  1. We have to hang on to Sbisa because we have to expose one defenceman in the expansion draft.
  2. A big part of how the Canucks do this year is based on how they stack up against a much better Edmonton team and a better Calgary team that is now going to be better in goal. The Canucks look better this year but I can see them getting pushed around a lot. Gudbranson and Virtanen should help in that department but our lineup is going to be pushed around by Lucic, Brown, Kopitar, Getzlaf and Perry. I will wait and see how the young guys go this year....that will make or break our season plus we have to remain healthy.
  3. Sutter will be the 2nd line centre and Markstrom/ Miller will split the games down the middle if both of them stay healthy. Dorsett could be gone in the expansion draft.
  4. Vancouver missed out on a lot of points last year by losing all those 1 goal games. Maybe a sniper can help us collect those missing points. Vrbata was supposed to do that job last year but spent his year sulking about not playing with the Sedins. I like this signing.
  5. BDA

Out of the top 5, Tkachuk worried me (even though I was pretty high on him at one point). Are his numbers inflated from playing with Marner and Dvorek or was he an equal part of their success? When CBJ took Dubois, I figured Edmonton would take a D and that the hockey gods had let Puljijarvi fall to Vancouver. When that didn't happen because of Edmonton taking Puljijarvi, I was happy to see Vancouver take the safer route and choose a D....thought it would be Sergachev but Juolevi has a huge upside. We can't win without defense plus we will probably lose a D in the expansion draft....so good timing. We sure didn't have an easy road to this draft....losing the lottery, bad season, Benning getting whacked on the hands for trying to get a trade going our way plus not being able to get more picks....but it worked out and we drafted a very good D.
  6. That would be a huge overpayment for PK.
  7. Are you saying that Gudbranson is not worth a 2nd round pick?
  8. Good points other than the trade was with Florida, not Arizona.
  9. The trade is fair....a slight overpayment by including this years 2nd round pick ( although the 2nd round pick is a crapshoot). We needed a RHD more than a prospect centre who needs some time in the AHL and needs to get stronger. McCann will probably be a good NHL player eventually but seriously....we did not just trade Cam Neely.
  10. This is a good trade for Vancouver. McCann, by consensus, would benefit from spending time in the AHL as well as getting stronger. The jump to the NHL was too big a move for him at this time......basically, he is still a prospect. Gudbranson was a high 1st round pick who is a proven NHL player, is physical, RHD, has size and is still a young player. He will show Tryamkin how to use his big body to his advantage in the NHL (hopefully it will rub off on Edler too). Right shooting defensemen are a hard commodity to get via trade and there has been a huge R side hole to fill since the Bieksa trade. Yes we had to give up the 33rd overall but the jury is still out on that until we see who we could have taken with the pick. We needed to bolster the blueline now a lot more than we needed to wait for McCann to be ready in 2 years. McCann has not proven that he will be an effective NHL player yet. This trade was a good trade for both teams....Florida dumps cap and gets a young centre plus a couple of picks. Vancouver gets a proven defenseman who can make an impact immediately.
  11. Instead of saying TO got lucky, I prefer to think that TO guaranteed that the worst they could do was drafting 4th.
  12. I wonder what it would take to get a mid teens 1st rounder....maybe our two 2nd rounders?
  13. No system is perfect but every non playoff team would be trying to be that team that missed the playoffs by 1 point. Over time, every one of the non playoff teams should end getting a 1st overall pick because every team has equal odds at that happening. Even under the draft lottery system that is now in place, it is hard to believe that TO did not do everything they could to finish at the bottom of the league.
  14. Yes that would be an awesome line. I am hoping for Pierre-Luc Dubois though......6'3" and 202 lbs.
  15. If there was a defenseman available with that 1st round pick who was close to winning a roster spot....yes I would trade McCann + a 2nd or 3rd. I might even consider it if a huge dman like Logan Stanley was available....probably a work in progress but can you imagine both him and Tyamkin on the back end?
