  1. Brandon Sutter? Nasty style of play?
  2. Underrated around here. May require seasoning, but I'd surprised if he didn't carve out an NHL career. He doesn't have pure offensive skillset to be a top 6 player, but his IQ would be above the typical bottom 6ers. I think he'll top out as a solid 3C (some stints at 2C) with leadership abilities. In terms of value (not playing style), I compare to a Laich or a Stoll.
  3. I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of him. (thought time is slowly running out for him I feel)
  4. Reilly Smith didn't put up special numbers until this season. Gustav Nyquist, while destroying the AHL, didn't put up notable numbers in the AHL until this season. (6 pts in 22 games in 2012/13 season) Its not uncommon for some players to take longer. Not that I'm saying Schroeder will be like any of those two players. (I agree a good chance he busts)But given he and Dalpe were essentially stapled to the 4th line for most of the season, its not surprising they didn't put up any meaningful numbers.
  5. Pace, and points are not quite the same. He hasn't broken 50 points previously. If Kesler is moved, I say keep Santo. Not a building block for the future though...no NMC, no term, low caphit is what we should offer.
  6. Torts. I could go either ways. I will say the SIGNIFICANT drop in offensive production is due to Torts and his system. This needs to be addressed. However, I do agree this core is stale and needs a mixup. In the stretch to make the playoffs/stop losing skids, we saw this core fold time and time again. (how many times did we say "rock bottom" this year) Not enough pushback, digging deep.
  7. I sort of agree. Not the old part, but the stale part. Similar to how AV was let go. Not a bad coach, but time to move on. Time to move on from some of these players. The reason they typically fire the coach, before attempting a roster overhaul, is because its much easier to do.
  8. Can't have it both ways. Canucks were still high in the standings yet again, after a cup run/back-to-back president's trophies. Have to pay a price to try and go on a run. People kept complaining about secondary scoring. Gillis gets secondary scoring. Its too bad Roy wasn't a great fit here, but it was the right move. We traded Connauton, who was a redundant asset at the time for a rental. I'm fine with that cost.
  9. This. Its not all about talent...development of prospects is critical.
  10. I've thought about that too. Booth is not the player he once was. But he's not all bad, just vastly overpaid. I'd like him as a 4LW option at 1M'ish
  11. I'd like to see a 3L next year of higgins horvat hansen/santorelli
  12. sedin sedin kassian/jensen burrows 2C jensen/kassian higgins horvat santorelli booth matthias hansen
  13. 4 years. 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.5 cap hit
  14. Number one goalies don't hold THAT much trade value tbh. Especially those that.... a) Have not had more than a full season handling the starter's share of games A declining vet nearly on the wrong side of 30, with a long-term cap hit that is now punishable following the new CBA
  15. This. Prior to our epic collapse of 2014, I didn't mind the way we were playing. Solid defensively. Not bad (but not elite) offensively at ES. Main concern all year has been PP though. Its been consistently terrible all year. Disproportionately bad to how we were in the standings. Now this has come to equilibrium. Aiye, Torts (and Sully) seem like Aquaman's intervention. Gully seems more of a Gillis guy. Wouldn't be surprised if they replace Torts with him.
  16. Kesler really needs to keep quiet with those comments. If he really wants out, it only hurts his cause. Will affect the offers being made (lowball), and ultimately delays any legitimate prospal put on the table. MG is not going to trade him for nothing.
  17. I wouldn't put too much stock into rumors. That said, if some of these offers were true I'm glad MG didn't pull the trigger. Isn't some requirement that Kesler had to be traded at deadline.
  18. I don't know whats worse, the Canucks crumbling, or its Fan Base crumbling.^
  19. Hard to say. Wait until this year plays out. I'd like to see him with playmaking type (Schroeder) first.
  20. Didn't get to catch the game. Two questions: -How was Tan Man? (I saw he logged alot of ice time again, with some PP time) -I know its early to say, but does it look like we miss Edler back there?
  21. Yes, but do not pay him like a top-6 centre. do not give term. do not give a ntc. I think it would be ridiculous to let him go, simply to make room for youth. On the chance that Horvat et al, somehow aren't ready...then what? I'd rather keep him, with the expectation that he might move down the depth chart. Santo as a 4C?....that would be a ridiculously good 4C option. sliding Richie over to LW
  22. Really depends how the Canucks feel about his potential and development. He could absolutely go back to junior, but he could also contribute in a bottom 6 role. 4th line at best. tbh Horvat is more ready for 3C than Gaunce. If they project him to be a bottom 6 player, then he's not that far off his potential. Acceleration needs work. Don't necessarily think a year in junior is what would improve that. I'd be fine with him splitting 4C/4W duties with Richardson.
  23. I think Gaunce can become a useful player for us. Mid 6, but optimally a 3C... Stoll? Laich? He could contribute now, but its not like an extra year in junior would 'ruin' him If Canuck brass projects him to be a good 3C, jumping in at 4C won't exactly be the worst thing. Play a similar role to the 3C shutdown centre, without carrying all the weight defensively. (alot to ask for a youngster) Hard to say who makes the cut this fall. (esp with Booth out, new coaches etc...)
  24. I don't really think MG cares what people think of him. You know what Grabner and Hodgson are doing? Helping their teams LOSE games. (lol. and a high lotto pick.....Damn thats helpful!) He also traded for another prospect who is still in the NHL (Kassian). He also signed an undrafted prospect who is still in the NHL (Tanev). I think draft position matters more to fans/media than general managers. Draft position might be indicative of potential and expectations, but at the end of the day its all about performance and results.
  25. I like Schroeder. I like his work ethic. I like that he's paid his dues, and doesn't come across as entitled. I liked that he's made efforts to round out his two way game. Whether or not he's in the long-term plans remain to be seen. He's got skill. He's got speed. I think ultimately he'll have to produce to to stay longer with us. But I'm glad he's getting his shot now. He's earned it.
