  1. Seeing the bright side, and why you should too...

Why would Benning need to save his job? He's given us the best prospect pool we've had in over 15 years. When has Benning ever traded our first? Seriously, get over yourself.
  2. Seeing the bright side, and why you should too...

Firstly, we can't finish last; there's no way we're finishing below Arizona. And no one is saying if we get last we're guaranteed the first overall. Everyone knows how the lottery works by now. Finishing lower does however give us a better shot at a better player.
  3. 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Did you not read what they got for him? 3 firsts and 2 seconds for a team that wouldn't have won with him regardless. Him being traded is no indication he's over rated.
  4. Gutting it and getting rid of a few spare pieces at the trade deadline (Gagner, Vanek, etc) are two completely different things. It makes a lot more sense if you're out of the playoff picture by the deadline to get rid of a few spare pieces to stock up on prospects. It's poor asset management otherwise. "Gutting" the team would be getting rid of Baerstchi, Horvat etc. Getting rid of guys like Gagner, Vanek etc is just good asset management; assuming we're out of the playoff picture. Remember when we got Dahlen for Burrows? Goldobin for Hansen? Was this "gutting" the team? Would you take these trades back? Edit: sorry cdgraham this comment was directed more towards the OP.
  5. Elias Pettersson | C/LW

Do you have a source for this because I've heard the exact opposite.
  6. Canucks release protected list for expansion draft

I don't know, they just got Strome back. Not really much "value" back for a guy putting up 62 points in a season.
  7. Style of Play?

You have to adapt and change with your surroundings. The NHL is transitioning to a younger faster model and I'm happy JB has realised this.
  8. Canucks release protected list for expansion draft

This statement shows how little you know about the Oilers. They'll be lucky to get much back for Eberle and they HAVE to move him or they are going to run into cap issues with Draisatl's new contract this year and McDavid's massive contract the following year. Eberle was absolutely invisible in the playoffs. The only thing you're correct about is the Oilers being a powerhouse but any idiot and their dog can see that.
  9. Friedman thinks Vancouver is interested in Eberle

Not directed at you OP, but after reading these comments, did no one watch him play this playoffs? The guy was invisible and there's a reason Edm wants to get rid of him. Not a player we should be going after.
  10. Nolan/ Nico vs Bo Horvat (Discussion)

I'm not disagreeing with you but this is what JB has stated. I think it's about how he envisions the team in 2+ years. He must feel prospects, UFAs and/or current players will develop into a scoring role. Also, it's generally easier and costs less to find scorers than 1st line playmaking centres.
  11. Proposal: Vancouver - Philly

Pretty sure Simmonds plays on the top 2 lines, not the third. Other users have mentioned that Philly has plenty of D prospects and don't need Tanev. Also, how does a 28 year old Simmonds fit in with our plan of getting younger? Our window is still at least 2-3 years away and Simmonds will be in the downside of his career then.
  12. 5-4-3-2-1 Canucks pick from 1st to 5th!

I can't tell if you're actually this ignorant as to how prospects work or you're just dumb. By your logic Noah Hanifin (taken 5th) is a better prospect than Mitch Marner (taken 4th) purely because he played in the NHL sooner.
  13. I think it depends on the quality of the player and how strong the draft is. For the Matthews, Laines etc there are still the Dylan Stromes, Mitch Marners, Puljujarvi's who don't make the NHL straight out of the draft.
  14. I'm hoping whoever we get spends a year in the minors to develop but that entirely depends on who we get. I think we need at least one more year near the bottom of the league and a shot at a high pick in next years stronger draft.
  15. The Oilers have (almost) nothing to play for. I smell a win for the Canucks coming up.
