I would almost have JT Miller on that list for Vancouver. He ha been extremely valuable to this team.

    3. NewbieCanuckFan

My vote for the Hart Trophy would going to several people:

StealthNuck, AJ, Vintage Canuck, b3, debluvscanucks, diesel_3, Monty, Roger Neilsons Towel, Templeton Peck.

(yes, this is what you call the supreme sucking up to authority post :P).

      No Carter HART :P...

  3. Turns out Binnington thinks he should've won the Calder and is still salty about it.

should have won nobel prize in literature too (for fiction)

    3. 112

the nobel for literature is already a funny enough joke

    4. shiznak

Canucks fans gets salty about Boeser not winning the Calder because he didn’t play a full season but never give credit to Barzal.

Statistically, Binnington had a way better second half than Pettersson. 10th in Hart voting, and 5th in Vezina voting. Of course, he should think he should have won the Calder.

  4. I'm so pumped to see Baer back with the team. Hoping he plays his way back on to the team.

    1. Alflives

Hope Bear fills the net tonight with a hatty!!!  Glad he didn't get plunked off waivers.  That was good fortune for us.

  5. Pettersson is 6th in points-per-game in the NHL. Miller and Boeser are both tied for 15th. Pretty cool to have so many bonafide top end guys right now.

oooh! oooh! what's the team's goal differential?

    3. Rubik

Yeah, and I know this is still extremely early, but it's difficult for me not to be excited:

      best goal differential: +17

      2nd best faceoffwin%

      5th in pp

      4th in pk

      4th lowest GA/G

      4th highest GF/G

and quinn is tied for rookie scoring lead. everybody is doing good. a real team mentality.

  6. I had a dream last night that the Canucks had a too many men penalty and for some reason we had Daniel Sedin taking the penalty in the box for us. He was laughing about it in the box for some reason.

  10. That feel when work is super slow and you really want to figure out some excuse to take the day off because you know it won't matter.

That's one thing I love about my job.  I can tell my boss that I am just not into working today and take the afternoon off to go golfing or watch a movie or whatever.  She knows that in the long run this kind of approach leads to better productivity than keeping us chained to a desk or forcing us to lie and come up with lame excuses.

Driving home from the giants game, we saw three flashes in under 45 seconds. Wasn't able to see anything more, unfortunately.

It was absolutely gorgeous last night. Stood outside for about 20 minutes in the rain taking videos. It was pretty breathtaking at times!

    4. Rounoush

Saw it too. Was a beautiful thing for sure.

  12. Great vid by Shannon (TheHockeyGuy) on the human side of hockey:

    1. gerry35

Saw that yesterday and it was pretty good. Always was a Ryan Walter fan and think he is at the top when it comes to character hockey players or men for that matter.

    2. stawns

Depends on what you consider a "great guy".  i know and have known a lot of NHL players, coaches and management/scouts over the years, and though many have been good people, there are a lot more that are total db's.  I've been around Ryan Walter a fair bit and though he might do a lot for charitable foundations etc, face to face he's a total p***k.  A complete asshat to the people around him.......that said, that's just my experience.

  13. Interesting stats with AJ Time: In 2009-10, Daniel Sedin had 56 assists in 63 games. In 82 games, this would be on pace for 73 assists. The current NHL record for assists by a LW in a season goes to Lemiuex, who played LW in 1996-97 and had 72 assists, so if Daniel had played an entire season at that projected rate, he might've broken an NHL record.

If you don't want to count Lemiuex, the guy below him is Bob MacMillan of the Atlanta Flames and his 71 assists in 1978-79.

Trudeau is a natural left winger....oops, I thought this was the politics thread.:P

    3. -AJ-

@Baer. Hockey-Reference keeps track of positional changes throughout the years. That was my source and was also how I knew Linden wasn't a centre in his rookie season (I wasn't around back then). It's the only source for stats I've found that will show position changes throughout the years (NHL.com will just use one position for a player's entire career, like most sites).

    4. NewbieCanuckFan

Linden actually wasn’t a center at all prior to when he was drafted by the Canucks...so it’s not a surprise he was initially used as a winger with the Canucks.  It goes to show you just how good he was (and no, I’m not saying he was a generational player) to be able to make such a drastic change.  The only thing tougher is moving from center to D (or visa versa).

We were sooooo thin at center, Trev was shifted to center.

Not just a guy who led by example but had real talent.

if this happened today the security would kick everybody out. Plus we lost this game 5-2:(

Who was #38 on our team?  Play without the puck is huge.

    4. -AJ-

      @Alflives Pavol Demitra.

  15. By a complete fluke, the Canucks in my NHL19 season have both Myers and Ferland on the team in 2023-24. They didn't have them on the original rosters and I haven't engineered any trades to make it happen.

Probably was against some rule, but I think most of us chose to stay there that long because we really wanted to get the inventory count done.

    3. luckylager

Inventory is the worst. I feel your pain.

Newbie, so long as the employees were paid accordingly, weren't forced to stay and were given their breaks it's fine.

Depending on your appetite for hockey. For me I wouldn't do it, it's too far from the city.

    3. AlwaysACanuckFan

There's always an appetite for hockey, speaking of which, I'm hungry for some Canucks hockey. Let's get the season started already.

I was going to go to the game in Victoria but it's the same night as the first game of my own team's season.

  19. @SabreFan1 I was looking at some possession stats today and noticed that Johan Larsson seems to have some incredible defensive stats. Is he an undiscovered gem or are the stats lying?

    1. SabreFan1

If a team needs a solid gritty defensive minded forward, he's a good value.  If a team needs offensive output from it's bottom 6, he's most assuredly not the guy to count on for that.

    2. -AJ-

The Brendan Gaunce of Buffalo, perhaps?

    3. SabreFan1

      Pretty much the Swedish Gaunce.

  20. Having one of those moments where I really miss the playoffs again. Dang, I hope we get back soon. Watching old videos brings back bits of the emotions I felt back in those days. I miss the thrill.

@AlwaysACanuckFan Oddly enough, I had trouble finding a simple clip of it on YouTube with Shorty's call.

  23. Wakng up at noon gives an odd feeling to FA day. Get all the news at once. My gut reaction is a surprisingly good day.

  24. With the news that Thornton is likely to return, it's possible that he could become the 7th player in NHL history to reach the historic 1100 assist mark.

    4. RRypien37

He's already made over 100 million...playing hockey. Insane.

  25. Fun fact: the first Canuck to garner any Norris votes was Kevin McCarthy in 1980-81 when he had 16 goals and 53 points. The closest any Canuck has ever been to the Norris was Ed Jovanovski, who finished 6th in Norris voting in both 2001-02 and 2002-03.

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

I always wondered if McCarthy didn't have that freak accident before the 1982 post-season began had we any chance of beating those Islanders in the Finals?  Probably not, as that was a team full of legit HHOFers but still, tough to face that kind of opponent without your best D and Captain.

    2. Alflives

Snepts was never a top five?  Unbelievable. :frantic:
