The wrong type of firepower IMO. The Rangers, despite their talented forward group on paper, aren't especially effective at controlling 5 on 5 play. Their solution to that problem was to acquire two big name but aging and past their prime perimeter wingers to complement a roster already full of perimeter wingers. Maybe it's coaching more than anything, but the Rangers basically bought new spoilers for a car with an underpowered engine. Looks nice, but doesn't do much to actually make your car faster.

Am I crazy for enjoying this a little bit? It's great when people get along and everyone's happy, but there's nothing like a good old-fashioned beef, especially when it's pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things. I honestly wasn't expecting Horvat to be the one to get the party started. I guess there's still time for him to walk back what he said, but I also wouldn't mind if he doubled down. It would make his first game back even more entertaining.

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

Guess Othani had made his mind up to take the first pitch, which is understandable with the bases loaded. Once he fell behind 0-1, he started chasing a bit. I'll take it, though. -

Mayza retires Ohtani to record a one-out, 12-11 save, just like everyone predicted. -
Some team stats since Demko returned on February 27, just for the sake of curiosity: Shots allowed/60: 28.2 (9th best) Scoring chances against/60: 27.92 (10th best) High-danger chances against/60: 11 (6th best) Expected goals against/60: 2.79 (7th best) Save percentage: 92.25 (4th best) So while they've definitely benefitted from better goaltending, they've also been a top 10 team in the league in terms of shots, scoring chances, and expected goals allowed over the last month (at least according to Natural Stat Trick). Strength of schedule aside, they're playing better defense and that's definitely a positive sign. The question now is whether they can carry this form over to next season.

I read that they have a campus in Vancouver and thought it was a joke, but it's real: https://www.fdu.edu/campuses/vancouver-campus/

Drance has an account on this forum. While you posting pictures doesn't directly contribute to The Athletic's ad revenue, it creates engagement. Not every person who reads this board will subscribe or even visit their site, but he will 100% notice people talking about his articles. The same happens on Twitter and other social media platforms. As long as people talk about what he writes and says, he will be encouraged to keep doing it since inevitably some of those people will subscribe to The Athletic or visit their site. He also isn't the only one who does this, even members of the national media like Friedman will purposely tailor content towards this fanbase because he knows we'll eat it up every time. Obviously not saying you're the problem. It's just a product of the business itself. You have the right to believe it's excessively negative, and I honestly agree it's too much sometimes, but they're simply catering to the market. We thrive on drama.

The point of media is to grab attention. Ironically, you making this post is evidence that it works. If you don't like it, the only real way to stop it is to not engage with it.

Since the Canucks do the opposite of what their fans want, it's obvious we need to start cheering for them to win again. -

What losing to the Canucks does to a mf. -
The timing of everything is probably the real reason the Canucks didn't give Horvat that huge extension. His value to a Cup contender at $8.5 million would be justifiable, but not for a team that's staring a rebuild in the face (or at least should be). They'd be wasting Horvat's prime years and he likely won't be fully worth his contract 4+ years from now when they're ready to contend again (big if, obviously). Same logic applies to Miller's contract, which I wish the team hadn't given him. I have no ill will towards Bo. He did what was best for himself and helped the team get some valuaable assets in return.

[PGT] Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks | Jan. 21, 2023

The cap flexibility alone would be worth it - no bad contracts, plently of room to take on other teams' bad contracts for assets, basically a perfect situation to start a rebuild. Contrast that to the Canucks who will likely have to give assets away to dump their boat anchors. What a mess.
