Signing Niku kick starts our 2018 offseason. Our 2017 4th round pick had an exceptional rookie season in the AHL becoming only the second rookie to ever win the Eddie Shore Award as the best defensemen in the league. We are very excited to watch his continued development and are hoping he can add to our young and inexperienced group of defensemen looking to establish themselves.

Congratulations to @ActionJax09 on a well deserved playoff series win. Obviously, a pretty gut wrenching way to see me Caps go down. We had another great season but the East is a beast and we didn't quite have the weapons or the fire power that some other teams had in the first round this year. With the majority of our core locked up and a very inexperienced group of up and coming defensemen both on our NHL team and within our system; we believe that we are set up to continue to be a very competitive team. Thank You to all the executives and the other GM's for continuing to put in the consistent effort to make this such a truly incredible league. We will have discussions with our upcoming free agents and continue to evaluate our roster and make decisions accordingly. All inquiries are welcomed though major changes are not expected at this point. Thanks again and good luck to the remaining teams. Go Jets Go!

Two of my best players: Yandle and Klingberg are right on the edge right now!

Once again buyers at the deadline, the Caps did what they could to once again compete for the cup while also setting the team up for the future. The biggest piece moved out was Zetterberg. We weren't going to give up Zetterberg without receiving a viable roster replacement. He brings us great leadership and versatility and we know in the Eastern Conference all the production You can get is essential. With that being said Koivu sort of works as a perfect replacement. The biggest differences between Koivu and Zetterberg are team and term. We would have only likely been able to keep Zetterberg for one more season. After that Laine and Nylander are due for raises and we likely would not be able to afford him. Giving us the opportunity to leverage him for a player who could play the same role, will likely provide for us in the playoffs this season, and has the significantly more manageable term on his contract made this deal very attractive for out club. After we traded JT Compher earlier this season we opened up a hole organizationally. We really didn't have any surefire prospects on flexible contracts to develop and become products of the Washington Capitals system. Thompson is a guy that we targeted to fill that role and we anticipate that he will be a Capital for a long long time. The development of a large handful of young defensemen led us to trading vanRiemsdyk and bringing in Raffl. We feel that with our depth on defense that at least one guy was going to have to go before next season and TVR was that guy. Raffl is a versatile and very responsible piece that we like having on our side that has the skill set to play throughout the lineup. Thank you firstly to Mike as well as all the other participants in this league who work so hard to make this happen. Capitals Current Lineup: E. Kane - K. Turris - W. Nylander C. Kreider - M. Koivu - P. Laine R. Dzingel - V. Filppula - J. Silfverberg A. Roussel - A. Copp - M. Karlsson M. Raffl Z. Kassian (inj) J. Klingberg - R. Ellis K. Yandle - R. Gudas C. Djoos - M. Grzelcyk M. Hunwick K. Lehtonen M. Murray (inj) IR: A. Lowry

When Mike trades "future considerations" does that mean cheaper contracts and maybe a UFA in the offseason?

@Mike Vanderhoek Hey man, probably not your top priority right now with the trade deadline going on but i just checked my spreadsheet and my "unsigned prospects" list is empty. Both Filip Hronek and Sami Niku should he listed in that category. Thanks!
  13. We're all entitled to our opinion but I'm definitely not looking at the trade from a bias perspective. Myers, Roslovic, Armia and Lemieux is a huge package. How's bogo playing though? Wpg loved him but he had a substance abuse problem.
  14. Tyler Myers is a very good dman. Armia is a very skilled, big bodied, young forward who is very strong around the walls. Lemieux is only I'm the AHL because the jets have one of the deepest lineups in the league. Jets used the 1st round pick to draft Roslovic. Winnipeg is beyond thrilled with we acquired in that deal.
