  1. I don't think either will be fired regardless of the result this year. Benning won't be fired 1 year into an extension and I don't think Green is expected to make the playoffs or get out of town. 2020-2021 with the pick on the line is when people get fired.
  2. Pretty sure Couts problem was an ice-time problem before they moved Giroux to wing full time. He exploded as soon as he was given a top 6 C position. So I doubt Horvat will have a similar improvement since he's always been a top 6 C. He may get a bit better with better linemates though.
  3. Master of the "perfect slow rebuild" everyone screamed about copying, demanding we suck for another 5 years. Well that slow rebuild hasn't accomplished anything and now their window is already closing. Whoops.
  4. Korpisalo has enough minutes in him that fairly reliably state he isn't a good goalie. It's really up to Elvis or Columbus is in real trouble.
  5. Unless we're signing and sending Boeser back I have no idea how that works cap-wise.
  6. Iconic picture, but a goal in a sweep when the SCF was deliberately set up to be a joke. It was a pretty meaningless goal, but the image lives on. So yeah, the goal was basically meaningless and the play was pretty simple, but it's not really "overrated" because it is one of the more important pictures in hockey history and that's all that matters in the long run.
  7. I don't think either Hughes will be put in a perfect position to win the Calder. I think it's that simple. Makar is going to step into one of the best power-plays in the league. Kakko is going to step into a 1st line winger role and top power-play unit. Same with Comtois. Those are my favourites. IF Quinn takes over our powerplay immediately and the powerplay is one of the best in the league and, IF Jack somehow pushes out Hirschier to play with Hall and Palmieri them MAYBE they're in the conversation..but I'm not putting money on it.
  8. We do not need a guy that can barely skate. We don't need to kick the tires on every guy with a name we recognize.
  9. Must be nice to win the lottery in one of your first chances, have a stud defenseman demand a trade specifically to your market, and the premiere UFA solely focused on signing with you. People act like Rangers management are geniuses, it just makes me gag. Haves and have nots indeed.
  10. I think the Central is overrated. Winnipeg is worse. Nashville is treading water (I'm not sure Duchene moves the needle at all) Dallas is slightly better but is always unpredictable. If Benn doesn't rebound and Bishop reverts or gets hurt as usual they are in trouble. Colorado is going to be great..in a couple years. There are way too many question marks on that team for them to be rated as high as people have them. It's ridiculous. Chicago is better assuming Debrincat and Strome don't regress. Still a bubble team. Minny is better than people are meme-ing, but still a bubble team. St Louis is a complete wildcard. They'll be somewhere in between last season's two halves. There's not a single sure thing in that division. I think Nashville/Dallas/Winnipeg get in, but the Pacific definitely have a chance to get both Wildcard spots.
  11. I don't know man. There's been some rough years. I think having the Sedins automatically disqualifies those teams as the worst Canucks teams.
  12. Not to mention Binnington was entirely average during the Cup run. A couple decent games but very "meh" stats overall. He could very well be the next Ward or Niemi. The Blues were juggernaut-ing that playoffs with Binnington or not.
  13. To be fair, I think any team in the league could rebuild as fast as the Rangers when you win the lottery and literally have players forcing their team to give them to you and other players picking you in free agency purely because of the exposure. The Rangers management didn't do F*** all except sit there with their hands out. How would we judge the Rangers today without Trouba, Panarin or Kakko?
  14. This happens all the time. Someone wins a Cup with someone else's team. I feel this will be Benning's fate. A couple of so-so years, he gets fired. New GM wins the Cup with the core Benning constructed and gets all the credit.
  15. I would absolutely give up winning the lottery to see the Leafs miss the playoffs and win the lottery with the pick they gave away to free up cap space. Who needs Lafreniere when I can have Schadenfreude?
  16. Eriksson's bonus is up next week, after which he'll be much easier to move. There's a chance they're waiting to see how that plays out?
  17. Brock likes 3 on 3 so much he will sign a 3.3 million dollar contract to help us compete.
  18. I know everyone is on the Colorado hype train, but I don't think they're a lock next year. They barely made it on the back of two unreliable win streaks that were separated by terrible hockey. They had no major injuries, but lost any game their top line didn't dominate and Grubauer simply played lights out the last 8 games to get them in. A great series against Calgary, but irrelevant to regular season hockey. They still lack depth and Grubauer is still an unreliable #1. They're betting on a rookie to command their D-core after only playing 10 games. If any of their top line get injured, those win streaks don't materialize, and Grubauer doesn't get better over 82 games, they could easily miss the playoffs.
  19. Let's just be clear that Goldy does not, in any existing or fictional reality, "got talent like Kovalev".
  20. I just don't see why we ship out Tanev when the defense finally looks competent for the first time in years. I think he's worth more to us than whatever middling asset we would get for him. Losing Tanev moves guys up the depth chart that shouldn't be there.
  21. Fantenburg is much better than Schenn. He played 3rd pairing on Calgary in the playoffs last year. Schenn wouldn't be close to cracking that lineup.
  22. Green has already said he's going with Petey and Brock. JT is exactly what that line needs. I like this trade. We likely keep our pick for the sweet draft next year and iff we aren't a playoff team in 2021 everyone is getting fired anyway..
  23. With Colorado drafting Byram I still think that makes Barrie expendable. Colorado isn't shortsighted enough to think they're a true contender yet, despite winning a round. They have time to let that insane D-core develop
  24. Let's not be too quick to send assets off for Poolparty. The kid is 90% likely to be a bust. CBJ passed on him because they thought he was the dumbest kid in the draft and the last few years haven't exactly proven that wrong. So "potential" is great and all, but for all those people saying Hutton or whoever, remember you're likely sending Edmonton something for absolutely nothing.
