Massive explosion shocks Beirut, capital city of Lebanon
Ralph. replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in Off-Topic General
By the sounds of it the public are fed up with the endless corruption leftover from the close of their civil war 30 years ago. I guess the mishandling of the ammonium nitrate and subsequent explosion are just the proverbial back-breaking straw? Crazy time over there now, even by Lebanese standards. -
There has to be more to this than being tagged in a social media post. If that's something that constitutes harassment in this day and age, then how soft is our society becoming? I wish I could say I needed time from work to recover from the trauma of being tagged online somewhere. **Granted that this is a quote from Pyne himself and likely isn't the whole story, I'll give the complainants the benefit of the doubt for the time being. But either way, a one-year suspension seems way overkill to me. Edit: Welp, with more details coming out it indeed appears this guy does have some serious issues he should be dealing with.

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread
Ralph. replied to The Stork's topic in Off-Topic General
He was relieving and it looks like it was 2/3rds of an inning, so it would make total sense if that was why. Edit: From Sportsnet article: https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-ken-giles-leaves-game-vs-rays-right-elbow-soreness/ -

Yeah, by the time Moran or Yamaguchi could've been ready, it was probably too late. Oh well, looking forward to getting home from work for the next one. It'll be fun with the condensed schedule going forward; a game almost every day for two months! -

That was hard to watch. Giles was all over the map; they should've taken him out sooner. Grichuk left too, apparently tweaking his back somewhere. -
[Report] Lukas Krajicek announces retirement
Ralph. replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Been waiting for that one! Saw he was still playing some time last year and thought, "Wow, there's a blast from the past." Ten years since his last NHL game, about three and a half since his last KHL game. -
How about this kid going 308 Km/H in Ontario? https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/unbelievable-young-driver-caught-allegedly-speeding-308-km-h-on-ontario-highway-1.4932981 Absolutely insane and incredibly dangerous for everyone else on the road, let alone the kids driving the vehicle. He should lose his license for a year, if you ask me.

MP Chandra Arya wants to tax Canadians abroad!
Ralph. replied to canuckster19's topic in Off-Topic General
Elected positions should have salary caps. Find a reasonable formula; something like the mean wage of their constituents from the most recent tax year + 15%. Only way to get a raise is to actively push for economic success of your people. Just to spitball. I agree with you though — It's supposed to be public service, not public pillage. If it's such an "honor" to represent your people, the position and compensation shouldn't be molded to attract those that will abuse it. -
Nope. never.

There is, but I hear the other end is a cat.

Better chance of making the NHL in that hole right now.
