  1. I don't believe that the Canucks have to have a great year this year (though it would help), but more so, I think Petey wants to see the direction this team is headed before he commits long term - which is fair. The guy has had 3 coaches over the past two seasons, and he's been on a team that has floundered in mediocrity for years. He wants to win. I think as long as this team shows it is taking a step in the right direction, he will commit to it.
  2. Could be a decent 3rd line centre for the right price.
  3. Simashev is the guy I hope we take. After that there are so many options. I'd be fine with Danielson, Wood, Willander, or any dropper (Benson, Reinbacher, Moore, etc.)
  4. Man. For just a 6th I would have liked to have gotten in on Hayes. Would be a great 3rd line centre and could move up if we shift Miller to the wing from time to time.
  5. It's definitely a huge risk, but if it pays off, it pays off huge. He's still in the Bedard tier for skill, which is the upside, but all the side stuff that is concerning. I don't know if I would have the balls to pull the trigger on drafting Michkov - my bet is one of the teams with multiple 1st takes that chance. Side note, imagine if he falls to 19 and Chicago gets both Bedard and Michkov.
  6. It was in an Athletic article. Would be very interesting if it happened. But if it works out, you’re adding a free 22 y/o rookie on an elc that should be able to step right into your top line in 3 years. That has to be tantalizingly for some gms.
  7. 2x ~1.5M deal? Gets him some guaranteed money and Canucks have a cheap bottom pair option for 2024/25. Pretty much buriable too. Or just walk away.
  8. I've been thinking we could be a good match with Chicago to send Boeser there. With getting Bedard, you have to think Chicago will want to surround him with talent to be successful - not that they expect to be contenders next year, but you want to take advantage of the ELC contract. Would Boeser be at the top of their list though? There are many cap strapped teams and I would expect Chicago to be aggressive - I could even see them targeting Laf from the Rangers or other similar players (former high ranked prospects that are struggling). For me, if Chicago is willing to take the full cap hit for Boeser, I don't care what the return is (as long as it is not cap coming back). The $6.65M in space is asset enough,
  9. The Athletic did a mock draft with their NHL writers making the pick (Paywall) https://theathletic.com/4500204/2023/05/08/nhl-mock-draft-2023-connor-bedard-blackhawks/ 1. Bedard 2. Fantilli 3. Smith 4. Michkov 5. Carlsson 6. Reinbacher (reasoning is that Arizona also has the #12) 7. Benson 8. Dvorsky 9. Leonard 10. Moore 11. Sandin Pellikka 12. Perrault 13. Wood (imagine him with Tage?) 14. Danielson 15. Yager 16. Barlow
  10. This is something I've been debating with myself. If Benson is there at 11, do you take him? He's someone I could definitely see falling.
  11. Signing Livingstone, bringing back Schenn + Juulsen does make Bear more expendable. Could see a Bear extension waiting until last minute unless he takes a haircut
  12. As a Manitoban, and Jets as my #2, I say no to Stanley. He's big. That's it. I'd rather run it back with Bear and Schenn/Juulsen than see Stanley in a Canucks uniform.
  13. https://thehockeywriters.com/2023-nhl-entry-draft-horn-mock-draft-february-2023/ Interesting take. Has us drafting Moore at 9 and Reinbacher at 13. I'm just starting to get into the draft, but this looks to be a solid go if it were to fall that way.
  14. Worth a shot on Hajek. With how our d-core is set up, we need to get creative. It's a low cost add, and should be relatively cheap to resign if we want to retain him. If it doesn't pan out, we can non-qualify him at the end of the year. Low risk, potential moderate return.
  15. On the bright side, Im hopeful he can use this time to get 100% healthy for next year. No mono, no concussions, feet are fine. He's got 6 months and should be well rested and able to get back to it by the time training camps start.
  16. I'd also say we should step in and try to be a 3rd team on any Kane or Toews deal. If we can eat some cap to allow another team to fit them in and get picks/prospects out of the deal then why the heck not?
  17. Showed this to my friend who is a Flames fan. He says: "Don't need Schenn. Don't need AB. Looch is more valuable than the fans of other teams want to admit. He's a big part of the leadership here. Would love to have him back on league min. Our first this year is prob gonna be ~15. Not a terrible pick. And then Wolf is a young goalie but currently on pace to become an all star." I think the wolf is a future all star is premature, but clearly Flames say no.
  18. With Muzzin on LTIR and Brodie on IR, it makes sense that they're kicking the tires. They'd probably want us to retain, which is fine.
  19. Imagine he pulls a Lindros and tells teams he is only willing to sign with Vancouver. It's a huge gamble on his part, but he could just go to college for 4 years and then sign - still 4 years of lost income. I wonder, in that kind of situation, what the cost would be for us to acquire him. The Lindros deal was still a massive haul after he sat out for a year. Heck, Forsberg 1 for 1 would be a steal on its own haha
  20. Love this get for Ottawa. Seems a little low on price though. I know #7oa is a good pick, but i would have thought 'cat would be worth more. Ottawa should be a fun team to watch this year.
  21. I'll admit I know very little about this entire class, but at 15 I am really pulling for Korchinski (LHD). But it looks like most mocks and rankings have him going before us. But he sounds like a great fit. Almost seems like a moderate floor, but high ceiling type pick which is perfect in the mid 1st
  22. I wonder if Buffalo would be interested in taking Dickinson. They're only at a ~$52M hit after the Bishop deal with a 15 man roster. Not saying they need to, they could just top up with UFA's but I can't imagine Buffalo being a lot of players top choice unless they grossly overpay a bunch of guys. Even if we just take back a 7th or swap late round picks. Dickinson can still be a useful player for someone.
  23. Which I would love to get (assuming they're the BPA at our pick), but only (according to Button's list - who is not the standard) 3 above the 20th pick. So, we may be forced to reach on one if we want, or hope one falls to us.. I'll also admit, I know almost nothing about this years prospects so anything I say should be taken with a pile of salt. Super salty lol
