  1. I miss Sportsnet Pacific, can't believe I'm watching Oilers/Leafs highlights to open the show rather than the monumental night for Daniel Sedin...

"Wow Don, that was really incredible!"

      "Oh"

This is just off the top of my head. I spent so much time playing NHL 2002

Daniel finally gets his 1000th and Shaw screws it up. That's one timeless moment we won't get back. Thanks Shaw.

If we could negotiate a deal with Carlson beforehand and then trade for him right after...

      WSH: Tanev + Goldobin

VAN: Carlson (signed at a 7x7 extension)

      TheHitman

@MikeBossy Just horrendous. This is a good rookie year too.

  5. If John Carlson hits free agency, Canucks should be 1st in line to throw a big contract at him.

@Trebreh No point trading Edler atm, his contract ends next year might as well trade him then.

    4. Pears

      Pears

I’m thinking the same. He’d be a huge addition to the defense. I’d be more than happy giving him 8m x 7.

  6. Quinton Hughes is having one hell of a showing.

  7. I'm okay with the Canucks contending for a playoff spot this year. If the last two years have taught us anything it's that we're not going to win any of the top three spots and Jim Benning will still draft some real good players. A guy like Evan Bouchard or Bode Wilde would still be worth it.

      -AJ-

I'd agree. Tanking just isn't worth the risk. The risk/return ratio is much higher now than it used to be. Furthermore, we've stocked the cupboards quite well and are ready to start winning soon/now.

    3. TheHitman

      TheHitman

      @apollo That's the spirit!

@-AJ- Yeah, we still need one high end defensemen and one forward but there's always that'll randomly rise through the ranks in prospect cupboard at some point. Plenty of high end defensemen and forwards have come through outside of top picks in recent years.

@Jimmy McGill Considering buying Vegas tickets in advance but going to see how this weekend goes for him first. Was there last year for Henrik's 1000 points and it was absolutely marvelous.

      JM_

yah we were too, by accident. We got offered free tix from our Canucks member agent for that game, and sat right behind the goal too. It was very cool.

  9. 8 left for Daniel!

      luckylager

      Oh, but to the OP-

I'm not great with salary projections, but let's say it's a 3yr bridge for all those players:

Baer 2.8 - 3.25M,  Granny gets the same, Jake gets 1.75- 2M. Jake has a lot more to prove at this point

    3. Art Vandelay

      Art Vandelay

If Baertschi (35) and Grandlund (32) have repeat seasons point wise, based on league comparables (age, position, points, games)

      Granlund 3 years @ $2-$2.5M AAV

      Comparable: Hyman (4x2.25)

      Baertschi 4 years @ $4.0M AAV

      Comparable: Boedker (4x4)

Virtanen, at this point is impossible to predict. Maybe close to Josh Anderson or Andreas Athanasiou. Not really any players that have had the same first 3 years.

    4. TheHitman

      TheHitman

I suspect Baertschi will get ~45 points this year. Granlund doesn't seem like he'll get the opportunities to score goals like he did last year with the Sedins.

  13. I wonder what Galchenyuk's trading value is at this point?

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Julien's the real problem in Montreal.  Not only are his deployment decisions terrible, he's 's also a pitiful excuse for a human being.  Terrible decision to hire that scumbag.  WD was an idiot, but at least he was an alright guy off the ice.

    4. Alflives

      Alflives

During his time in Montreal, were Kassian and Chucky teammates?

  14. Could MDZ be getting traded at this years deadline? He's looked good so far and the contract isn't bad for a team like the Capitals who needs help on defence.

If he keeps up the play/pace he's currently on, if there is a team in desperate need of a offensive D that can munch a lot of minutes, I wouldn't think a late 1st is out of the question. If his play drops off, a 2nd or 3rd.

    3. 48MPHSlapShot

      48MPHSlapShot

Maybe, but with our shallow pool on D, it might not be a bad idea to hold onto him for another season. Vanek, on the other hand, is doing exactly what he needs to to fetch a decent return at the deadline, and we have a pretty decent surplus of young forwards in our pool that could fill in. Maybe Gaudette slots in towards the end point of this season.

    4. PunjabiCanucks

      PunjabiCanucks

I say we try to trade Edler first, before Tanev or Del Zotto (unless we are offered some really good picks)

  15. Gut feeling says we most likely get Filip Zadina in the 2018 draft. Would be overjoyed if it happened.

    1. JM_

      JM_

we are not going to be bad enough or lucky enough for a top 3 pick. Arizona should be fined for how blatant their open tank is.

But getting this guy would be great.

    2. TheHitman

      TheHitman

@Jimmy McGill He's probably the last forward we need in terms of top six prospects IMO.

  16. What happened to the YouTube channel? It used to show Canucks full game highlights then became Canucks in 5 followed by Canucks in 2 and now it's completely gone?

I've also thought that Jalen Chatfield has looked really good too despite not putting up any points. Won't be shocked to see Chatfield up with the Canucks some point this season.

      But for now

      Baerstchi- Horvat - Boeser

      Grandlund/ Goldobin- Suter- Ericksson

      Sedin- Sedin- Grandlund/ Goldobin

If the Sedins don't click, Split them between the 2nd and 3rd lines

  23. Tough loss for the Preds, Penguins are an unstoppable powerhouse.

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

I thought they looked fairly stoppable.  Especially when they didn't get a shot on net for 36 minutes.

    2. TheHitman

      TheHitman

Yeah every shot in the other 24 minutes ended up in the back of the net.

    3. Mathew Barzal

      Mathew Barzal

They're unstoppable because their plethora of talent allows them to come through even when being completely and utterly neutralized for 90% of a game.

The Capitals should have swept the Penguins with the way that series looked from a neutral fans perspective. But the Penguins have got the perfect mesh of skill and grit on every line.

  24. Since they've come into the league have the Sedins been top 10 forwards? Hard to argue against it.

Note that the Bleacher report article was written in 2012, before Hank had 1000 points and before he was even was the all-time Canucks leader in points.

To answer @TheHitman's question, the Sedins sit at 6th and 8th in points since 2000, with Daniel being the closest player to 1000 points in that era, meaning 7 players have hit the 1000-point mark since 2000-01.

    3. TheHitman

      TheHitman

I'd put Toews, Kane, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Getzlaf, and maybe Carter ahead of them.

  25. That 2007 OT loss to Anaheim still hurts. Should've been a penalty.
