    Hockey. Canucks. Winning the Cup.
  1. Can't even believe this..not even into his mid 50's yet either. I listened to a lot of Soundgarden growing up and always thought they were top of the heap during all the grunge era groups (although referring to them as just grunge would be a disservice to the band). Thoughts go out to friends and family of Mr. Cornell and hoping the reports that he took his own life are false.
  2. This is someone that obviously doesn't understand the traditional interplay between these two cities and their hockey teams. You may appeal short-term to some Oilers fans in the city but i'm going to assume that their bread and butter is Canucks fans and this is going to rub quite a few of them the wrong way (which is already evident apparently). Honestly, they can do whatever they want and if this gets them some dollars during this dry spell then that is their prerogative...but it may hurt them in the long run.
  3. The word generational sure gets thrown around a lot lately, I guess we have the modern media to blame for this. Now don't get me wrong, there are some great, fantastic talents in the league these days but I remember when these terms belonged to guys like Lemieux and Gretzky. I do believe Jagr, with how many games and points he has is an outlier for the category (would be a lock if he didn't leave the league for years), and Crosby is probably destined to be there when his career wraps up but I mean.... c'mon. McDavid is phenomenally gifted and very well may stand in this category but lets give it a few more years before anointing him beside Gretzky when his main achievement so far is winning an Art Ross and getting the Oilers into the 2nd round. I guess if we break this term down into "team" generational and "NHL" generational it makes more sense but this just seems to be tacking on the latest buzz word (remember 'Foundational' last year?) to describe some great players.
  4. The piling on/crowd mentality in this thread is pretty funny. Anyhow, I think there are more than a few of us that knew that management has had to step around and wait out some nasty contracts (the most egregious of which had NTC's attached to them). This was going to be a problem that was corrected over a number of seasons, not just one or two. We still have a couple to go and after that the sweeping changes that need to be made will most likely be enacted. The rebuild or retool or whatever has been happening incrementally up to this point but is slowly picking up steam as the latest trade deadline indicated.
  5. I am in no way a Sutter fan, never liked him, never liked his style. However, lets be honest with ourselves and our team for just a moment. The product on the ice has already been atrocious for the last two seasons leading to losing seasons. So you are telling me that if the product on the ice is atrocious...but the Canucks are winning, that is the last straw? Color me confused...unless this is a keep the tank going thread; which in that case I guess I sort of understand?
  6. Not sure how I feel about the whole coaching situation but it is looking more and more likely with bench bosses being snatched up pretty fast that the Canucks will go with Greene as another rookie bench boss. It could be a good thing, but I have to admit that the thoughts of another coach learning the NHL ropes makes me nervous.
  7. I was one of the 15 people that watched the Juno's (with my wife). I thought the joke was a little odd on the CBC for about 3 seconds and after that I didn't think about it again until this thread. When I asked my wife if she remembered the joke she didn't. Honestly, there are a lot more important issues to get worked up about than a poorly timed joke on a 2nd string award show that so few of us actually watched.
  8. I don't think it is baffling at all. Jeremy Jacobs is the true power in the NHL and he pulls Gary's strings. History shows us this has benefited the Bruins (Marchand in particular) in a number of ways.
  9. I think most of us knew making the playoffs over the next few years was going to be a pipe-dream. If we do fantastic...but i'm not holding my breath.
  10. Honestly i'm not even sure where TSN is getting cash from these days. I know they have the rights to....Senators games, I think? I also think they do the Juniors and the CFL. Not sure what else after that. I must be missing something though if they are still all over the place and can afford semi-famous personalities.
  11. The hockey traditionalist in me tells me its the wrong jersey for him to wear. The logical side of me tells me he should be allowed to wear it. Either way, if he is willing to pay the iron price to don the jersey of the 2nd greatest player to ever lace them up (opinion) then go for it kid, just don't expect a free pass from Pittsburgh or any team that has players that are going to jaw at him for his pretense.
  12. Not sure where we are going with this. Is this a "In Benning we Trust" thread? If so, its a bit of a winding road to get there but yeah i'm also interested to see what the young guys will do in the next couple seasons.
  13. Incoming alt account in approximately 1-2 months. If not, have fun at HF or wherever you end up.
  14. About time. I remember one of my favorite Pat Quinn moments was when he set Don Cherry straight when he was running his mouth about Bure.
