  1. Anyone here coach?

Don't coach kids if you're just in it for the volunteer hours. If you don't love working with kids, don't coach at all. I coached my first team, a U11 girls field hockey team, when I was 13. I coached the Senior Girls Field Hockey team, at Point Grey in Vancouver, to the City Championship and 7th in BC when I was a senior myself. I stopped coaching 2 years ago as a high school soccer coach in Dawson Creek, BC, at the school I teach at. I loved every minute of it. If you don't sincerely love working with kids, don't shortchange them by coaching, dude. As for the bad language thing, speak to the other coach about it. There is a Code Of Conduct all coaches must follow when working with kids. Teaching them how to carry themselves and represent their team and club is part of that code. If the bad language continues, report the coach to your club.
  2. [PETITION] - Change Vancouver Canucks Jerseys

The uniform is going to change, anyways, for the 17-18 season when Adidas takes over NHL designs. Let's just hope they're not plastered in freakin' advertising!

Di Maria is a great player, but, I can't see him helping all that much in a 3-5-2. Where is he going to play? I could see him playing behind the strikers in a 4-1-2-1-2 or in the middle in a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-3. United need help at the back. The way they're playing the 3-5-2 is really like a flat back 5. Where does Di Maria fit?
  4. Should we sign Big Bert?

Todd Bertuzzi is a disgrace and a criminal. The night he assaulted Steve Moore, I lost all respect for him. He had always been a hothead before the incident, proven by his NYI and junior days. He was my favorite Canuck up until that sucker punch, now, meh. He has done nothing since leaving Vancity and will continue to do nothing, hopefully elsewhere. The Canucks don't need to return to that dark time by signing an over-the-hill, washed up has-been. Would rather have Messier back... And I strongly dislike Messier.
  5. Are we truly a "knowledgeable" fanbase?

Uhhhh... Keenan / Messier Era says, "Hello". Some bad teams then, for sure.

Sad thing is, this is a big part of why the NASL died... Washed up, aging imports. The other league killer was expansion into unproven or weak markets. I hope MLS has read the history books.
  7. What was most difficult about last season?

Tortorella. I called no playoffs as soon as he was hired. Always the wrong guy for the team and the city... Wrong personality... Wrong system. I watched less Canuck's hockey last season than any other season in history because I loathed Tortorella. He reminded me of Keenan. My sports focus moved more towards the Leos, the 'Caps and Liverpool. When Linden was hired, I slapped my forehead in disbelief. I thought he was the wrong guy for the job. That all changed when Benning was hired. And then Desjardins. Then the Draft and Free Agency. All of a sudden, my interest has been sparked again. Then Doug Lidster the other day. I haven't been this excited about the team since Game 7 of the Final in '11! So, let's forget about last season and look forward to '14-'15 with eagerness. I can't wait for camp!
  8. Does the officiating improve for us next season?

All I wish is that officials would call all games - preseason, regular season and playoffs - the way the Rule Book says they should be called. An infraction is an infraction, at any time. The rule book is there for a reason. It would be great if it were used more consistently. Those officials who choose not to call games "by the book" are warned, then fined, then they start losing assignments. Players can be "sent down". Maybe it's time for consistently poor officials to be demoted, too?

Looked as if there was only 1 team on the pitch against West Brom. They were terrible. Reds looked great. You're gonna do well when you get 4 goals from your strikers. Back 3 looks a little sketchy, at times, but, infinitely better than last year's group. It'll be even better when Enrique gets back. Mignolet has been awesome, too. Still 3/4 of the year to go... Hope this carries on for a CL spot for next season.

Just curious, topbananas, which strike partnership do you see as firing better than Suarez-Sturridge, right now, as of October 7th?
  11. The Official European Football (Soccer) Thread

Cheers, Bizarre. I'm not a fan of Suarez' antics, but, as a footballer, there are few better in the world right now. After the Palace match, where both Suarez and Sturridge scored, it's hard to deny that they are the best strike partnership in the EPL right now.

Camillo for Goal Of The Year... In any league!

Scousers 3 - Sunderland 1. 13 points from 6 games and 2nd place is a nice start. 9 out of the next 12 points would be nice. Arsenal will be a tough one. Suarez / Sturridge duo could be the best in the EPL. Go, Reds!

Right here, my Scottish Brother! I am alive and kicking. Good to see Hoops do what they should against a Minnow. Home leg should be better still.

Suarez' talents say he should play in the best league in the world, the EPL. His personality tells me he could end up playing back in Uruguay. He must have played his last game as a Red. The club's fans, Rodgers, team officials cannot back him publicly in this one, can they? If they do, I'll go back to supporting Gillingham with all my might. The video evidence is damning and because of it, the FA have to come down hard on this repeat offender. Every time I see the footage, I think of a real-life zombie. Look at the expression on his face... The anger in his eyes... The razor-sharp buck teeth... It's "The Walking Freakin' Dead" in real time. All joking aside, this example of the living dead must be banished. What's next? Spitting in Sir Alex' Eye? Beating up an old lady and stealing her purse at Merseyside?
