If you're a whiskey/scotch drinker, which is your favourite? What's something you'd recommend to anyone? What's something you'd steer everyone away from?

Man, if I had the dough I'd have a collection like one of these. A man can only dream.

Right? It's nuts what some people can accumulate
I think I'm at 19 bottles of whiskey/scotch, plus a bunch of gin and other stuff
I don't go too high, I'm usually in the 40-bit over 100 tops range but I'm not averse to going cheaper for liqueurs and the like
Props to those who can afford to spend a ton, I ain't got that kind of dosh

Chicken Hawaiian BBQ pizza from Jim’s Pizzeria is my go to here in Chilliwack!
@luckylager @Drive-By Body Pierce Totally agree on fully loaded type pizzas a little of everything brings the noise and always satisfies!
Honourable mention : Just a classic cheese with 5 or 6 good quality cheeses is a good way to test a pizza place!

If you had to eat a single food for two weeks what would it be

I don't care how old you are, but I'm curious as to what your drink of choice is.

How you doin' CDC? It's been like 2-3 days

It's weird to think I've been reading posts from this place for eleven years now, time sure does fly.

Yeah, the food's nice. My stomach has troubles when I go back to western grub, too much. The big attraction to me however, is how much mellower people are over here. Back home, felt like people have gotten to the point of arguing/expert debate over the f***in'weather.
If folks are kind & easygoing, I'll subsist eating damn-near anything...

Knowledgeable Bo of the CDC forum, what is your daily wisdom?

The housing market is &^@#ed, the rental market is &^@#ed, and now everything's going to get more expensive because the cost of gas is &^@#ed. What a perfect era to be in my early 30's.

That's my goal, to go back for a bachelors. Beyond that? I'd rather not, we'll see. At this point education's likely my best bet to do more than keep ahead above water financially going forward.
We're just starting to feel the economic results of the Russian war imo, and thus far it's just gas prices. It won't stay that way.

I question where all this praise for Ryan Johnson as Utica/Abbortsford's GM comes from tbh. And I question our ability to develop young talent in general, I hope it gets better under Rutherford and co.
Utica/Abbotsford has been awful at developing NHL players for us since being acquired. Though it doesn't help that some of our youth have developed in the NCAA, or over in Europe. Many of our prospects are still playing in European leagues.
Yes, we've had young, top talent skip over the AHL entirely. But the entire point of having an AHL farm team in the first place is to try and develop players who aren't good enough to jump into the NHL right away into NHL players, and Utica/Abbotsford simply hasn't/isn't doing much of that. One could blame drafting to an extent, but that's beyond the reach of AHL level executives and coaching staff.
Ownership spent plenty of money to grab their own farm team, set up shop in Utica, and then move them to Abbotsford. Hopefully there's more emphasis on actually getting more of our prospects to Abbotsford going forward. And maybe even changes related to how our staff approach the development of drafted players.

Having Green around didn't help, but some of it falls on the Benning management team too. Who they acquired, who they acquired to play where, which prospects got called up, ect. And obviously their endorsement of Green's coaching staff.
I don't think one can argue that Utica/now Abbotsford has done a good enough job with what they've had. Sure, they haven't all been blue chip prospects, but what's the point in having your own affiliate if it's not going to polish some of your rougher prospects into viable players?
AHL management and staff sign players to AHL prospects and coach, they don't draft NHL prospects. They work with what they're given, and if other affiliates around the league can manage under the same arrangement I don't see why Utica/Abbotsford should get a pass.
Our affiliate staff should be looked at, just as the NHL staff are/have been. It starts from the top, here's hoping JR is thorough. Because regardless of who's running Abbotsford, we need better results if we want an extensive competitive window. We need players coming up through the AHL, not just the NCAA or via Europe.
-
@Coconuts Your demanding a built racecar from tractor parts.
-
I'm not demanding anything, I just expect better going forward because for whatever reason(s) one of our development avenues hasn't been producing usable NHL players
And yes, that is problematic considering the investment that goes into having your own affiliate and all that entails
If we want to be a competitive team more than the odd handful of years we need to develop our prospects better
-
I'm actually looking forward to see who Canada sends for the Olympics. Instead of NHL talent I get to see a bunch of guys who'd never be considered, and that's pretty neat in it's own way.

Watch Florida win the draft lottery, which means Montreal gets Bedard. Imagine getting a potential lottery pick for Ben Chiarot.

@Dazzle you absolutely know he's going to Anaheim or San Jose with Fantilli or San Jose drafting 2nd or 3rd just so we can watch Bedard/Fantilli and McDavid torch this team for the next decade or more
Bedard/McTavish/Zegras/Gaucher/Pastujov/Perreault/Tracey all at forward and then that defense of Hinds/Zellweger/Mintyukov/Helleson with not a single one of them currently over the age of 21.
That's not including whoever they draft this year as well with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds and their entire roster over the age of 25 up for grabs including Shattenkirk/Klingberg who will return at least late 1sts
I am honestly saddened by how fast and efficiently Anaheim turned their entire prospect pool around while still holding additional picks this and next year without making any major moves but having assets ready to go to cup contending teams
-
@Warhippy As much as Benning had done a better job with the draft, Anaheim has nailed with almost every single pick in recent history, similar to how TBL have been doing it.
-
@Dazzle, funny enough if you go back last year. Anaheim was 2nd in our division heading in to March 3rd. But if you go back to 2019. Anaheim had already started shedding players/vets/contracts for picks and prospects. They in turn signed replacement players to single and 2 year term contracts (I think the max prior to this year was a 3 year)
Every single trade they made was towards futures away from Getzlaf and the old core.
https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/ducks
They made absolutely no compunctions against signing and trading players or shedding aging players for picks the second they could. THAT is the fundamental difference between vancouver and the Ducks right now. I made the statement that Anaheim would do vastly better than they had to start the year and was wrong; but look at the young core I just listed and then compare it to what we have.

Koltsov is one the reasons I'm not holding my breath on Tram. If he comes back great. If he doesn't that's fine too. Not every player wants to be an NHL'er. If he puts his wife and family ahead of the NHL, I respect that.
I'm just happy Tram admits he's more mature now. I think even he understands even in the KHL you have to earn your ice time.
