As the Capitals prepare for tonight's game they will be welcoming back veteran free agent signing Matt Hunwick. The 32 year old signed a two year contract as an unrestricted Free Agent to join the Capitals blue line in the offseason but has been forced to miss 15 straight games with a concussion. "It's been tough" stated Hunwick. "You sign and you're real excited to contribute right away and then an injury takes you out early and you don't really get to show what you can do." With team captain Ryan Ellis out for the majority of the season the Caps have had to patch together an inexperienced group of defensemen for big minutes. Since Hunwick has been unavailable, Washington has relied on rookie 7th round pick Joakim Ryan as the third dman in terms of minutes averaging 17:54 per night. Hunwick was averaging 18:18 previous to his injury. "It's given us the chance to see what some of these newer guys can do" said defense coach Scott Stevens "We really like our group but we like to find particular situations to use Djoos and Ryan in as they adapt to the league. They've done a good job but Matty's return will really solidify our group". This is what the Capitals blue line looks like going into tonight: Keith Yandle - John Klingberg Joakim Ryan - Matt Hunwick Radko Gudas - Trevor vanRiemsdyk Christian Djoos(day-to-day)

Kyle Turris will now be on the same team as Ryan Ellis. Just became a much bigger Preds fan and a much smaller Sens fan.

The Washington Capitals are coming out of the gate hot once again this season. Last season the Caps had another early playoff exit after winning their first Presidents Trophy in over 8 years. "It was tough" said Chris Kreider who has spent his entire career in Washington. "We thought we had a pretty good chance and we lost a close series. I'm happy to be back here with the same team and continue to get back there". A few new comers are having excellent starts to the season for the Capitals; most notably early calder candidate Clayton Keller. "Its nice when young players can get out there and score some goals" said veteran forward Jakob Silfverberg. "When other guys are scoring sometimes it takes some pressure off when I'm not getting the pucks in myself" Silfverberg, who has been a notoriously slow starter; hasn't scored yet this season and only has 3 assists. "Jakob's been such a good player for us on both ends of the ice for so long that we aren't worried when he's not scoring" said Kreider. "Fortunately for us he tends to turn it up when it matters." Valtteri Filppula was brought in to replace Andrew Cogliano on the third line this season and has filled the void quite nicely. The Finnish forward already has 5 goals in his first 11 games of the season. Filp hasn't scored more than 12 goals in any of his past three NHL seasons. "I like the role, I have great linemates, and I get to play the centerman position" said Filppula "We all work hard to make sure we control the play every shift we're out there. We're real focused. They've been playing together for so long it makes it easier. I feel like the kid on the line". With a deep blend of skill and experience the Capitals are determined to make sure that this season finishes better than last season.

Rumour: With dman Ryan Ellis expected to miss the first 4 - 6 months of the season the Capitals may be interested in trading for a defenseman to fill the void. Teams with defense available feel free to let me know.

I posted my updated lineup on the previous page but outside of that here are the mistakes I noticed: Valtteri Filppula is currently spelled "Filpulla" on the spreadsheet. I have a player named Daniel O'Regan but he is currently listed as "Dylan O'Regan" Jean-Sebastien Dea's contract is listed at 0.99 but I signed him at 0.7865 Filip Hronek and Sami Niku are both unsigned prospects that I drafted in the most recent draft but are not listed on my sheet. Sorry for giving you extra work but thank you in advance

HEY GUYS JUST A HEADS UP: I know in the past I have been confused by this rule and I don't want anyone else to be dissapointed if they lose any of their RFA's to UFA's accidentally. Offering Restricted Free Agents a multi-year contract does not qualify them. In order to qualify your RFA's make sure you send them a one year contract offer worth the amount it takes to qualify that particular player. Maybe even double check. I have before thought that I had qualified my high profile RFA's and almost accidentally lost them to UFA. Cheers!
