I like the Virtanen pick, but something in my gut tells me that if we drafted Ehlers instead Benning would have drafted Tkachuk to get that physicality. Imagine our top line... Tkachuk, Horvat, and Ehlers with Boeser and Baertschi on the second line...

Ehlers has cooled off the past 9-10 games it was reported somewhere..I think JV hit a speedbump somehow but I think he can catch up to Ehlers especially in the playoffs where physicality and speed are important.
Passing up a top 6 big forwardc like Tkachuk was a huge mistake and I think were going to have to wait at least 4 years for Julevi to push for a spot.

The other thing is that VIrtanen is 20. He's got a lot more hockey to play before he can even be put in the "bust" category. A year or two in Utica isn't the worst thing. Remember, it took Bertuzzi (the player Virtanen gets compared to often) until he was 25 to find his NHL footing. Patience will be key with Virtanen. Just because Ehlers and Nylander are producing now doesn't mean Virtanen won't be producing later. Personally, I'd rather have Virtanen, Horvat, Boeser, Juolevi, and the rest producing all together in two seasons rather than have one player sort of producing now on a teaming that's meandering around.
Also, it could be worse -- we could've selected Michael Dal Colle instead of Virtanen had Virtanen been plucked by the Islanders with the pick before. (Though, I doubt that, I suspect had Virtanen gone #5 that the Canucks would've likely selected one of Ehlers or Nylander over Dal Colle).
