  1. Getting tougher to play against not only D wise which we need more of too but I was shocked to read that as that's been my complaint since 2012 as we needed to put a tough player with the Twins as a Rat deterrent so to speak, but it was painful to watch us get run over time and time again with our stars getting run. So it sure put a smile on my face hearing he said and I'm still in shock although I'll believe it when I see it. I'll add JR knows that it takes balancing a roster better than anyone else that wins a cup. I'm nervous to get excited that we might get tougher and have depth for a change but fingers crossed! Make it happen JR, we're tired of seeing a soft skilled team getting destroyed in the post season and hopefully it stops!
  2. Luck I think, he had horrible luck here, his injuries would surprise the average Dr I'm sure. Sadly as I know myself from sports injuries is they start to catch up with you eventually and it's a matter of time until it affects you. Was that a gamble the Canucks as a franchise could take? No! Not even close, what depth did we EVER have losing a D of his calibre? Next to none, especially after losing Salo, which led to lost games when we came up against the OV's and McD's etc. Same with Edler, aging and same history of injuries. Giving either of them term was a bad idea! Why gamble when your just getting back in the game, building wise?!
  3. Some argue the length and term of contracts but then there's covid, no 10 mil of lost cap which would have moved us ahead for a change and not counting RL's recapture either, so it would probably even out anyway, we'd have kept Toffi and a RHD signed and we would have been playoff bound but the defining truth is even the way it sits at this moment, after a horrible long start we still managed to be 16 spots better than the last place team so saying we're in a horrible spot because of JB is something clueless to say. And you'd be arguing with JR who just stated we are close now to having a contending team for a cup and who is wrong? Those saying we suck or a Stanley cup winning head of the Pens?! Since the truth is that we didn't show up at 32nd clearly proved Jimbo did ok, not great, not horrible as some would love to say but clearly, not so much. Too much listening to the Media I'd say... Their just as bad if not worse.
  4. As a matter of fact, if JR toughens us up, and balances the line-up and trades for some depth, not a lot. Then that's possible unless your too stupid to see it that is...
  5. *crosses fingers* and says he's not going anywhere! 5 x 8.5!!!
  6. That was PART of it for sure.. Covid played a larger part by far. Not even in the same ice rink.. sadly but it's still affecting us to this day and will for years to come BUT it set us back worse than anything I ever imagined would happen. Green never helped one bit, in fact trying to run complicated systems for a team on the change with new players and younger ones all trying to get better, all he had to do was pull a BB and keep it simple to pull it off and into the playoffs although not on a deep run probably but enough to have a better idea on how to move forward next season and beyond.
  7. Just draft Dmen with size, speed, and a puck mover, doesn't have to be flashy, just Tanev solid.. a Luke schenn with a bit more speed and skill is just what the Dr. is ordering! Just draft D! We've never had a whole lot of depth on D ever so now is a good time to start, make it happen JR! Can't ever go wrong on ELC's to help cap space, currently speaking of that, thank you Podz btw! Perfect timing!! Hope Klim works his a$$ off in the off-season and into call-ups next season!
  8. Hmmmm.. well maybe it's getting out of old habits of Green and I'm hopeful of that because only a certain amount of games where we fell apart from the said 'failed first pass out of our zone" Simple fix for that really, practice the quick simple pass, not hesitate, and then a turn over and I saw that and I'm sure others of us did happen so much that you almost expected it to happen BUT like I said it may be just habit and will improve like the power play that was pretty lethal in stretches but has to be wayyyy more consistent. Greener and most of Vancouver expected the team to transition in the newer players, somehow make up for the loss of Hamonic which made matters worse. So with all things considered and Bruce sticks around and simplifies the back end not to worry waiting for a lead pass to present itself, an easy quick short passes are key so we don't have so many goals against. So if we get that down it should help us a lot! Do it Bruce!! There it is! Lol Ok so it helped us win a lot more games working towards that so hope he keeps it up and I don't see why not. The rest of it all, well it all falls on management to give Bruce enough ammo to win to keep him wanting to stay.
  9. You can do the huggy thing all day long but again, rosters were acquired here with selling the farm. Nothing new.. and look where that got us.. do we have a cup i'm missing besides the Millionaire's? As i've been on about for a long time now that the best team balanced with skill speed and toughness with good depth wins cup or opportunities to win, and I know you know that, so until we have some toughness in balance WITH depth, no way we win a cup. So I'm not saying go back to the knuckle dragger 80's but just enough to balance it out. No more, no less. The new NHL only applies to the reg season but it leans in the 80's style too, not like it used to but it still plays a part today and that's still our Achilles heel because when it gets tough and injuries happen like they do, is obviously when the depth roll means so much. But we don't have that now and never really had, small bits here and there but nowhere near a significant amount to make any difference. I wish it wasn't that case but it is.. meh, what can you do?!
  10. A soft tweener team is what Vancouver wants actually as weird as that sounds, we love our entertaining soft highly skilled teams year in and year out and if we had a tougher roster we sold the farm to get it. Nothing new under the sun since 1974, trust me other that. So no matter who owns this team, GM's or coaches will never get a cup but remain a tweener team or a bit better.. NOT elite... But whatever, not much one can do about it but hope in a miracle someone other than JB, and a cpl of other GM's in the past tried to toughen us up but will JR and AL remember we need more schenn in the line-up, not tons but some. 2012 with depth this time would be a shock! But I'll believe it when I see it...
  11. Decent points for sure and I'm still pissed at Green for not doing what BB did that made my blood boil especially with all the new additions and Podz first season and it was so easy I was sick to my stomach because I knew it was going to happen, trying to run complicated system s under those circumstances was ludicrous, and it cost the playoffs by not keeping it simple and simply coach to strengths and weakness's instead of making systems so on the complicated that some players were so worried they would hesitate and not make the simple quick first pass that led to turnovers and goals galore that would have been worse had it not been for insanely good goal tending but any coach who is good at getting players to keep it fast and simple would do well here, 2012 was a perfect example of that, a tougher team with a fast forecheck almost got us there but we had next to no depth so after the ship sailed, we were broken and it'll eventually happen all over again if we don't toughen up, push hard for 60 mins and make other teams make most of the D mistakes for a change, when the playoffs hit we won't get turfed out early if we have dept because as we know what teams will do to win in the post season. Soft skill is great to watch in the reg season, but in the end......
  12. I sort of agree but the first round losers, unless they don't have the means to upgrade and there's no other option than to deep 6 their coach, not sure it would happen but I think BB takes our situation as a challenge and probably wondering about what he will have to work with next season as I'm sure he was promised upgrades of our own by JR & AL, although i wished he have said we need to toughen up too or upgrades will keep keep us at first round exits too and no coach can solve that problem, only management. If toughness comes mixed with the "speed and skill" he mentioned, then we're be ok, if not we're F'd as usual.. back to the fun reg season soft team b.s.
  13. What other terrible contracts do we have? OEL? Certainly not, we desperately need a top pairing D also Myers is a big boy we will need if we ever hope to get anywhere if we make the playoffs unless we sign some other size OR stay the same old course of a soft highly skilled regular season team that get beat on and ousted by bigger skilled teams that know all they have to do is get rough and we sink... For the 42nd year straight, kind of getting a tad old but the story remains the same. We need a team balanced with scoring, toughness and team D, we lack in the latter that has to be dealt with, the best team at it always wins the cup and if we had depth and not a non existent farm the times we had teams close, we'd have a cup by now and wanting more.
  14. Sadly you mentioned contend and that won't be much of one, Allvin in his interview said we need more skill and speed but never mentioned toughness to balance it out. That's been lacking for a long time and we all know how tough the playoffs are. I was crossing my fingers we'd not be be another fast butter soft team but looks like a "here we go again" scenario.. Oh well, at least watching the games before a first round exit will be better than nothing but kinda sad about it. Sigh.. smh... Why can't we have a few more schenn types in the line-up? Who come with just enough speed and skill + take care of business WHEN, not if, it happens. I sense the Sedins just woke from the dead in Alien, Hughes and Flow especially who will undoubtedly become popular targets. Maybe one day it'll change, probably not but maybe. Until then, still no cup hopes no matter what if this keeps up.
  15. Well stupid comments tend to catch your attention and easy to remember, skating is one of the easier things to put work into, Bo was faulted by people because of it but he was new and admitted it BUT the difference is that Bo's personality of get better in any area needed and so he did, his skating improved a ton and it got him in better position for goals, puck stealing, his whole game got upped a notch and that's when the higher praises started to come from the media and taken off the 3rd line list and only Bob McKenzie saw what a lot of us here saw in him that the rest of the van media couldn't.. so sure, believe everything they say. Cough cough JT Miller cough cough
  16. Actually I think Trotz has a better idea on D than BB but that's where it ends, both are really good and have their strengths and weakness's like all GM's, they just happen to be better at most aspects. I'd like to see Trotz here as well if not BB, we need a lot more emphasis on our 200 ft game. We can score, have a great goalie, but we need the D to balance it out. And it needs to come from everyone, team D has been lacking for quite awhile. It's getting better but still needs works
  17. Bo got praise from the media for his supposed 3rd line forever skills and the higher praises he had we're from the CDC and there's no one I know of in here that writes for anyone. So lots of us for it right, how come the media couldn't?! Omg lmfao! I guess I know where you get your info from.. you can defend bush league all you want, it's still bush league or worse!
  18. Well I saw a bit on Klim and he has that, ummm his stride cuts are fast and deep into the ice and you can actually hear it like you can from a guy like OV and he gets going in a heartbeat and add to that how fast he dangle and then laser beam... I was quite impressed, and that was him still raw, let alone honed. Almost is a cross between Bure and OV, I don't get to into untested Europeans on small ice until they have been playing on it over here where time and space isn't a luxury like over in the huge rinks. Hopefully he'll figure it out. Oh and it doesn't hurt to have another guy who might help us, Linus Karlsson mr late bloomer it seems, was tearing up the SHL like Petey did, maybe a steal there!
  19. Anyway, 2 things could really help us along IF they work out and you can quote me on this, if Podz keeps it on the upward trend as he gets more and more confidence and experience, and another in Klimovich, man I hope he makes it, he had to work on his D game which set back his numbers and got scratched here and there but started on a break out. Honestly he looks like a middle of the road OV, not a poor man's OV wannabe either, that kids got size, skill, speed, and attitude with a flash of a mean streak here and there. I believe this is our real JV.. (finally)
  20. Oh and the JV thing?! He does have all the tools but no other GM has a crystal ball either and every GM in history can't tell if any other players who don't come in and rock the show, as in gretz mcdavid Ovie type, you can never know how they will turn out, and JV was rankes in the top 10 by pretty much everyone who put out a piece on the draft. So drafting is a crap shoot at best.. so you can't tell me every other GM today or ever has been, will be, loses on drafts that don't work out.. c'mon..
  21. So you pointed out the only thing we have in favour over some of the next tier destinations because that's it's arguably in the top 5 most beautiful cities in the world BUT at the end of the day, money is it, that's why it isn't a theory, as much as I wish it wasn't, believe me, I used to pay tax on a business and not anywhere near a player's salary but I got hosed in taxes and it gets worse the more you make so you know where this is going, to sign players, you have to balance out the scale as best you can but it always equals over paying and it always has, this is why we're small market compared to the big USA teams. Stevie Y, Gretz, and tons of other Canadians actually did Capt for the big teams too! Why? Better money..
  22. The media is bush league in Vancouver and it's been that way for a long time. It's certainly not new, didn't you know Bo is a career 3rd line center?? That's exactly what he turned out to be right? That came out of lain Mac's mouth and was agreed upon by other media and a whole lot of fans, he's too slow, blah blah blah.. yeah they just keep getting it right don't they? And by the way, I'm hardly the only one bitching about the bush league boys and have talked about it often so you go ahead and listen to them if you like but don't be surprised when your eating crow..
  23. Yeah every player is rushing to get in the bargain basement to play in Canada and get bent over by our government, hmmm and I wonder why any great player who signs here HAS to be overpaid, this is throughout the last 40 years IF you think that Canada is the destination of choice in the NHL you'd be not only wrong, laughably wrong. In fact let's go over the amount of elite Canadian players all captains of big USA market teams on top of it all.. it's not going to change anytime soon unless out government gives tax breaks and that is not going to happen. And then there's the fans here in Vancouver, riots, and even new players are warned.. Yeah we're so high on the destination list right? The opposite being true equals young players trying to break in to the NHL and a more balanced cap, but it HAS to go that way now, agents know they can demand more $ and get more $ and as much as that sucks, it's a major contributor when it comes to cap and having to try and balance it when everyone wants a roster with no depth like it's been all the way up last year since DAY ONE until we had some decent players signed and performing and Demko had a huge part in it, along with Bo and co. with Hogs and Podz helping out on ELC's, so now with 3 mil cap back from Lou, and a trade or two for D upgrade leaves with a lot less goals against, taking pressure of Demko and soon to be Martin, and we're in the playoffs, this past season was horrible losing a 2nd pairing Dman for a long stretch of it on top of it all, which didn't help any but the bright side was forwards adjusting to playing a 200 foot game. So we all knew this.. all JB did with Poolman and hunt was fill gaps until he knew what Petey, and Hughes would sign for, get rid of LE, bring in a top pairing D in OEL and score a steal in Garland to play up and down the line-up.. all this right up to now, where we're as close to actually have a good roster and depth for competition (for a change) This is how we got to "close" as in the next 2 years and hopefully onward we not only have a roster but not lose games when we get an injury or 2, like when Tanev or Eddie went down, which was often with no slack available to hold back the likes of mcdavid, OV, Matthews etc... Now we have OEL and Hughes for that and hopefully another top RHD who can sub in on top pairing when needed and then playoffs? Hopefully every year IF we don't sell the farm (for a change)! Yeah I had reason to be pissed at JB at times BUT that didn't cloud my vision so I couldn't see the good things that worked out and moves us forward and as much as you don't like it, we're a lot further ahead as JR pointed out than you think.
