  4. Welcome to the first installment of "The Week That Was..." presented by yours truly. This is one of my first blog entries, so it may not be as amazing as some of the others out there, but I will try my best to create a blog that appeals to everyone in more ways than one. -- March 13: Ottawa @ Vancouver Outcome: 5-1 W Goal Scorers: Ottawa: J.Speeza Vancouver: M.Samuelsson(2), A.Burrows, D.Sedin, S.Salo The Canucks first game back at GM Place after the extended road trip, an NHL record 14 games, was one to remember for many Canucks fans. Coming onto the ice to a roar from the Canucks faithful, the Canucks came out gunning, pumped up after the recognition of their Olympic Medalists before the game. By having the lead after the the first period, all seemed well before Jason Speeza scored an highlight reel goal, bringing the Senators back into the game, tying it back up at one apeice. However, the Canucks answered only 6:12 after the Speeza tally, and did not look back, scoring four unanswered goal to cruise to victory infront of the Canuck Faithful at GM Place. -- March 14: Calgary @ Vancouver Outcome: 3-1 W Goal Scorers: Calgary: R.Regehr Vancouver: D.Sedin, R.Kesler, H.Sedin Playing back to back games was not something new to the Canucks, however, playing back to back games at home was something that the Canucks had not done in over a month and a half. Facing off against a division rival that was fighting for a playoff spot and needed the two points desperately was not what the Canucks wanted to run into in the latter half of a back to back. However, like many times before this season, the Canucks battled hard, and put the peddal to the medal and took it to the Flames. The Sedins both produced well, as the Canucks picked up the valueable two points, which the Flames desperately needed, but the Canucks needed them also, as the surging Colorado Avalanche were closing the gap between themseleves and the Canucks, which was at only a mere 3 points. -- March 16: New York Islanders @ Vancouver Outcome: 5-2 L Goal Scorers: New York: D.Reese, J.Tavares(2), M.Moulson, F.Meyer Vancouver: A.Burrows, K.Wellwood With the Islanders coming in with nothing to lose, expectations were that the Canucks would easily walk through the Islanders and prepare themselves for a matchup against the First Place Sharks on Thursday night. However, this was not the case, as the Islanders came out gunning, and seemed like the more desperate team. John Tavares lit up the Canucks for 5 points, getting in on every goal they scored. Considering he came into the game in a scoring slump, Tavares was the talk of the game, getting two goals and three assists. -- March 18: San Jose @ Vancouver Outcome: 3-2 W Goal Scorers: San Jose: R.Clowe, J.Pavelski Vancouver: A.Edler, R.Kesler, R.Johnson A much intisipated matchup between two Western Conference powerhouses, the Canucks and Sharks lived up to the hype and played a great game. Although not applying pressure early, the Sharks came out strong for the third period, where they were down by two goals. However, Captain Lu closed the door, stopping 11 of 12 third period shots, leading the Canucks to victory in regulation. With the two points, the Canucks moved within 5 points of the Conference Leading Sharks, who have been on a downward spiral since the Olympic Break. -- Major Injures: M.Samuelsson Call Up: M.Grabner Trade/Signing: Ryan Kesler signed an extention with the club for 6 years at $30M, with an average cap hit at $5M. -- Sources: TSN.ca Canucks.com --
