou. Not really any players that have had the same first 3 years.
-
Demko, Goldobin, and Holm seem to be playing really well in Utica so far!
-
Just curious, what's everyones future top six after this draft?
-
Should JB give Gudbranson a bridge contract? At this point Gudbranson hasn't proved a whole lot and signing him long term doesn't do us any favours.

S'all, he proved nothing this year. Even pre-Martin I was concerned at his lack of physicality for a big dude and it's not like his outlet pass was making up for it. He wasn't actually using his size, rarely finished his checks and wasn't all that nasty to crease crashers / screeners.
I see no reason he should get more than a soft bridge contract, or arbitration. Dude was asking for $5m+ out of Florida.. no thanks.
-
What happened to the YouTube channel? It used to show Canucks full game highlights then became Canucks in 5 followed by Canucks in 2 and now it's completely gone?
-
Dream scenario: sign Carlson and Doughty, bring back Tryamkin, trade Gudbranson for Borgstrom...

@Tigs You don't think Florida would do it?

Why do USA suck at international hockey?
- Show previous comments 2 more

They ended in second place, one point behind Canada, in the qualifying round. They just happened to choke hard in their first elimination game. It also doesn't help that all of the vets keep saying "hell no" when asked to play. They end up getting stuck with the young guys. A player like Patrick Kane would come in handy.
-
It depends. None of the US veterans bother to show up for the World Championships like Sabrefan said. That's on Team USA.
In the past few Olympics though they haven't selected their best talent. It worked out for them in Vancouver but not so much this past Olympics.
Their thinking has always been that if they take some meat and potatoes players to go along with a few stars they can challenge Canada better than if they went with their best talent. Last time that strategy failed miserably. I think they would have a much better team next year though.

Can you imagine a John Carlson/Olli Juolevi pairing?
