  1. I'll leave the picking to the experts but I wouldn't move the 1st pick. I would use our 1st and 2nd to get some good draft picks (let the scouts do their magic) and then entertain trading JV and a pick for a high end prospect and a pick or a player that can step in next year. After the 1st and 2nd round, there are always teams that are trying to shop for picks to salvage the draft and teams that are up against the cap and have to move someone. I do hope that we get a bigger player in the Bo Horvat class...skating, size, heart and decent hands. We need defensemen but as someone pointed out....good RHD in the 2nd round....we need some scoring power and speed. You can have too many guys that can pass but with limited scorers at their disposal....passing won't put the numbers on the scoreboard. JMHO. ps Seth Jones contract would create cap problems and Benning would be giving players away just to stay under the cap.

    Bess

I don't know what day but Petey said he will drive to his home and get him if he isn't at camp!
  3. Good honest interview and it sounds like Green believes in him but needs consistency (like Virtanen). He is going to have to chase the puck and take it away to do that....he just can't be the player that waits for someone to pass him the puck. he could learn a lot from Brock Boeser or Petey….they go get the puck. If he can do that, he will be hard to keep off the ice.
  4. Jake could learn a lot from Antoine Rousel….he is a perfect role model for Jake.
  5. Jake needs to learn to play like Antoine Rousell and be that guy that is a pain in the ass for the opposition. Go to the net hard, screen the goalie and excel at tipping the puck....score a few dirty goals and stick up for your teammates. With Jakes speed, size and a decent shot, he can be that type of player. He just needs the same chance that Goldobin has been given before jumping the gun and trading him.
  6. Well I can't argue with your comments except to say that as a senior on a pension, I am not going to pay for a two way ferry ride, hotel and transportation plus a ticket to the Draft just to watch them pick a consolation prize. After all these years, the Canucks deserve to at least draft 1st overall once. In Betman's NHL it is all about what is best for business and that is why Vancouver can't get a fair shake plus why no Canadian team has won the Cup since Gary Betman took over. I hope JB can grab a few gems at this years draft but he should also consider serving notice by offer sheeting a few high end FA's. It might piss off a few GM's but that just might make them reconsider this lopsided draft system. I have always considered the draft one of the high points of the year but after all the disappointments watching other teams always get the gravy, I think the draft has finally turned me off.
  7. I had planned to go over to the draft this year but after getting stiffed with this Draft Lottery again, I think I will save my coin, stay home and read about it online after. In all these years, Vancouver has never had the 1st overall pick....the bad luck started in the 1st year when they lost the coin toss to Buffalo for the 1st overall pick. If they aren't going to tank like some other teams do when there is no chance of making the playoffs, they should start offer sheeting top end RFA's. It might piss off a few teams but at least Vancouver fans will have something to cheer for. Losing a few draft picks in the mid teens to get a bonafide elite player or two is worth it because the Draft Lottery keeps biting us. I sure hope I feel a lot different at the start of next season than I do right now. I have been a fan of the Canucks since the day they entered the league but I beginning to think I am a gluten for punishment.
  8. We can always go by the 'nose theory' and pick Vilardi.....big nose equals big goals.
  9. The Canucks should take Glass if he is there when they pick at 5. Does Tanev get traded at the draft for another 1st?
  10. Exactly, Burrows gave his heart to Vancouver. It is offensive to have a post titled ' Burrows, do we need him'.
  11. I posted because a topic asking if we need Burrows when he is no longer a Canuck is pointless....much like your reply.
  12. Would one of the moderators please take this topic down. Burrows does not play for Vancouver so there is no need for a post.
  13. Time to look ahead not backwards. The culture of the team is in transition by a capable team of Linden and Benning. The Canucks are getting bigger, badder and will still be a skilled team which is a necessary thing if we want to ever see a Cup in Vancouver. Embrace it or whine about the past....your choice...choose wisely.
  14. On TSN, 'Bob McKenzie says Vancouver will not be qualifying Jordan Schroeder or Zac Dalpe. Both go to UFA'.
  15. Hard to say, anyways he will fall in love with Vancouver once he sees what a hockey crazy town it is.
  16. McCann looked shocked to be selected by Vancouver. Glad to have him aboard. He was rated at #10 for N American players by Central Scouting and #19 on Craig Button's combined list.
  17. Well stated! It is shameful and embarrassing to slag Virtanen before he even suits up and that this thread is loaded with so much negativity. You would think that people would be happy to have a big skilled gritty player like Virtanen instead of a 166 lb player that will hopefully to grow a couple of years so that they have NHL size.
  18. He is too small...I would go with McInnis or Barbashev or McCann.
  19. I think you should go cheer for another team....geez the pick sucks, Linden sucks, Benning sucks, the whole team sucks? We just drafted a really great player who has size, plays physical, can fight, score and skate....and a huge plus, he is happy to be a Vancouver Canuck..Anyways, he is a Canuck now so get over it. Too bad we couldn't pull off the trade for Reinhart but I am still happy with the Virtanen pick....actually very happy with the pick.
  20. Welcome Jake....looking forward to seeing you play in a Canuck Uniform.
  21. Or to move up in the draft. Extra incentive if you trade up and part of the deal is taking on a contract from the other team.
  22. I would still draft one of Virtanen, Fluery (who I really like) or Perlini. They are all big, play good defense, can skate and score. Virtanen is expected to make a full recovery from surgery so that is not the issue. No more smallish players, especially ones who need to work on defense. We need players that are closer to earning a spot. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would take Nylander.
  23. Rumour....so does every other GM in the NHL, except for the team taking Ekblad.
  24. I disagree with that article. I don't see him at his best unless soeone is covering defensively for him....that gives him the latitude to join the rush.
