I think it is ok. It's a patch. Not like they  replaced the Orca with a TD logo.  If they did that then I wouldn't be happy. I watch the game to see the players, don't care what is on the uniform or boards are whatever they call the stadium. Maybe I am numb to it since I follow other sports were it is very common. I don't  get all the fuss. But to each their own I guess.

    Agree to disagree... I concur.

Your statements are completely unmoored from the actual discussion and now you're critiquing my choice of words because you had to google it and you're upset.

Me: "That makes no business sense whatsoever"

You: "Doesn't mean you have to bend over and take it"

Who said anything about "bending over and taking it?". It's not a dichotomy. That's like me saying "Most people would not survive a polar bear attack" and you responding with "Yeah well that doesn't mean you have to chop yourself up into little pieces of meat and feed yourself to one!" Who said anything of the sort?

I'm talking about you paralelling your love for other european based sports that have used advertising in jerseys etc for some time... And you're used to it... "Nothing to see here... Its fine.  It's normal, it's the real world... Get over it.Sheep Eating GIF

The business case would be to pay to keep the jerseys intact, and then bombard with advertising elsewhere stating that fact.  "The integrity of our jerseys is brought to you by TD" is a pretty powerful message.  So is choosing to contribute towards desecrating an NHL uniform.  One move will gain my business; the other will result in doing everything in my power to prevent me giving a dime.  Bottom line is TD should be ashamed of themselves for what they've done to the franchise and their fans with these abominations.

I would go out if my way to support thus team financially just to support bucking the trend.  If TD advertised as you suggested, I go open an account to support their directive... But now my statement of dissatisfaction will be made by not spending money on the team and not having an account with TD.  That's something anyway... This sucks!

There's a business case to not pissing people off by sticking your logo on the jersey, absolutely. There is zero business case however for paying for the advertisement spot and not getting it. None whatsoever. Your hypothetical "good will" it would generate is a pipe dream. Some TD rep coming up to me and handing me season tickets at the expense of the bank would generate "good will" from me, but that's not how business works.

It would certainly make a statement and might actually gain business, as opposed to alienating fans by contributing towards these abominations.  Our only recourse as fans is to hit these parasites in the wallet where it hurts them.

    Exactly

So, you are saying the EPL, the biggest soccer league in the world is not major league? ok whatever.  Almost all major sporting leagues around the world have ads on their jeresys. From rugby to nascar to aussie rules to every major soccer league in Europe. As for me, yes I think it is ok. It is nothing new or different from any other sporting team or league I follow.

I specifed in my post... The North American big four major league teams  Not talking European anything.  Part of why I've loved our north America sports and what set them apart from the rest of the world corporate sell outs has been the purity in our sports not choosing corporate direct influence... At least in one place, the final place... The jersey.  Isn't it enough, with commercials, stadium names, board advertising, advertising in stands, concession advertising etc?...  No it has to be the jerseys too!!  Well that's over.  You don't seem to mind.  Sad to me... Then you just shrug our shoulders and go on well.  Just because you're 'used to it' means that's okay.

As long as it stays as a patch I don't care. The CFL, MLS, EPL and other Euro hockey leagues have had patches on the jersey for years. Hell, the EPL the main logo is their corporate sponsor and not the team logo.

So what!!!  That makes it okay?!  Lesser leagues... This is supposed to be a major League team.  NFL, MLB, NBA... And NHL?  Not anymore...

NHL jersey advertisements - Everything you need to know before the 2022-23 season begins (espn.com)

Can fans buy NHL jerseys without ads on them?

Absolutely. The authentic Adidas jerseys that are sold online will not have sponsor patches on them. However, the ones at the official NHL team brick-and-mortar stores could have ad patches on them.

Initially, the NHL's policy was that teams should apply a sponsor patch at arena stores only if fans request it -- otherwise, they'll have the chance to buy an authentic jersey without the patch. But fans started seeing authentic jerseys being sold with ad patches at preseason games. The NHL later clarified that "it is up to the discretion of the Club regarding if they choose to offer authentic jerseys with sponsor patches only, or to offer both options (authentic jerseys with a patch and authentic jerseys without a patch)."

Any jersey purchased from the NHL's online store, operated by Fanatics, will not have an ad patch on them. That includes the "Breakaway" fan replica jerseys, according to Fanatics.

Wachtel said this setup could change in the future. As of now, the only way fans can get the patch is at the physical team stores.

Thanks for that EP.l. What this tells me is, "for now we'll give you an option... But in the not to distant future, if you want an 'authentic' club jersey, it comes with the patch.... If you don't like that, then buy a knock off."

there's different advertising on the helmet.

Yah I realize that.  Just meant to leave it on the helmet alone... I knew this was coming... Just sad to see it now a reality.  Sad day is all.  Enjoyed the good old days were we could escape corporate marketing being shoved down our throats... Slowly but surely they find ways to make us notice no matter where we look.  Anyway... Apathy setting in if I choose to remain a spectator.

Lol!  First World problems I guess.

They have a new logo ad on the helmet.  So, they actually have two sponsors now with TD moving to the jersey.  Also, I heard that all of the jerseys for sale to the public including the authentic jerseys will NOT have the TD logo on them...

Well... Hopefully that's the case.  Wait and see.  Would appreciate confirmation on this.

  11. 3 minutes ago, Elias Pettersson said:

So they moved the TD logo from the helmet to the jersey.  At least the green matches perfectly with the green stripes.  Could be worse...

They should have left the advertising on the helmet.  As fans... Now we purchase a jersey with advertising.  We don't purchase helmets... Catch my drift.  So yah, I can buy a jersey and remove the advertising I suppose... But its the principal of it.  Not a fan... And now less of my money will go towards NHL and this team.

  12. Unfortunately I'm both a Seahawks fan and canuck fan... Nucks being my first love.... So when the Hawks traded or waved the remaining legion of boom... I knew there would be a rebuild at some point but it was obvious that the team was and had been on the decline for a few years.  Not a bad team but slowly sinking.  That is depressing to watch your team deteriorate in front of your eyes.  So I was at least happy seeing and focusing on this young and talented canuck team on the rise... Even if they took a while to be contenders, at least they're fun to watch and there's optimism.  Where as the Hawks were going to take years to turn it around.... Right?!

Here we are today.... The nucks look like something is really wrong with the core or something and may already be imploding... And the Hawks already have begun their rebuild with really exciting players and are getting better every week.  With no pressure to win but are... And just getting better by the week.   Had an epic draft this year!! Renewing sense of optimism.

Guess what team I'm focusing on this year.

Moral of the story.... Should have blown it up years ago and drafted well.  So frustrated.Frustrated Will Ferrell GIF
