Going into the offseason, I knew that I would have to make some extremely tough decisions due to the salary cap being where it is and having the fortune of Jonathan Toews deciding to resign with our club long term. We unfortunately had to unload the contracts of two very serviceable players in David Desharnais and Chris Tanev. As well, due to the cap hits, we had to include two prospects in Riley Barber and Taylor Leier. There's no doubt in my mind that Nashville has become a better and deeper team after this trade. However, a large part of the business is sacrifice and we hope that all these players going to Nashville will be making a positive impact as soon as next season. There was a comfort level in dealing these players because the emergence of our younger group of players. We as an organization believe that Brett Pesce has the potential to fill in nicely in our second pairing and Robby Fabbri is ready for a top six role next year after his amazing playoff performance. We still have plenty of other young players pushing for spots as well and we are eager to see them in camp. My thanks to GM Sergei on a long, but smooth negotiating process.
