He was just suspended in the playoffs for a brutal elbow to the head

Yeah I saw every game. His arm was down but the thunderbird was kinda bent down reaching for the puck. Looked to me like he tried to line up a big hit and the guy put himself in a bad spot.

im honestly higher on him now after watching the playoffs. Thought he was just all skill boom or bust but the kids got a bit of a chippy side to him. When the opportunity is there he’ll give it to his opponent. He battles pretty hard out there.

Could be a solid sleeper pick for whoever drafts him

Maybe @thad can chime in as he's been watching the Prince George - Tri Cities playoff series. I think that a big playoff run could definitely swing the odds in Dragicevic's favour and see him in the early teens.

I'm also shocked at how few d-men are ranked in the first round. Outside of Reinbacher, you have the two Russian d-men who are prime candidates to fall to the 2nd round. Then there's Axel, Bonk, and Dragicevic. Am I missing anyone?

Yeah that Dragacevic kid has got some talent for sure. Like almost gives you western family Quinn Hughes vibes. Puck on his stick in the Ozone he kinda moves the same way but just not quite the no matter how hard you try you’re not getting close to the puck level Quinn’s on.

One thing I kind of take away from that whole series is any player you draft from that Tri City team will have had outstanding defensive responsibility coaching. That whole team played as well defensively as I’ve ever seen in a junior team. PG had to earn every chance and there were stretches when we couldn’t create a real scoring chance at all. Felt like the old Minnesota Vancouver games sometimes.

If I was building my rankings I’d give a guy like Dragicevic a boost knowing he’s being brought up in a system like that. Was quite impressed with him and the Americans.

Big game for Prince George tonight!

    I'll be cheering for you

Thanks buddy. Actually appreciated that when I saw it earlier. Had to come back and high five after the boys stepped up and took the balance swinging game tonight. What a game. Score looks like an asswhoopin but it really was a close one right to the end. I got me moneys worth on the whl playoff streaming package tonight alone lol. Hats off to both teams. It could have swung either way on some chances.

I don’t know the tech specifics of goaltending but one encouraging thing you saw tonight is Ty young’s ability to step in and rise to the moment for his team. Tonight was a pivotal point in the series and he was huge. Both teams played great, but he made big saves at big moments and stood tall on the pk late in the game. Looks like he’s not the type to get shook and can pull his weight in the big games when you need him the most. I don’t know if he checks all the boxes but he’s checking this one for cougars fans.

If I have any actual draft info to add from the game tonight its every time I watch Heidt, I come away thinking he might be a little bit better than I thought he was.

I decided to jump into HF Boards, I don’t usually but figured I’d give it read.

one player that many are very high on that I’ve yet to see mentioned here is Riley Heldt

looks like he has fantastic numbers this year ( not sure how that compares to others)

anyone have any insight on this player and wether or not he would be an option ?

I’m from Prince George. I went to both of our first round home games against tri city. and watched the 2 away games online. He’s a pretty slick playmaker. I’m no pro scout but I think we’re picking a little high for him though. I don’t know if the floor is there to reinvent himself if he doesn’t end up being that solid 2C playmaker in the nhl.. but again I’m a tradesman not a scout haha. Love the kid though he’s been unreal for us. Breakaway goal in game 4. Had a monster game with the other draft eligible(that I almost like better) Koehn Ziemmer to even the series at 2-2. Those 2 along with our boy Ty Young really lead the cougars to a must needed win in Tri-City. We came out flying and stomped them with those 2 leading the way.

You know who’s a player we need to draft if he’s available with our later picks. Tri City goalie Tomáš Suchanek. I don’t know if I’ve ever looked at a junior goalie and thought this guy is a future nhl star. You just never know.. you watch this guy and just everything about him screams future #1. He almost plays more like an nhl goalie now than a 19yr old in the dub. I dunno it’s weird, watch him and you’ll see what I mean haha

I bought the whl playoff package and been watching hockey every night. You guys should check it out if you haven’t yet. It’s awesome!

  5. I think the fact that he hit big on a first line centre, #1 Dman and a big game goalie wins this argument for Jim already. If we were missing even one of those key pieces  the reason would be we didn’t take enough swings at the draft and we wouldn’t have a real shot at the cup. Sure we could be in better shape but getting the 3 hardest to find pieces of the puzzle really saved his ass in my opinion. He may have traded way to many picks but at least landing Petey Hughes and Demko really gave this next generation a legitimate chance.

He’s going to have to smarten up going forward here though. Need to stock up for when we have to make the do we keep brock or podkolzin type decisions. Hopefully at least one of Klimovich or Lockhart hits by the time Podz and Hogie earn their big one

  6. Not too long ago I heard Elliot say the owners were the ones dead set against it. I think it was on his podcast. Sucks if that’s the case. It would be such a huge boost coming out of the pandemic to let everyone cut dead weight and maybe add a real solid player who was bought out. Wouldn’t the trickle down of teams getting to add guys like Sven or Lucic on affordable show me contracts improve the quality of the game overall? They should just allow it to a point anyways if only for that reason. Maybe you get one every 2 or 3 years but make it a tradable asset so small market teams benefit or well managed teams get rewarded For not needing it.

It’s the best league in the world but it could be better if we didn’t make such a point of punishing teams for things they all do to some degree. The cap is great. Every team has an even chance every season to build a winner. That doesn’t change if you allow buy outs. Everyone still gets an even clean slate next year to try and contend. Nobody gets to sandbag the league like the avalanche 20yrs ago haha. Plus just think of how much better the deadlines/draft/July1st would be.

    Legalize recreational buy outs!

A multi-year flat cap agreement would have to come with two compliance buyouts for sure.  With the young talent in the Canucks pipeline and guys like Miller and Bo on great contracts this could be very good for us.

What would make it very interesting is if teams could trade their unused compliance spots.

I think no matter what they should throw everyone a bone and grant a couple compliance buyouts. This whole situation screws every single party involved. Let’s be realistic, even when we get going again, things probably won’t be the same for a few years. Kinda steals a good chunk of guys careers/fans watching careers. Why not give everyone a lil bonus to compensate for the dead spot forced into everyone’s career.

Anderson fan but yucky. He’s had a really bad year. Last year might have been his career high. He would take a decent prospect for sure but Gauds, Virtanen, Boeser? No way

Yeah I only throw it out there to show what it would take for it to be worthwhile on their end, they need someone that can play now or they probably don’t trade him. If Jake finished the year on a heater and then stumbles next year and gets hurt, we wouldn’t throw him in the bargain bin. Better off hanging on to him and looking for a bounce back unless you’re getting a young impact player back.. Just saying If we were to do it, that’s the most comfortable angle I could see to roll the dice on it. If I really believe in Anderson and think we’d be scoring another JT Miller like win and how confident are we in Tyler madden working out.. If both those things happen, we likely do come out ahead. at the same time if one day we have to chose between gaudette and madden, that deal might be better made then. So In the end I still probably don’t pull the trigger but I can see a case for it.

Id rather have josh anderson tbh

I’d love him too but we’re going to have to give them at least gaudette or virtanen to make it worthwhile for them. They still probably don’t do it. They’re going to be asking for Boeser. Im still not sure it’s really worth it but here’s a gamble I don’t completely hate .. Pick up Hawyrluk on waivers today then trade Gaudette for Anderson.

  10. That’s a dirty play, no question about it. I hope he’s not marchand/kadri-ish all the time but I love seeing that edge from him. Maybe we got a guy that will go apesh*t in the playoffs and have the monster games you need from your support players.

Can you imagine if Pod actually developed into a Mark Stone caliber player? That’d be the kind of addition to the young core that could put this team over the top.

Exactly the type of addition we’ll need at the time too. In 2 years we’ll have 3 rock solid young centres, a high end offensive defence man and one 30+ sniper. The hard to get parts are there. A tenacious skilled Russian winger will be just what the doctor ordered. If he hits the ground running and we got a goalie, we’ll beat the wheels off the pacific.

I'm confident Tryamkin will come back. But the big question to me is will he stay? If he's back on a 2 year deal my ideal goal. Does he stay after that terms up? I'm not sold he will at this stage.

If he’s playing well enough that we want him to stay, then he’s going to have a really fun 2 years here. Young Russian star Vasili joins the team in the second year on a team just finding its legs. This guys going to have a blast in Van as long as he takes it seriously and shows up in nhl shape with something to prove.

man if we get Nikita back and sign Myers, in 2 years we could have Myers Tryamkin Bo  Miller Podkolzin virtanen beagle roussel mckewen. That’s a pretty rugged team surrounding Petey and Quinn.

Could maybe see Byram getting past 5, but not 6.

If they are moving up its gotta be for Byram, why would they move up for Zegras or Broberg.

Yzerman has liked Podkolzin right? We trade up for Byram & they move down for Pod?

He probably stays and drafts Byram if he’s still there at 6. Im thinking Broberg went up a tier on Jim’s list and he’s trying to get him before Edmonton.
