  1. I did not like Jim's answer to the scheduling question. Just because he can't see other team's schedules doesn't mean he should accept 19 games in 31 days. It's his job to focus on what's best for OUR team, and he should absolutely be pushing back against that type of scheduling. I just don't always get the sense that Jim is on top of certain things. He also sounded very defensive about the question. It's fine to look forward, but it's also important to recognize that mistakes were made.

That's mine ^ right there.  Tears of joy....I will NEVER forget that day.

See how there was NO hesitation from Burr?   Batted that puck down and scored with pure determination.  My hero.

Shoot it like you mean it.

(and how we can not love Kes....guy wore his heart on his sleeve)

Definitely one of mine as well, especially since I was at that game.

I was finishing a year at university and planned to travel through Vancouver on my way home. I looked at the playoff schedule and realized I'd be in Vancouver on the day of a game. I had been to a few games before, but it was a pretty rare occurrence for me as I never lived in Vancouver, and I had never been to a playoff game. Despite being a poor student, I had a feeling that this was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. So, not even knowing what the first round match up would be (it was expected to be Dallas at the time, if I recall), I bought a ticket.

The ticket I bought was for "home game 4", which I had misread as "game 4". So when I bought the ticket, I thought for sure it would be a game that I would get to see. Then the playoff matches were solidified and we were paired up with Chicago. I was worried, Chicago seemed to have our number, but no matter what, game 4 had to take place, right? Then I realized ... "home game 4" actually meant game 7 of the series. I started to really worry at that point. What were the odds that Vancouver and Chicago went to 7 games? Given recent history, I wasn't optimistic.

Then, Vancouver won three games in a row to open the series. I really didn't expect a game 7 to happen at that point, though I was glad it was for the opposite reason I had initially assumed (Chicago handing our ass to us). But then Chicago won. And won again. And won again. Pretty surreal.

So I showed up to the arena for game 7 honestly unsure if my ticket would even be valid, because I had bought it through Stub Hub. I was worried that whoever sold the ticket might somehow have the option to change their minds even. When the ticket was scanned and I made my way into the arena, that's when the excitement really kicked in.

And it was a low scoring game! The Canucks led 1 - 0 for the vast majority of it. When Chicago tied it up near the end of the 3rd, my heart sank. I thought for sure that they would have the momentum and that this would be the end. But I also thought, what the heck, at least I'll be there for the final game they play that season.

Most of the game is a bit of a blur, but the end is not. I can remember clear as day how Burrows took that shot and "slayed the dragon". I was so pumped up that on my way out I bought an autographed and framed photo of Daniel Sedin (the same year he won the Art Ross, no less). It's hanging up in my home, while the ticket and playoff towel are safely stored away.

The energy outside the arena was completely nuts as well. I grew up in a small town and to see so many people, in such a big city, cheering in the streets like maniacs ... was almost overwhelming.

That was the first and (so far) only playoff game I've ever been to.

Bran messing with the Mad King's head theory has a chance now. Never know! That would be so sick.

It would have to work very differently from what we've just seen in the last episode. How and why would Bran warg into Aerys, and what would he do that would cause him to go mad?

I'd say it's somewhat plausible, but frankly, I'll go with Occam's Razor on this one and assume it's simply a result of all that inbreeding.

  4. I know some people won't be happy with the ending to the Rumble, but it definitely fits the narrative. Reigns taking out HHH a month ago made this a distinct possibility that sets up the larger storyline for Wrestlemania. I hope people didn't think HHH would come back like nothing happened. Now that would have been seriously out of character.

This was a great ending. Sometimes, there is a blindness towards HHH that comes from pure fandom. He's such an effective heel that sometimes, people can't see past the outer layer. If you think it's Paul Levesque out there with a shovel, you're a mark. When he puts over - likely Reigns - by dropping the title at Wrestlemania, you'll know I was right. I'm no Reigns fan, but HHH knows what's right for business, and he's giving you what you want, whether you realize it or not. Best heel ever.

  5. Was hot-rod on roids? I dont think he was, could it be just health related eg stress?? I guess my question is why are all these wrestlers dying at a earlier age like 60's and how old is Vince. Also, didn't Vince take roids?

I believe this is a common misconception. The steroids aren't, or aren't solely, what causes the enlarged heart that leads to heart attacks. Instead, my understanding is that it has more to do with abusing pain medication. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Hearing that #Canucks forward Sven Baertschi will not accept his qualifying offer. Hearing Baertschi wants a 1 way contract.

    NEWS 1130 Sports@NEWS1130Sports 2h2 hours ago

Agent Andre Rufener says he is positive something will get done soon. The #Canucks still retain Baertschi's rights but just need a contract.

Cmon I know he had a good latter half of the season in the AHL but does that really warrant a 1 way contract yet? To me he still needs to prove he can produce in the NHL consistently before he gets a 1 way.

Clenny and Frankie accepted a 2 way in expectation they would earn themselves a 1 way after this season. I think Sven needs to prove the same

Honestly though, what does it matter? I believe he will stay up with the team for the full year, so from that perspective, this is moot. And if not, he gets paid a bit more for his AHL games. That doesn't bother me one bit.

Perhaps you're worried about the precedent it might set? Even then, I'll let the GM worry about that. Some players have more leverage than others and I think it's reasonable for Baertschi to push for the best deal he can get.

  7. Jon's "death" really makes a lot of sense.

There are two main reasons why I don't think we're done with Jon just yet:

    1) The issue of his parentage is still not resolved. Yes, in this series there have been other threads cut short by a character's death, but the mystery of Jon's parents has been in place since the very beginning, and there's no way to conclude it satisfactorily without Jon being alive. There's absolutely no impact if we find out the truth after he's dead because there wouldn't be any consequence to it.

    2) Building on my first point, it seems very likely that we find out Jon's the son of Rhaegar. This has huge implications for the upcoming conflicts in Westeros. We've already seen that Jon is very loyal to his family, so he'll have motivation. Also keep in mind that Daenarys will need him to fulfil the prophecy of "the dragon with three heads." I think that might be applicable, anyway, as Jon will likely serve as one of those heads.

But, most importantly, Jon is now freed of all obligations to The Watch. He can now partake in the events of Westeros. Remember when he was offered the lordship of Winterfell but had to decline because of his obligations to The Watch? Not a problem any more. Importantly, Jon can now do this with definitive knowledge of the White Walkers and the impending danger, so he brings that to the table. He's also learned valuable leadership skills from his time there. He's in a great position to make an impact, so long as he's not dead.

  8. RAW was a pretty crappy show, the mainevent was awesome, the Heyman promo was good, the 6 man tag was decent (part of it anyways), but aside from that it was pretty difficult to sit through the rest of the show.

I'm looking forward to the continuation of this Ambrose/Rollins feud, I'm thinking about just PVRing RAW to catch that, the Lesnar stuff when he's there, then skipping the rest

PVR'ing it is the only way to go. At three hours, it's worth it just for skipping the commercials.

  9. Same with Shaw. Someone from Shaw told me at this time they don't have any word if they will have the ability to offer it. They did say that can submit a request for WWE Network on my behalf.

With Rogers owning the rights I'm not surprised that they'll have to hammer out a deal with other Canadian providers, but I hope it's a quick process.

  10. Are you on crack or something? Wrestlemania was months ago lol.

I think an F5 is in order, Bork.

Sadly, I'm not surprised that they closed the show with a Stephanie vs. Brie segment for the second week in a row. Last week's was so bad, I feel like they did it again this week just out of stubbornness. Very weak show, overall, for two weeks out from Summer Slam.

The only saving grace was the Ambrose/Rollins stuff, which was great.

  11. So is the WWE network only going to be avalable through the TV? There's no legitimate way to throw it up on the computer screen while you are doing some work? Ugh, the whole network is just frustrating, I am perfectly fine with giving my money to the WWE for the network. Instead I am forced to either use a proxy server or addon to use the network or just find a stream online for ppv.

I'm not sure if it's available through the channel only, or if subscribers to the channel get access to other stuff as well. I think it might be something like access to an on-demand section that's included with the cost of the channel. But if that's the case, then yes, it's all TV-based, unfortunately. I'm not sure why only Canada is set up this way.

  12. Notes from the WWE conference call today:

Some major news coming out of the WWE today

*WWE network will offer a $19.99 per month price for those who don't want to commit to the six month period. It's clear from the number of people who dropped the network even with the commitment in place that it will be much easier to just order at $9.99 and stop paying.

*A one-time payment plan has been offered. Currently subscribers are billed $9.99 per month, but now they can sign up for $59.94 and be billed all at once. The hope is that people will sign up to be billed all at once which saves money for people who decide to drop.

*The network has 700,000 subscribers as of 6/30. They didn't give an updated number. Between 4/7 and 6/30 they added 161,000 subscribers, but had 128,000 cancellations. They wouldn't give details but this is likely shortly after WrestleMania when they had the big jump in subscribers.

*The cancellation number is the huge story here.

*The network will be available in 170 countries on August 12. The key countries that affects are Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

*They are targeting October for the U.K.

*Countries like Italy, UAE, Germany, Japan, China, Thailand and Malaysia would be available at a date to be announced

*WWE signed a ten year deal with Rogers Communications for exclusivity in Canada through 2024. This will include all current programming. The WWE Network will be offered as a traditional television PPV channel in Canada starting August 12. That explains the recent Observer report of WWE purchasing transponder time and testing out the network feed, as a prelude to a television availability. Rogers will own not only the broadcast rights but the digital rights to all the major WWE television shows.

*There wll be massive cost cutting internally. These costs will save the company $10 million this year and $30 million in 2015.

*The cutting wasn't specified past a seven percent reduction in the workforce. It was noted that with the reduction in the work force, there will be a one-time loss of $4.5 million for severance packages taken during the current third quarter.

*They will add Monday Night War and WWE Rivalries to the program schedule shortly.

*If they average 650,000 subscribers in the third quarter, they estimate OIBDA losses of $12 to $17 million in the next quarter, but with the cost cutbacks, annual OIBDA losses would be $25 million to $35 million. Previously they had estimated annual losses (not OIBDA, but total losses) at $45 million to $52 million.

*The network itself lost $15.5 million in OIBDA.

*The cutbacks are so significant that they now feel they can break even on 500,000 subscribers in 2015 as opposed to 1.4 million subscribers and at 1.5 million subscribers they will have OIBDA of $100 million to $120 million, which is more than they had pre-network.

*For the quarter, the company recorded $156.3 million in revenues and lost $14.5 million.

*The WrestleMania quarter last year took in $152.3 million in revenues and had $5.2 million in profits.

*On a world wide basis, WrestleMania did 690,000 buys, Extreme Rules did 108,000, Payback did 67,000 and Money in the Bank did 122,000. For 2013, those shows did 1,104,000; 245,000, 198,000 and 223,000 last year. Keep in mind U.S. totals for all shows were way down, but in theory (not fact), international should be the same. It's not, due to the number of international subscribers to the network.

*TV revenue was up from $38.7 million to $43.8 million due to Total Divas and some international contract gains.

*Digital media was down from $7.4 million to $5.2 million due to less Internet PPV purchases of WrestleMania and the other shows.

*House show attendance was up 13% domestically, misleading because they had 11 fewer shows, meaning the higher attended TV tapings make the average look higher. Because of fewer events and smaller overall attendance, arena merchandise was down 7%. This doesn't include WrestleMania, which was down this year due to a lower attendance and gate. International was down 8%

*Licensing was down due to lower video game sales.

*WWE shop revenues increased 33% from $3 million to $4 million because of an increase in orders. A lot of that increase was due to a new distribution model in the U.K. utilizing Amazon
    .

*Bryan and I will be doing an audio on this available this afternoon. A full breakdown of this and more WWE business items will be in next week's Observer.

Is it just me or does it seem like this is absolutely terrible for Canadian fans?

  13. Very tongue in cheek, not something I'd take as him saying he definitively won't return to the WWE. I'm not saying he will return, either, but I do think the possibility exists. I mean, if Bret Hart can reconcile with the WWE, anyone can. But that said, if Punk ever does return, I don't think it will be in the near future.
