Well, to put it into perspective a little more:
We signed no-name Tanev as a UFA and developed him. He's done well, yes, but look at his games played. He deserves some form of a raise, but certainly not much. Short term, small raise. He can play a full season as #5 or 6 to show what he's worth before he starts asking too much.
And on the other hand, we don't know if Gillis is simply being an idiot and offering a crap contract.
Then, there's Mr. Third Party idiot agent, who is pulling out the stops from his buddies in Europe to stir up crap in the one media where he knows it will work: Vancouver.
The whole thing is a circus, when I, as a fan, am just waiting for the season to start. In the big picture, Tanev is trivial compared to how the team gels with Tortorella -- which is what will define our success next season.
