  1. Would you put an age, cap or term limit on that? PA said we won’t be trading a 1st for a 30year old player.
  2. I would’ve been cool with Hajek or Pysyk on D, who are both trying out with the Pens. I guess we could still sign any of them.
  3. I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d be happy to see him re-signed (for less). Even if he bounced back, I’d prefer we re-sign Bear, and acquire for Tanev for our playoff run…
  4. Hope you’re right, but also open to the possibility that he’s declining quickly due to age and/or the increased speed of the game. Its really on him to prove in a contract year, with a (likely) more suitable shutdown partner. I could believe any scenario for Myers this season, ranging from being a healthy scratch up to a bounce back into a 2nd pair shutdown role with Soucy/Cole. Or, he’s traded tomorrow and /thread
  5. I share your optimism. Each of our 6 UFA acquisitions improves our team defence and our coaching staff has proven better results, and is also attracting defensive talent
  6. All of these things can be true. Vancouver had poor systems and players/pairings on defence, AND Myers’ decline is beyond repair
  7. Waddell makes a point not to lose assets for free. If they can’t find a trade partner that can negotiate an extension, they might look at trading him for futures. Would he be worth acquiring as a rental?
  8. The OEL-Myers stylistic mismatch doesn’t get brought up enough. That's a great point there. Same with the team game, emphasizing defense from the forward group. We need cohesive defensive systems and a complimentary set of defensive personnel at both forward and defense. Believe we’ve addressed each of these (somewhat) in the off-season, but there’s more work to be done. IMHO, some of the priorities should be: 1. Find Hughes a quality, consistent partner for the next 2-3 years (Hronek? Pesce?) 2. Create a quality second pair that effectively plays a shutdown role (Soucy Hronek? Soucy Cole?) 3. Acquire or develop at least one high-end defensive forward (Räty?) 4. Acquire or develop 1-2 bigger defensive forwards /PK specialists (eg. Trenin) 5. Fill the 3rd pair D internally
  9. Just thinking about which prospects would make the biggest impact IF they could take a big step this year… Podz is our only power forward who’s close, and we need more size/toughness throughout the lineup.
  10. Is it just me, or is Horvat working on building back some equity with Canucks fans before he returns to play us?
  11. Here’s some coverage of that group from last offseason https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6TDpa3tXydg
  12. So he’s still doing off-season work with his USDP group after informal Canucks skates have started?
  13. If that is the plan, we need a short term solution for 2 seasons. Seems like vets (Schenn/Cole) and prospects (Juulsen) are the low cost solutions. Pesce could fit the timeline also, sliding to the 2nd pair as he declines around 32/33, and Willander is ready
  14. Suppose it depends which line takes key matchups. That line will likely have one or two of PDG/Mikheyev/Pearson on it.
  15. Such a late UFA signing. Wonder if we’ll see any trades before preseason starts
  16. I hear ya.would have fully supported JTM for that reason. That said, I’m on board for Captain Quinn, and interested to see how he leads. I want to see him firing up the team when they’re down, and changing the momentum of games. He’ll find his own style, and hopefully there’s some fire to it.
  17. Yes, pretty sure that was his first game. Agree, I never expected him to be our Captain, and voted for JTM when Bo was traded. I like this choice now…he’s stepped up as a leader, and has earned it.
