  1. The problem seems to be that there is a lack of meaningful employment. Sure the unemployment rate is low, but that alone doesn't necessarily mean that people are well off. In this case it just means that there is a huge surplus of jobs that do not pay well at all, which is why so so many people have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Its just a way for Trump to cynically claim that unemployment is not proliferate as if that tells the entire story. His supporters dont seem to care about any of this. As long as he shouts "fake news" they will heed his every word. Millions of people trust Donald Trump. They believe Donald Trump. It's the dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life.
  2. In addition, and also In the process of breaking these promises, he has alienated some of his closest allies with his boorish behavior, thereby turning America's moderate decline as a world power into a potential nose dive. D'oh! Criticizing Trump is an international sport! Trump is the main reason, for example, that Russia and China have formed a partnership and are working together more closely then ever!
  3. Sure, but I don't think he understands how that works. The US breaking deals and pulling out of things like the Paris agreement, pulling out of the Iran agreement. Trump is sending the message of "Don't trust the US to stick to it's agreements" and "Don't do any deals with the US" He has crippled America's standing. Seems everyone is waiting for the Trump era to end as soon as possible because you can't deal with an uneducated narcissist. Here are some numbers. The second table that shows how much confidence the rest of the world has that the US will do the right thing is shocking. https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2018/10/01/appendix-a-detailed-tables-u-s-image/
  4. ! apologize, this is far more serious then previous outbreaks and I appreciate your setting me straight.
  5. I'm pretty sure this is something we would want to avoid if possible. In addition you're going have to deal with rising sea levels that would be a major problem for something like 2 or 3 billion people on the coastlines. I doubt this would be a gentle transition when you consider the rate at which global temperatures are rising. Sure, but life largely relies on ecosystems on the land and in the sea to remain at equilibrium and it doesn't take much of a sudden change in temperature or climate to offset things. The most devastating extinctions have correlated with a rapid increase in temperature. Our planet is experiencing a mass extinction right now, and it seems to be at least partially the result of a global rise in temperature since the industrial revolution began.
  6. That was weird with Tulo. I expected him to get tossed immediately for arguing balls and strikes, at least that's what I'm used to seeing. It looked like he somehow got off the hook. But then later on his Umpire buddy was like "You hurt his feelings, you know that? You're not allowed to play anymore!"
  7. Woke up Sunday morning here in Nanaimo and it was orange. It was like being on another planet; does this look familiar?: Its still poisonous outside now, but at least its been slightly cooler and not pushing the mid 30s. The Sun tries to burn through the smoke so it doesn't have the feel of a genuine overcast, and it paints everything in a sickly orange glow. This must be what living in Mexico City is like.
  8. I am Legend 7/10 I got more then I expected, Will Smith was very good; If you are trying to relate a feeling of loneliness and despair to the audience, this is textbook in how to do it as far as I'm concerned. However, it would have helped if they were a lot more true to the book it is based on. In the movie, the title doesn't even make sense.
  9. Moon (Sam Rockwell, 2009) 9/10 Great actor and movie, but also surprisingly heartbreaking
  10. I don't know exactly what or even if there is a psychological factor that comes into play. But I can tell you the act of guaranteeing victory in pro sports usually backfires in a nasty way. It seems to me for every one Mark Messier guaranteeing victory over the Devils in 94 and delivering on that promise, there are about 10 equivalent cases such as Patrick Roy guaranteeing victory and getting completely embarrassed 6-0 against Detroit the next day. Imo it was a very foolish thing to do. I think there are enough cases now to see that guaranteeing victory to the media in this way hinders a lot more often then it helps.
  11. Id say it was a debacle since it probably gave the Riders incredible billboard material. Nobody should ever be guaranteeing victory in pro sports imo, as it seems to put teams behind the 8 ball. The Lions were not a confident looking bunch I must say.
  12. Whos being fickle? Fickle is jumping back and forth on an issue.
  13. I say give him another shot, so long as it is made clear to him he has to pull it together immediately. Hes been terribly underwhelming so far, and has played nothing like an undersized NHLer needs to to stick around. Its nice that he had success with the under 20 Americans, but that tournament is ridiculously overhyped as an accurate means to gauge how a player will turn out.
  14. If only he was 6 foot 2 or something.
  15. It sounds to me like you already get it. You just need to grow thicker skin. The idea of legislating a public forum in a way you would prefer is delusional.
  16. Do you mean to say these words Im typing right now... are more firmly intertwined with what happens on the ice then anything else? I hope I dont make any spelling mistakes. There is plenty of undue criticism around here in the form of trolling. Otherwise it comes in the form of genuine concern for the team and the desire for the Canucks to be successful. Pragmatism is the status quo. To illustrate, lets say the brass of a random team refuses to make a move that will probably improve their squad because it might hurt the feelings of the player involved. They obviously need to find a new line of work. I am sympathetic, but you need to see it for what it really is. There is no reason to take any of it personally, and certainly not to the utmost extreme where you scapegoat the entire fan base.
  17. Are you sure? It sounds to me like youre doing the speculating. I never assumed anything. This is nothing but concern on my behalf because I want the team to succeed. By all appearances GM and AV were not on the same page towards the end and it was a massive problem. Under Torts this same problem became unbelievably worse. I need to believe the organization will get it right this time. What I know for a fact is that Linden is very new to this and the only decision he should be in control of is who to select as GM. What I said is not an actual slight against him because its more or less true. What I also know for a fact is that its standard practice for the GM to make the decision on who should coach, because (for example) it is best that they are on the same page and have a similar philosophy; this way the GM will have less of a problem acquiring players the coach feels he needs.
  18. Does Linden know the right coach for this team from a hole in the ground? I would have figured Benning is only signing on if he has full control over who is going to be coach. Thats usually how it works anyways.
  19. Get a load of this guy. I know one player in the entire league who might agree with this, but I cant imagine anyone else does.
