  1. alright haters: If you ask JB and Trev if they they are putting a team together that is going to contend for the stanley cup this year the answer would undoubtedly(obviously) be a definite no.If you asked them if they are trying to tank for a draft pick or contend for a playoff spot- the clear intention is to make the playoffs. We now are starting to have a good crop of prospects coming up that will hopefully be producing in the next 3 seasons. In the meantime it is EXTREMELY important that we sign stop gap- yet still serviceable vets- like Miller (iginla?) to not only mentor our young guys on and off the ice but also to give us a chance to win and contend for the playoffs. in the development of our young guys- We cannot just tank- our prospects need to learn to win. that takes veteran leadership to show them the way. Additionally, contending in the playoff race and even playing in a few series is invaluable experience and builds team spirit and shows which guys have enough character to keep around when it is our turn to make a run. remember the years of playoff futility we had before 2011?- that was the best teacher our core group could have had and was a huge factor in the 2011 run.
  2. to people ripping this trade: at least we are moving somewhere instead of maintaining the status quo which has really gotten us nowhere since the 2011 run. That team was lost long ago when Gillis chose or was forced to let go of too many guys that were an integral part of that teams success. The next inevitable step is to trade kesler, that trade could potentially define the next 7-10 seasons for us if done correctly. Sad to see guys like lu and kes (and maybe more) go but it has to happen.
