  1. This series is becoming the Bob story. He is basically been unbeatable unless the other team gets a deflection off a unexpected shot. Even then, he is getting most of the deflections. And while Carolina is not cashing in on their opportunities, the Panthers are... they have a better set of goalscorers, in fact in the league, there is not a better group of players who can score. Maybe not Superstars, but the entire top six can put the puck in the net. Carolina D is better by a whisker, but the goaltending and forwards for Florida are superior.
  2. Trev took plenty of hits and plenty of cheapshots.... especially in '94... but he was an extremely durable player and he never complained for one second. He had broken ribs and torn rib cartilege for the last 4 games of the '94 final. But he was still the best Canuck in game 7 scoring both the Canucks' goals for a total of 12 goals and 13 assists in the playoffs.
  3. Tkachuk had a cr*p game... but he is a goalscorer and will take his chances where he finds them. Aho did not take advantage of his chances... had plenty.
  4. If Bob keeps playing like this, the Panthers will win this series. Carolina had the majority of the puck possession and the shots advantage... but didn't cash in because Bob was standing tall. Florida had fewer chances but their goalscorers have better finish and Andersson although he was playing well, is not the same quality as Bob.
  5. This is the correct answer. We have the puck movers... now we need the muscle who can control the boards, clear the front of the net and deal with the heavy forecheck. Not to mention, we need muscle who can come to Hughes' rescue when the opposing forwards try to put a beating on him... which WILL happen in the playoffs.
  6. Big strong Canadian D-men. Look at the guys on the Vegas Blueline. Most of them are Canadian, most 6' 2" or over.
  7. I think the Oilers will be back next year. This years team was an improvement on last years... even though they lost. With Skinner, they have a decent goalie who won't cost them a lot... he got a lot of valuable experience. They picked up Ekholm, who is a good reliable D-Man... who should be good for two years. Bouchard should get better, Nurse and Kulak will be about the same. They want to pick up another decent D-man. They also need to find secondary scoring in the playoffs... they were able to solve that in the regular season, but guys like Hyman, Kane, Nugent-Hopkins, etc. could not consistently score in either this series or against the Kings. You can't depend on your two big guys in the playoffs, you need to get contributions up and down the lineup. Oilers are not done as a Contender... I am sure they learned lots.
  8. Vegas has Hill... Carolina has Andersson... who is better. And Carolina's defense is just as good. Plus they have Aho... who is a Star... and the whole team plays a really good system. Florida has Bob... and they have a very good defense too... plus a really strong forward group who all can score... plus play defense really well.
  9. I don't have a problem with homers like Singh. At least they are honest... Compare them to the slimey weasel MacLean... who jumps on the bandwagon of whoever's winning.... after of course, sucking up to the Leafs in the first couple rounds. MacLean doesn't care about any team... all he cares about his position of power at Hockey Night. Most cliched commentator out there... always coming out with his little stories about player background... which anybody could research... trying to pretend he is some Hockey Encyclopaedia.
  10. Bettman is charging highway robbery for a new franchise so he has to throw a bone to any new owner so they get decent revenue out of the gate. Hence the expansion draft allows premium choices to the new team. No expansion team gets a superstar, but they get a solid supporting cast.
  11. Well, I will admit I was surprised the Oilers coudn't do it this year. I think the missing element was Kane... he was not a factor at all... either he is hurt or he just had a horrible playoffs. And their defense just could not consistently deal with the Vegas forecheck... they were scrambling too much. The Golden Knights are a very good team... last year they didn't make the playoffs, but the previous four years they have been right there. With the Oilers gone, my prediction is an Eastern team will win it all. I don't think Vegas or either Seattle/Dallas can beat Carolina/Florida.
  12. Are you kidding? He is the recipient of McDavid's passes more than anyone else. And he won the Hart and Art Ross... with McDavid as his partner... so its not like he doesn't get his share of the limelight. These guys clearly are great friends, and enjoy playing together. I expect the dynamic duo will stay on the same team for the forseeable future.
  13. I like Carolina, healthy they should get past Florida, but difficult to say where this series will go. Panthers are playing well and they don't seem to have any injuries.
  14. As I said after the last game... Leafs weren't gonna do it. Mathews did not step up... Marner did not step up. Tavares did not step up. Nylander finally got going... too late. Only guy on the team who consistently brought it was Reilly. I thought Woll played extremely well for being catapulted into a bad situation... but he is no Bobrovsky. Leafs had to get rid of Frederic Andersson because of their CAP spending on the top six... another example of Dumb-A$$ planning... now Andersson is playing well for Carolina. The logical result which should follow from another premature Leaf exit is the firing of Dumb-A$$.
  15. F*CKING CBC.... they think the center of the world is Toronto... so we have to watch the Laffs lose rather than the start of the Oilers game. What are those losers going to do now that the Chosen Ones are no longer relevant?
  16. fixed it. McDavid is the best offensive player in the league... yeah, sometimes he's selfish, sometimes he's lazy defensively. But he put up 64 goals and 153 points and drove the Oilers offense. Nobody has had those types of point totals since Mario... McDavid is offensively off the charts for this league. The closest guy to him was 25 points behind... that that guy was Draisaitl... who McDavid set up more than anyone else. Sure Crosby was a better overall player when Sid was in his prime... and a someone who I have more respect for personally... but right now... the man is McDavid... for all his flaws.
  17. What the Canucks need is D... and the Rangers are not going to trade any of theirs. We won't get Lafreniere unless for some reason NY gets infested with zombie worms and Sather loses his mind and offers him for a bucket of pucks. The Canucks need to get their own CAP problems solved, preferably by unloading one of our spare forwards and acquiring an inexpensive but reliable 3/4 D man.
  18. Disagree 100% on all your points. Whatever you may think of the character of McDavid... he is a superstar who inspires his team mates. And Bouchard is a terrific power play quarterback... who is learning how to play defense... same way as Hughes learned.
  19. Watching this game and both this series and the series against the Kings, I believe the Oilers are learning how to play playoff hockey. They stumble, they get up, they stumble, they get up again... each time they learn a little bit more. I think this team has just too much talent not to succeed... either this year or next....they have to beat themselves to lose. And they are learning how to avoid doing that. Previous years they either didn't have the goaltending, or they didn't have the defense. This year, the defense is not worldbeating in its own end, but it gets the job done most nights... Offensively it is excellent. And now they have a goaltender in Skinner who is young, who is learning too... and who doesn't quit. Again, not a worldbeater, but a decent netminder. When you combine that with the superstars up front... plus a really good supporting cast of other forwards... then you have a team which can go all the way if they put in the work in their own end. They still have a lot to learn in the way of team defense, but they ARE learning.
  20. Can't believe the amount of fawning and gushing about how wonderful the Leafs are for being down 3-1. And listening to the Leafs post-game... I got the impression they were congratulating themselves too much... If this team is really going to do it, Marner would have replied in 3 second clips... with no blah blah about how good a job they did. Sorry, I don't believe Toronto can pull it off...
  21. Like I said, Putin is not a Nazi. He has his own form of one party Fascism... in Russia. Is Putin a Fascist?... definitely. Russia is cleverly disguised as a democracy for its own citizens... although the veneer is getting a little thin lately. But imagine a state where all the media are controlled and broadcast pro-Putin propaganda 24/7, where the Judicial system is controlled, and anyone who opposes Putin is thrown in jail on trumped up charges, where anyone else who can't be thrown in jail is assassinated by unknown mysterious forces, and where anyone who wants to do any kind of business has to put money in the pocket of Putin's appointed buddies... who kick it upstairs to him. The good news is this whole rotten State is about to come crashing down. Putin's ego caused him to think he could invade Ukraine and crush them... but he forgot that the formerly powerful Red Army was a hollow shell... after graft and corruption siphoned all the money needed to keep it modern and up to date away and into Swiss Bank accounts and Putin palaces. Russians are now paying the price... in the form of the blood of their young men. They are starting to wake up... when they do there will be a bloody revolution, just like there was in 1917. Hopefully the world isn't destroyed as Putin and his cronies clutch at every last, (Nuclear) straw, as they go down.
