  1. I still think Juolevi will pan out to be a quality player. It's funny how people understand the old saying that D take longer to develop, yet are simultaneously extremely impatient with him at barely 22 years old.

Jake's development has been noticeable though. Wishing OJ good health over the next bunch of years.

It's tough when you're supposed to be a stud and the best of the class on D, when others like Sergachev/ McAvoy/ Chychrun are already killing it and people see the guy drafted after, Tkachuk, as a guy who can fill a perceived need

It's definitely tough when guys drafted around you guy go on to have great success, but as a Canuck fan that's honestly nothing new. I really think Olli's got a good chance of making the bigs next season. It's one thing to hear about a guy and see tape, it's another to get a second camp with a guy in a single season. Green, the other coaching staff, and management are currently seeing lots of him. If he busts his ass and does what's asked of him in the offseason I see him making it, if only for cap reasons.

I expect two spots will open up, Fanta's and Stecher's. Love Stech but I think he'll be a cap casualty as management tries to fit Marky, Tanev, and Toffoli. I'm expecting Rathbone will spend at least a season in Utica or overseas (if the AHL doesn't start back up in some capacity), but I imagine he'll get a long look. I'll be surprised if any additions to our D come from outside the organization. Rafferty, Juolevi, Brisebois and Rathbone will all be pushing hard.

I'm in Jake's corner too. He took steps forward this season, there are still inconsistencies in his game and he's still got growing up to do, but I don't expect people to have everything pulled together at almost 24 millionaires or not. I certainly didn't, I still don't. If his progression stalls and we have to make a tough decision down that road we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
